For years we’ve been complaining about buying the finished article with no sell on value, Allan, Doucoure, Bolasie etc

Fans complaining that we need to be like Brighton and buy good talents young that will develop and we can eventually sell them on for profit or they stay in the first team

We do that with Aznou, Dibling and Barry

Now people are moaning that we didn’t buy the finished product instead?

Seen calls for Mateta, I like him, keep in mind that up until last season, he was genuinely terrible and Palace fans wanted him out. If we had him, I have no doubt our fans would hate him. But would he come here? Regular European football at Palace, a team on the rise, why leave them for us? . If we signed him, people would then moan and to “why aren’t we trying to sign the NEXT Mateta instead? ”

Our recruitment over the last decade hasn’t been good, but I do think sometimes we can’t actually win.

Well they haven’t been bought for now. The idea is to develop them over 2-3 seasons and they either remain starters, sell for profit or we take a small loss.

People act like someone like Baleba was brought in this summer and is immediately being touted around for £100m. He’s been there nearly 3 years.

Things take time, for years we wanted our club run like a professional club with an idea and not just spouting money on everyone.

We’ve finally done that and people are mad we didn’t buy a bunch of 29 year olds for £50m.

{Ed025's Note - all as im saying is that its a gamble Swan, if they cost £10-15m then fair enough, but paying £40m for a possible is cavalier to say the least mate..

I’m not a fan of Mateta anymore swan. Misses big chances and our fan base would turn on him like DCL.

It’s alright buying youth to sell on but you should be spending £20m or less. Like Ed says, we’ve been buying prospects for near £30m or more. Unless they set the world on fire, yep - it’s worth it. I have saints fans who genuinely can’t believe we paid so much for him. They compared Dibling to Walcott, Ward-Prowse, Lallana and Bale and said they were all doing things noticeable at his age whereas Dibling has done very little.

I agree with this in the main. But I don’t think any fan would complain we aren’t better run now than previous- although the bar was set pretty low. I think that most fans would’ve liked present and future cover up front and at full back positions. It hasn’t happened to the quality that we’d have liked and patience is a big ask of fans.

Window opens soon so let’s see if we can improve in those areas for the immediate being as said cover is there for the future… we hope!

My problem is Moyes sees Old Trafford like it was under SAF. He still has the knife to a gunfight mentality, so he’ll probably be made up with a draw and when we inevitably lose 2-0, he’ll say “it’s a tough place to go, look at the history here”.

Personally I thought he got bullied by there C/B, and it showed that if he played as a loan striker for us not a lot would change.

I'm not so. sure it proves anything in all honesty, bmd. He's scored goals at every club he's been at, specifically in this league, whereas the two we have are struggling to get 2 goals between them. Beto is a lost cause, granted, but Barry could come good or at least has time on his side.

Richarlison is better than both without a shadow of a doubt. A loan deal would be the preference if we are going to make a move for him.

Maybe so, swan, but you can't tell me that he isn't an improvement on our front two even if he isn't the same player that we had a few years back. Forwards will always miss chances, some easy and some not so much, but they will also find the net in games.

Ours have one premier league goal between them and that is simply not good. enough.

It was over a year ago that we were trying to sign him and he's still at Leeds. I wouldn't judge him on the last game, especially with him coming back from injury with a fleeting cameo, but the fact that no other team has picked him up.

during that time speaks volumes. We've moved on from him as a target, he wouldn't displace JG or IN anyway.

Ed, and others, what's your thoughts on the changes to psr?

I see they have stopped allowing clubs to buy off themselves (well at least we got away with it with the women's club) . Hope they've sorted some of the clear work around though. Basing on revenue- clubs could buy a player for 100m and sell for 90. The 10m loss isn't relevant if the owners are ok. But that adds 90m revenue.

When I hear who we are linked with these days, I worry if we’ve rejected by every decent player out there or whether our scouts are desperately incompetent. Latest I read was some left winger from Celtic… surely we don’t need a left winger who can play upfront? We need a striker.

Someone who can score goals, win us games, hold up play and bring others in.

Our scouts must think that because a player scores goals ( in a quite poor league) that they will bang them in for us playing same position. i'd prefer a proper striker like Dju.

It’s season by season rather than a 3 year rolling system. 85% of football related income can be spent on first team. 115% on one season in 3. Automatic 6 point punishment for going over 115%. Everton currently sit at 77% this season meaning we could spend 8% of seasons income on players/wages in January, more if we sell anyone.

In theory, if we stick to 85% this season, we can go to 115% next season.

Bit hard on our scouts Ed025. Presumably they identified Dibling, Aznou, Rohl and Barry. Three of them not ready and bench warmers and the one that plays should be in the same category. It's not been our strength for a long time mate, I was hoping that with the new management things would change for the better, maybe this January?
