I think that Ndyai in the middle against a strong loaded midfield was the problem, plus Gana was slightly offf his normal game so we were weak through the middle and they had 5 and O’Brien got out numbered . Alcatraz made a difference as he is more aggressive in that position. Garner going to right back also introduced a playmaker down that side and subsequently helped the attack. Beto had a point to prove and stepped up his game and gave their defenders something to do rather than clearing unchallenged crosses into the box. Good result.

Beto spent more time in the box, where he should be so kudos. We were not so much poor in the first half as rather pressured and outplayed by a very good Team that will finish top 6 if the wheels don't fall off their small squad. Barry needs feeding up and muscle building.
06 Oct 2025 21:25:36
Barry needs to learn how to jump and get in the gym and to reference an old rocky film he needs to chase chickens to get him moving quicker and reacting quicker he also needs to be aggressive and not petulant. He has the touch and football brain but he’s stuck in first gear.
08 Oct 2025 07:12:57
It's 9 outfield players with Barry on the pitch.

How many games this year have we said that we were terrible in the first half and then improved in the second half. We start off backing off the ball, playing defensively, looking as if the players have no energy and booting the ball upfield to lose the ball repeatedly. Then we come out reenergized in the second half, maybe Doris the tea-lady is spicing the tea at half-time. Yes the subs introduced at half-time today made a big difference but surely the tactics have to change, we will not be so lucky again if we continue playing like this, Let's show the urgency and passion shown at the end of todays game from the first minute from now on.

That’s very sensible Mike and I completely agree. If we continue in this vein we will be found out as our halftime play will be expected and countered.
But on the other hand we have to applaud Moyes use of Dibling and Barry to start the game on the basis of suspensions and the need to mix it up given the recent results. We shout from the rooftops when we lose and don’t change (rinse repeat) . So it’s hard to criticise when he changes things up a little. And we also need these youngsters to get valuable game time and show us why we paid so highly for them.
This one worked out and in my heart I’d say we were rewarded for the bold selection. But my head says - as you do - we got away with one there. And that 90 minutes of the last 45 would’ve seen us winning that one comfortably.
06 Oct 2025 07:22:46
It is also 11 v 11 and the way the other side doesn't 'roll over' perhaps! Watched that yesterday and not so much we were poor as Palace are very very good. Moyes made the right subs at the right time but still needed a penalty (stupid challenge) and Grealish foot stuck out. Incidentally the reason Grealish doesn't shoot looks to me like timing in the shot, looks very weak at this level.
06 Oct 2025 10:38:27
Yes agree about Palace, they are a very good and well organized side. It's just that it happens too often to be anything about the opposition but rather our tactics or the mental attitude of our players. We start off very timidly, maybe a bit worried about conceding and then we start to click in the second half. I think that the more confidence the players get playing together we will see more second half performance from the get go. OK it's just an old man's opinion, just very happy we won. Also I would like to see Alcaraz given an extended run, he gets me of my seat which can only be a good thing.
06 Oct 2025 10:44:09
For some reason we allow teams to dictate the play, exact same thing happened against Liverpool. We sit back and allow teams to come on to us, then in the second half we press. Yes we won yesterday but that was a combination of Palace’s poor finishing and us getting a little luck for once.
06 Oct 2025 00:34:10
In a couple of years, Dibling, and Barry, may turn out to be very good players. But the point is, at this time trying to develop a side to challenge for a top six place, what was needed was the finished article, and the priority with the cash spent on these two players, a right back, and a proven striker should have been persuade, it might be said that would be short term, and whilst I accept it's easy to be wise with hindsight, but you didn't have to be mistic meg to have seen the nesesity.

I hope it doesn't come true but Barry could be just like Moise Kean. Scores goals in all leagues but the Premier league. At the moment he's just a fresher Beto, when he comes on as sub. They are carbon copies of each other but tbf if it wasn't for beto throwing himself for header against palace, we wouldn't of scored. There's got to be a striker out there somewhere who can score goals for us and is available.
05 Oct 2025 21:18:05
Always been a fan of O'BRIAN, but he is not a right back, Garner looked far more comfortable there, we have options in midfield, and given Alcaez, performance in the ten role would be more than happy for him to start there.
As for a striker, getting to the point when we should look at the under 21s, some with very good numbers, in terms of goals, ok, no premium experience but could they do any worse. ?

With Alcaraz in the 10, you might see Beto get a few. He knows how to pick a pass and I’m sure he assisted him a handful of times last season.
05 Oct 2025 22:43:17
I think Garner has to play right back, for the time being, O’Brien has been found out a little and his lack of pace on the turn has been exposed. Not sure if Keane or Branthwaite will be fit for City so it may be that O’Brien plays centre half anyway.
I think Alcaraz, KDH and Gana in the middle of the park would be great. Sadly Grealish can’t play next game so it’ll be interesting to see what Moyes does.
05 Oct 2025 23:17:10
Not arguing re the quality of beto or Barry. Both a bit suspect but wonder sre they both a bit isolated playing up top. Just seen how effective were with 2 up top. Would be good to see maybe alcaraz much closer up top with either beto or Barry. Ndiaye and grealish wide with kdh in the middle?
06 Oct 2025 06:30:57
There's no one able to step up from the under 21s. Everyone's talking about Graham but he hasn't got the physicality yet to play in the EPL.
Barry and Beto are what they are and until next summer they are the two we'll need to get us the goals. I doubt very much we'll have the chance to get anyone in Jan.
06 Oct 2025 07:26:23
Barry is just at this level too weak. I bet the coaches are working on strength.
06 Oct 2025 09:32:32
I'm not sure it's his strength that's the main problem, just don't think he's good enough but happy to be proved wrong.
05 Oct 2025 17:58:27
Not sure if this is controversial but for me I would start with a midfield 3 of Garner, Alcaraz and KDH.
Gueye was at the heart of most of our issues today, slow on the ball, stray passes and not a lot of energy. Alcatraz broke up more attacks from a number 10 than Gueye did in the entire game too.

Well done to the boys today and what a great second half though DM made the right subs today so got to say well done to him also, Palace are no pushovers but God do we need a striker and if I had to nit pick just once more I think gueye needs dropping,
05 Oct 2025 19:52:05
We have had a very decent start to the season and Gana has been instrumental in that. He's currently the best in the prem at interceptions and has a 91% pass accuracy so dropping him for someone who has had half a decent game is folly.
06 Oct 2025 07:44:29
Agree Smit Gana is one player we cannot drop he’s a good player for us.
05 Oct 2025 17:07:03
I know people won't like this but I'd start Barry next game.
NOT because he deserves it, just because Beto is always amazing off the bench. He's like Trossard at Arsenal, useless when you start him, bring him on though and he turns into a world beater.
Seriously though, amazing result against a really good team, fully expected to lose that.

The lads confidence will be even lower than it is now he probably wouldn't even touch the ball against city. the lad just looks absolutely lost. felt sorry for dibling as he was no worse than any of the other players in the 1st half. but was glad charly came on and started making runs in behind so we wasn't as predictable And was full of energy which gave Jack and ndiaye more space on the wings. Bring on CITY.
05 Oct 2025 17:57:19
Was gutted for Beto not scoring that header but Charly is easily our best #10.
05 Oct 2025 19:39:06
Got to agree swan, they are both so ineffective when starting it's unreal. Beto, to be fair, made a difference when he came on, for a change he wasn't wasting passes and looked lively. That said, that header was absolutely shocking from a few yards out, he should have burst the net himself. Luckily, we got a goal from that passage of play so it worked out in the end. Thankfully!
06 Oct 2025 10:54:09
If you watch that header again he does everything right. He gets his neck muscles into the header, heads it down and but for the keeper sticking his leg out and having a bit of luck would have scored. To say it was a shocking header is nonsense.
06 Oct 2025 19:34:37
Agree Dean. When you watch the replay of that header he came from a mile off, his timing was perfect. I thought he was unfortunate not to score.
Im desperate for young Barry to show us all something but he just isn’t. There’s plenty of more time to I guess.
06 Oct 2025 19:42:00
Not at all, it was terrible and he was lucky the defender hit it against Jack and it went in or it would have been another terrible miss from a terrible player. The keeper was already on the floor!
To say he did everything right is nonsense as he didn't hit the net, from 2 or 3 yards but there will be some of you that still hang out of his backside like he's Dixie Dean incarnate!
For the record, that was probably the best beto has played in quite a while, especially this season. But if that was Barry missing that then he would be getting no benefit of the doubt from fans.
06 Oct 2025 20:17:52
To just rectify part of my above post, that should have said the keeper was almost on the floor.
05 Oct 2025 16:53:12
Few things to take from the game today. As numerous posters say on here on a weekly basis Moyse subs are awful, Beto is absolutely useless and a game is 90 minutes not 45.

Alcaraz and Beto put in a proper Sub performance today.

Alcaraz made the big difference from the first half, Dibling and Barry had a very poor first half, as for Beto he played his heart out and showed much more than Barry second half we were the better Team.

Proper tail of 2 halves GB. It's not often we come from behind and win, the clown engrained it in me that when we concede first we lose. I really enjoyed the game today.
Dibling and Barry really were not up to it. I'd love to see Alcaraz play more, I think he's been hard done by for game time considering his performances last year. He gets the best out of beto but it's hard to drop KDH. I'd really like to see them both in the team, play KDH and Alcaraz with either garner or gana holding and really go at the lower half of the table teams.
Shame about Dibling and Barry. We spent some serious money on them so I hope they come good. We could really do with them from the bench to change games like the subs did today.
UTFT.
05 Oct 2025 16:12:20
I never knew Grealish was such a s***house but he loves the physical battle.
Why did it take that dreadful first half to spring us into action I don't know.
Alcaraz was brilliant when he came on. Desire and energy aplenty.
It is time to play Beto consistently. Not because he is very good but because Barry is just that bad. At lest Beto moves and looks like he is trying for the team. Shame that header didn't go in for him but made up for Grealish.
Garner very solid again.
Got very lucky there with a penalty and a snide goal at the end but will absolutely take it. Palace should have been out of sight before we had the chance to get back into it.

They should have BN but then how many times have we said that about us this season.
05 Oct 2025 16:56:39
Never liked Beto but have to say out the two he’s better he played well today, on another note Grealish and Ndiaye were both kicked all over the pitch.
05 Oct 2025 17:03:34
Indeed BlueNose we mustn’t underestimate the efforts of Pickford, he kept Everton in the game, we could have been 3 down at half time.
Alcaraz was superb and hopefully will get a run in the side now. I agree about Beto too. Barry looks well out of his depth. Beto gives his all and actually he occupied the Palace centre halves creating space for the attacking midfielders.
05 Oct 2025 17:16:09
Was a penalty (not lucky) Grealish not a s***house and never been chicken. In the right place at the right time for our second, good header by Beto. Moyes good subs timing, excellent second half against a very good side.
05 Oct 2025 17:28:53
Yeah you are right BMD.
Great shout on Pickford Swinners. I guess we are just used to him being quality for us for quite some time now mate.
I didn't say the penalty was lucky. I said we were lucky, meaning to come away with the 3 points out of the overall balance of the game.
Grealish is a s**house. It wasn't an insult, it helps us massively, not to mention entertainment value. Headlocks, barges, winding up and gobbing off to players and referees.
05 Oct 2025 18:24:19
Different interpretation BN1878 sorry. In my 75 years a S***house has always been a master at bating, not one to be trusted, Never heard or read it to be used as a compliment.
05 Oct 2025 18:37:55
Starting to worry about your glowing reference for Dibling BN. Lad looked lost most of that first half.
05 Oct 2025 20:14:41
Agree about Pickford lads. He really kept us in the game in the first half.
05 Oct 2025 20:00:55
Looked no more lost than the entire 10 outfield players did in the first half. At least he was tracking his men and putting tackles in. If Barry had a modicum of intelligent movement, Dibling could have easily had an assist.
There wasn't one player who played well, apart from Pickford and possibly James Garner. The only reason he got taken off was because he isn't going to take Grealish and Ndiaye off. One of them.
5 minutes against Liverpool, 10 against West Ham and then a half against one of, if not the most in form teams in the league.
I am starting to worry that you would rather see him fail to have a told you so moment than see him be a success for Everton Football Club. If accurate, very weird indeed.
05 Oct 2025 21:28:48
He looked no more lost than the entire team did in the first half BR. Other than Pickford and maybe Garner, we were abysmal.
Ndiaye is one of our best performers and he passed the ball 9 times in the 1st 45 minutes, made 0 tackles and won 0 fouls. Dibling passed it 7 times but made 2 tackles and won 2 fouls. It is no secret of our preference to go down the left flank with Grealish. By no means am I saying that the above means Dibling played well but he certainly did nothing to warrant coming off above anybody else. If Barry had a modicum of movement or intelligence, he would have made the run across the 6 yard box and possibly got himself a goal and Dibling an assist, however, he just stood still on the edge of the box, even though Dibling had got the run on Mitchell and needed someone to aim for. Instead it went straight to Henderson.
5 minutes against Liverpool, 10 against West Ham and a half against arguably the most in form team in the league, that have just beat the Champions. I guess Isak is sh**e now because he hasn't scored for Liverpool other than against Saints in the League Cup ey.
I am starting to worry that you would rather see Dibling fail at Everton Football Club, just so you can have a "Told you so" moment. You have commented on him a few times now, even though the initial post doesn't mention him - it is very odd.
