Interesting comment on AS Roma regarding Freidkins' control

Investment Style

The owners focus on long-term growth instead of quick fixes.

They put large amounts of money into the squad and facilities.

They try to fix old financial damage and lower bad wage bills.

The group also expanded its sports portfolio by agreeing to buy Everton, but stated that AS Roma remains central to their football goals.

So we are not important, really.

Agree2 Disagree0

07 Sep 2026 15:49:08
Yeah, I put millions and millions of pounds into things that aren't really important as well. ?

07 Sep 2026 16:35:35
Because Roma came first. But I am impressed by NickB57's ability or anyone to gain such knowledge as Gospel.

07 Sep 2026 16:24:24
Negative Reg as usual.

07 Sep 2026 17:35:26
Roma spent over 124 million euros in summer. We spent just over 90 million euros. Roma have a 25-man squad. We have 19. Roma have 25/27 players out on loan, more than we have in our squad. Does it seem to suggest anything? Freidkins now looking to take investment in Everton, or, as some have said, sell us.

Seems to me we would be better off without them. Where would any revenue go if they did take in investment? Makes me wonder if they were only ever after the new ground.

07 Sep 2026 18:55:09
Separate clubs, with separate balance sheets, working under different financial restrictions (I assume the Italian financial rules differ to the Premier League rules anyway) .

One has been a regular in European competition and the other has been struggling against relegation.

The fact that both are owned by the same company/family is largely irrelevant.

07 Sep 2026 18:57:46
If you take some of the anger and emotions away and look at it logically.

They took over Roma 6 years ago after they were struggling financially and were in a real mess.

They are now back as a force again and as you said have a good size squad, plenty more out on loan and a more sustainable operation with little debt.

Now look at us.

Not been our owners for 2 years yet, the debt now manageable, the wage bill reduced, with players like Dacoure who was on 110k a week, and a squad improving in quality, all be it still needing more players. We were selling our best player every window and not getting any real quality in, but now with players like KDH, Rohl, George, Jack, Hayden and others, we are light years away from the 3 years before they came.

We spent 117m last summer, we've spent money this summer, but our problem really came from not selling players for two years and therefore we were waiting for someone to go so we could go back in the market.

They make mistakes like all clubs. They corrected the Armstrong one. Hopefully next summer they correct the lack of some players on some positions.

After saving us from extinction, I'll give them a bit of slack for now.

{Ed025's Note - good post that John..

07 Sep 2026 19:01:30
They did invest because of the new Ground that was the only attraction for anyone. Moshiri only received an initial £25 mill. Friedkins took on the debt. Couple of years, and the Stadium will start producing big sums.

07 Sep 2026 20:34:27
I don't think TFG are awful; they just appointed Kinnear, which I feel is a mistake.

07 Sep 2026 21:19:31
Great perspective, give BJU.

07 Sep 2026 22:05:21
Look at your original post, Nick, and then look at my response and tell me who is being negative hahaha unbelievable.

07 Sep 2026 22:08:50
As much as the end of this transfer window and the end of last season annoyed everyone. In the cold light of day we are miles away from where we were under the last 3 years of Moshiri's reign.

The stress levels of constantly worrying about point deductions, staying up, and even keeping the lights on have subsided for me.

Yes, it's Everton, and we all know we should have our own rollercoaster Alton Towers, but for at least a year now, I've been able to watch the game without that horrible knot in my stomach.

Things are looking up, but it's just slow progress. I do think we'll get there, you know!

Up The F****** Toffees!

08 Sep 2026 07:51:43
If they have that many players out on loan, how come we didn't pick a couple of them up?

07 Sep 2026 07:39:43
Think the changes made all the difference. Hackney is definitely Premiership ready, lad made a huge difference when he came on. Good result but could and should have been better.

Agree4 Disagree0

07 Sep 2026 08:53:16
Some better ball play from Barry, I thought, mate, but he has to put that header away. We are going to be okay.

07 Sep 2026 09:29:13
Hackney looks like a great signing, came on and ran the game, partnered well with Jack and KDH. George was mustard, can beat a man both sides, really exciting. Barry, well Barry was Barry, needs to get that header on target, but you can see his movement is getting better and he's getting into scoring positions.

07 Sep 2026 09:30:58
Two poor goals given away, but that is going to happen, given our limitations in defence. Two cracking goals, and the team should gain a lot of confidence from this result.

My only concern, as I said, is with our defence. We have to tighten that up if we want to continue to improve. Hopefully we see a much better showing against Spurs than last season's effort.

07 Sep 2026 09:44:24
I think whilst there are definitely issues at FB defensively, and that was the main cause of the goals conceded yesterday - we also don't have quite the protection from midfield in front of them. Garner is definitely not 100% for sure.

However, I think the reverse of that is that overall we look miles better in midfield with the current set up, and I think I'd take that and put up with conceding a few more just to watch some better football.

07 Sep 2026 11:14:47
I would much rather just win 1-0 every week no matter how it comes. I certainly do not hold with the concede a few more just to watch better football mantra.

07 Sep 2026 16:57:34
I'm the opposite, dms. I like to see us playing attractive football and will accept if we are beaten by a better team. It still spoils my weekend, and of course I'd take a fluke 1-0 win when we have been battered and just got lucky, but I'd prefer a great team performance and good football any day of the week.

07 Sep 2026 19:10:38
Each to their own, but I cannot accept that. Oh, we got beat but we played attractive football. I played to win and didn't like it when we lost, but accepted because I knew we tried our best.

08 Sep 2026 08:19:20
At the match on Sunday we were all having a chat about Barry. He is getting better and his hold up play is getting there. However, the service to him in the box is very poor.

There was a tactical change by Moyes, though, with him on Sunday as the games in preseason and the league and cup, he was allowed to come across to the wings with Ili moving inside and swapping with him.

With Ili gone, Barry hasn't got the same player on the wing to do that with, although I think Dibbling would be a good player to help with that.

He looks really comfortable moving to the center and swapping with him. Although I feel Barry is happier coming across to the left rather than the right. He did do it a bit with Johnson on Sunday, but the one time he did, he played one of the weirdest crosses ever that went straight up in the air.

Barry, though, can only score with the right service. On Sunday he had that one header.

07 Sep 2026 00:55:52
Thought Pickford could have done better for their goals today but the amount of times he has saved us, we can let him off.

Tarkowski is finished. Another goal where he doesn't even look to see the danger around him and just has his eyes glued to the ball out on the flank. Another occasion like the Palace game where he cannot shift his feet and gets caught underneath it. Criminal allowing Sesko a free header there.

JB was brilliant.

Mykolenko showing that he is that great defender again, showing Mbeumo inside on his stronger left foot and giving him all the room he needed to get a shot off. Their 2nd goal, we saw an old and laboured Luke Shaw busting his bo**ocks to provide an an overlap for Fernandes. Mykolenko is much fitter and much younger and never offers that. That isn't an ability issue, that is a footballing IQ issue - the lad is literally stealing a wage and I can't believe he is still our LB.

Rohl always full of endeavour but his positioning is just not there to be RB. Had a torrid time today with Rashford.

Jimmy still not fit.

Armstrong continues to play beyond his years.

KDH, I said it last year, he gets goals and is effective but he is a very average footballer, was absolutely shocking today for me. He seems to be one of the only players who is guaranteed his spot and 90 mins, no matter how he is playing.

Barry Chuckle, absolutely criminal to miss that header. Another shocking miss.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Sep 2026 07:18:02
We so could have won yesterday if Barry had had scored, but a point hard earned. Well done the lads.

07 Sep 2026 07:29:31
Said it before, we should be giving Dibling opportunities off the bench to step in for KDH, who struggles to see out the 90 mins.

07 Sep 2026 08:38:55
Dibbling needs a lot of minutes, and soon, or he will lose any confidence gained in preseason.

07 Sep 2026 08:55:27
KDH does tire, some do, no matter the nutrition or fitness programme. Didn't look 100 percent to me.

07 Sep 2026 10:19:24
Good summary that BN, yeh, at this rate it can only be a matter of time before O Brien comes in at CB, captain or not, Tarks is declining rapidly, also how many long balls did he play that ran straight through to their keeper. I want Hackney starting, he totally ran it when he came on and looks so assured. Myko, what's not been said over and over again.

Mbemo was painting the touch line when he received the ball and Myko just let him go, you have to take him down the outside, there that is schoolboy stuff.

Jack, AMN, and Hackney starters for me next game.

As many have said, would like to see Dibling come on in the 10 after 65/70 mins when KDH is running on empty.

07 Sep 2026 13:50:04
I was wrong on AMN, I thought he didn't play that many games so thought Rohl would start ahead of him. In fact, he was a regular in the Olympique Lyonnaise team. Strange that Moyes said they didn't know what to expect.

07 Sep 2026 14:28:08
AMN and everyone else didn't expect what happened at the end of the match. Like Rohl, but he was out of his depth yesterday. Moyes is going to need to try to find how to get us through till Jan, and that means being more flexible than he prefers.

AMN should get a go at RB starter. He also needs to find some alternatives to Barry. Maybe George, maybe Graham, maybe false 9, but something.

07 Sep 2026 16:39:16
Maybe he will get a go at RB. Moyes has already said with such a small squad everyone will have to muck in.

07 Sep 2026 20:40:25
I know we don't see a lot of the lad, but he just doesn't do enough for me, and I think, quite honestly, Moyes and his staff were surprised. Well, we are in a position now where he is going to have to produce.

{Ed025's Note - for me dibbling got decent minutes pre -season but hardly pulled up any trees, i know he is only young but if Moyes does not think he is ready then im afraid we will have to trust his judgement, this might sound harsh but we paid £40m for him and for that kind of fee we should not have to potty train him..

06 Sep 2026 23:53:46
Interesting that Freidkins rarely been to Goodison or Hill Dickinson, yet are regularly at AS Roma who are top of Serie A.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 Sep 2026 07:31:10
It's a lot warmer in Rome. But, you're right, it would be nice to see them attend the odd game at least.

07 Sep 2026 08:31:44
They own the club. Their presence at every home game should be almost automatic. To rely on feedback from the CEO is no way to run a football club.
The people appointed are not doing their job, but they are not going to report back on their own failure, something that would be quite obvious if they were to attend games.

07 Sep 2026 08:58:00
Moshiri is there most home games.

07 Sep 2026 10:45:52
In body if not in mind, eh dms.

07 Sep 2026 11:16:28
The guy turns up kudos.

08 Sep 2026 07:15:53
To rely on your CEO is exactly how you run a business. That's what he's there for.

Owners of any successful businesses tend to have the right people running them. Musk is not at Tesla and X every day, and has probably been to the head office of either of them once in all the time he's owned them.

Our owners enjoy Rome and go to the game. Them sitting there for a couple of hours with us doesn't make us world beaters. However, a "good" CEO will do.

We need to stop being obsessed with the owners not attending matches, it makes no difference whatsoever.

06 Sep 2026 22:01:00
Well George showed he could play on the right, so keep him there and leave Grealish on the left. Think it would be worth using Dibling as cover for KDH as it's the lads natural position.
Decent result today, but both goals could have been avoided. Nice to see the team work the full 90+ again.

{Ed025's Note - i thought Pickers could have done better for their 2 goals myself BMD, he has set the bar very high and we expect him to be brilliant every game, but for me at his best he stops both of them mate..

Agree5 Disagree2

06 Sep 2026 23:25:20
Agree Ed, but the marking for there second was poor mate. Interesting that had Grealish not come on then George wouldn't have found himself on the right, and if Garner hadn't got cramp we might not have seen AMN. Still about time something went right for us.

06 Sep 2026 23:39:45
I've thought for some time ed that Pickford has let goals in that previously he would have swallowed up. Maybe a trip to Specsavers is needed or his agility is starting to fail. Thought our goals today were stunning.

06 Sep 2026 23:31:52
You might be right Ed025 mate, but for me they should have been stopped before they got to him. Mykolenko and Tarks both at fault, I wish that he would try O'Brien but he will not and I believe Maitland-Niles has played at left-back.

I know we got a point but you can't let in two goals and always get a point or win, two fantastic strikes did it this time. We need to strengthen the defense somehow.

07 Sep 2026 09:01:37
They know George can play on the right, he can apparently play striker as well. Have to say he does look effective from the right. Grealish needs a couple of games yet so let's see who starts against Spuds.

06 Sep 2026 20:59:00
We grabbed a draw in spite of Moyes, not because of him. He was watching Garner stretching every 5 mins but still decided to put him right back before our only right back at the club. And 3 mins later Garner goes down so he was forced into it.

If Jimmy stayed fit all game there is no way in this world AMN was on the pitch to score that equaliser.
Hackney should have started as clearly Jimmy isn’t match fit.
Moyes out!

Agree6 Disagree0

06 Sep 2026 21:18:11
Being a good manager means having a crystal ball? Team showed great spirit, that's on the manager too, no?

06 Sep 2026 21:40:41
No crystal ball needed, you could see Jimmy wasn't right, but he left him on, is my point.
The man's a joke.
Moyes out.

06 Sep 2026 21:55:36
All of those decisions have to be balanced with trying to get a result, too. The medical team advise on whether or not players are fit to continue or not.

06 Sep 2026 21:55:44
Who do you support, Fjefc13?

{Ed025's Note - i think FJEFC might give you a clue DMS, you might not agree with him mate but that does not mean he os not a supporter..

06 Sep 2026 22:03:00
Unbeaten, two late comebacks in two consecutive fixtures, every player fighting for the manager, and you want him out? Wow.

{Ed025's Note - this is not the time to be changing managers imo Swinners..

07 Sep 2026 06:16:51
You are right, Swinners. Some just can't wait to have a pop, it is as if they are waiting for us to lose.

07 Sep 2026 06:19:14
With the depth issues we have in the squad, sacking Moyes now would be like committing hari-kari!

JP was at fault for the goals and some of the defending led to the attempts on goal.

Moyes may well need to have a think about some things (like bringing O'Brien in for Tarks) , but looking to change the manager now would not improve our overall outlook.

Also, would you trust this CEO to get the right man for the job?!

07 Sep 2026 07:36:42
JP wasn't at fault for the goals. It was the bloody awful defending that did that. Have another look, Micky, lets the player inside, then can't keep up with him. Tarkowski sees their striker and still leaves him to have a free header.

07 Sep 2026 09:03:54
Just have a feeling about him ED by his/her comments.

{Ed025's Note - if i thought he was DMS he would not be on here mate, i just think he is frustrated mate..

07 Sep 2026 14:30:47
Season ticket holder dms, and only want the best for the club. Im afraid Moyes isn't the best, so that's why I want him out regardless of results. Just my opinion, but his in game tactics/management is pathetic.

07 Sep 2026 20:42:04
Then I apologise, mate.

07 Sep 2026 22:58:17
No problem mate UTFT.
Just because I don't like the manager doesn't make me not a fan, I don't like my wife but I'm still married to her hahah.

06 Sep 2026 19:58:25
4 unbeaten at the start of the season, we'd all taken that.

This is our best Central Midfield for a long time. They are all very very good players.
Garner
Armstrong
Dewsbury-Hall
Hackney
Rohl
Norgaard

I'll tag in
Dibbling Alcaraz and Grealish.

06 Sep 2026 19:25:18
Hackney looks a player.

06 Sep 2026 20:51:38
Yes dude, we've got some talent in that midfield. Hackney looks like the player we hoped he was. Very good player.
Love seeing Grealish out there, want to see more Dibbling, can't afford to kill his confidence with such a small squad.

06 Sep 2026 20:42:51
The lad is very good. Needs settling in! Moyes can roll his gonads in nettles.

06 Sep 2026 21:00:23
Moyes is a joke. He will stick with the same 11 and burn them all out by December because his reluctance to change it is an absolute disgrace.

06 Sep 2026 21:57:05
We haven't seen Norgaard.

06 Sep 2026 17:09:25
Every time I see Steffi Borson linked to an opinion on Everton I just think p****.
