Fans need to realise that running a football club is no longer a sport, but is now a very big business and when big businesses are doing negotiations they don't air it in the public domain.

Neither when negotiating do they put all their cards on the table. Negotiating is an art and where tens of millions of pounds are involved then have to tread very carefully plus dotting the i and crossing the t.

My only concern is whoever they want, decides he's fed up waiting and decides to look elsewhere, which means back to square one again.

We should all be more relaxed and akin to the Vatican replacing the Pope. The badge on the stadium should remain unlit until the manager is decided. Then it’s just waiting until the lights come on, hopefully announcing quite a signing.

2.) 15 Jun 2021 18:11:24
Well some of the managers mentioned are older than the Pope’s so why not 😂.

13 Jun 2021 16:59:14
I hope the new manager will give the young players an opportunity.

We have Bellingham and Foden playing for England now, with Foden being around for a couple of years and only 21 years of age.

Previous managers introduced Joe Royce and Wayne Rooney, so let's introduce another 16/ 17 year old with a view to staying with the club and not sent out on loan.
The old story if you are good enough you are old enough comes to mind,

1.) 13 Jun 2021 18:54:12
None of them are good enough clearly. We’ve had zero standout youths since Barkley (who ended up being okay at best) . The likes of George Green and Kieran Dowell were very highly rated but didn’t achieve what was hoped.

Who is our highest rated academy player? Probably Thierry Small, but he’s behind Lucas Digne, he won’t be getting in our team anytime soon, if he stays that is.

2.) 13 Jun 2021 19:36:12
But didn't we get Marcel brands in to structure the club into a position were the youth system would, eventually, provide first team players? I thought the whole idea of getting him in was to create a self sufficient club. Am I wrong?

It is assumed the board are very deliberate in their selection of a new manager who they expect to be here for many years, it's also assumed they were deliberate on the previous managers they appointed over the past few years.
Obviously they got it wrong with Martinez, Koeman, Silva and Ancelloti, how can we be sure they will get it right this time.

Isn't it time they asked the supporters who they want as no doubt most of them are more knowledgable than the board on football.

1.) 08 Jun 2021 19:27:00
We can’t be sure. My assumption would be that Moshiri didn’t become a billionaire by not learning from his mistakes. Keeping positive.

{Ed025's Note - this game is all new to him though JB and he has made mistakes by taking advice from people who were unqualified to do so in the past, lets hope he gets it right this time mate and whoever he appoints that the fans give him a fair chance..

2.) 08 Jun 2021 19:11:37
That’s the problem, no one knows who the fans want. A large amount want the likes of Rafa, Gallardo, Santo etc. Then a smaller but still good sized amount want Ferguson, Howe and Potter. Then there’s quite a few who want Unsworth, Moyes, G. Neville etc. We are all over the place.

3.) 08 Jun 2021 20:33:21
You missed the tea lady Swan. We might as well let her have a go. All the others have failed :-)

4.) 08 Jun 2021 20:39:02
Very true, swan, whoever is appointed will cause a stir and split the fans!
Ed025, has that agent that brought Tevez and Macherino to England got any influence over Moshiri? Can't remember his full name but think his first is Kia or something similar.

{Ed025's Note - you mean joorabchien BP....not as far as i am aware mate..

5.) 08 Jun 2021 21:09:31
Who the heck wants G. Neville?

6.) 08 Jun 2021 23:08:21
His sister’s better qualified.

7.) 09 Jun 2021 10:31:07
That's the one, ed25. Haven't heard his name for years but I read an article, possibly in the echo online (I know, I know! ) that said he was advising FM in some capacity. Was wondering if FM was now taking advice off another 3rd party.

{Ed025's Note - he will be taking advice BP but who is flavour of the month i dont know, apparently he has changed tack and is getting better advice these days but only time will tell mate..

Just to distract from the clubs current situation,
I have just watched. Everton: Howard's. Way.
I'm 80 next birthday and started watching from Jonny Carey's time as manager. Good viewing for everyone.

I found it on the Sky Q, catch up, sky documentaries for anyone interested.

Show it to the players and they will soon find out what it's all about being with Everton.

Most of this current lot would ignore it mate.

I read a clip somewhere this morning but can't remember where, that Ancelloti has come out and said Everton's ambitions were to get into Europe and not to win the Champions league. Don't know how true.

If correct I wouldn't pay a manager £11m just to get us into Europe, I would want champions league. Perhaps the salary needs to match the expectations and not the person. I know it costs money to get the right person

We all have different opinions who we would like to see as next manager and so will the board members. The likes of Conte I feel would be like another Ancelloti in that if a so called bigger club came along next year, then he would be off. So to realise the bigger the name, then the bigger the risk of them moving on.
Would Rafa apologise for referring to Everton as a small club?
I could put a tick and a cross against all the names mentioned for various reasons so shows how difficult it is to get it right.
Not all Evertonians will agree who they want, not all Evertonians will agree on who is appointed.
I would like to see Tim Cahill back on the scene in some capacity as he knows what it means.
Mr Moshiri needs to look his expected new manager in the eye and say to himself, " will you still be here next year, the year after, or the year after that", and if he can't say yes to that then he doesn't give him the job.

Eddie Howe supposedly left Burnley because he was homesick. Everton is not too many miles from Burnley so no doubts he will have the same problem, still a long way from Bournemouth.

Agree with you there Pauly that Ancelloti had no intentions of staying. I had the same thought when they appointed Keoman. The board need to take a long hard look at the person they appoint this time.
The board need to clarify their requirements with the new manager and say whether they want:-
To get into the top 6
To get into the top 4
To get into the euro league and win
To win the Premiership and success in Champions league.
To get be able to build a team from the better players we already have. Otherwise more hundreds of millions will be wasted. Over recent years since Moyes left it’s been stop go, stop go and as far as I’m concerned no progress has been made on the field since Moyes left despite more money being available and spent.

Can’t disagree with any of that swan.
Disappointed with Holgate, because when he first arrived I saw him as another John Stones in that makes the odd mistake but full of promise.
Not sure we have enough up front in Calvert Lewin and Richarlison, both too easily knocked off the ball. Either something better or more goals from elsewhere needed.
