9.5m for a CB, not like us to spend that on a bench player.

Im sure stones will stay and our captain won't be dropped. could this finally be the point at which Roberto uses 3 at the back? He is a know admirer and now we have 3 quality CBs in his eyes.

A quality playmaker is the vital component for me, would change our season in my opinion.

Just food for thought.

Mori can play LB too so is a good purchase.

I can't be bothered to copy and paste his surname, but the dortmund & polish winger. Jakub Blaszkowski (close) is on his way to Fiorentina I believe. so its not him.

Dortmund showed serious interest in Yarmolenko as his replacement, offering 20m Euros upfront. however I believe they have changed their target and are now looking at Janujaz.

All the players mentioned, are strongly linked with EFC, dortmund could hold the key to our signing.

I hope we get a pleasant surprise and I'm optimistic we will. just passing on what I know.

Heard that we've made a last ditch offer to Shaqiri of 70k a week. Previously we apparently offered 55k but obviously Stoke are willing to pay the wages he seeks. if the money was equal, being completely unbiased i'd struggle to believe that he would choose Stoke over us.

Unsure if this is true but either way its too little too late in my eyes, poor from our club.

Ive seen a few posters with the suggestion 'where we actually in for him?' Payet, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri. these are all quality players and begs the question if we were not. why not. The talent pool available is becoming shallower. I hope we don't end up with Victor Moses.

Can't believe we are being humiliated once again! We need a strong statement of intent as soon as possible!

2.) 10 Aug 2015 16:26:12
I've read he's a playmaker. I've read he's a winger. Which is he because we don't need a winger? And if he's tbat good is he being encouraged to leave because he's trouble?

{Ed025's Note - he can play either brian, very talented but also a bit of a prima-donna i hear mate..

3.) 10 Aug 2015 16:26:13
He has agreed personal terms with Stoke according to ssn

4.) 10 Aug 2015 16:49:25
Who actually said we where in for him except the newspapers that is but they been saying McCarthy and mirallas where of to other clubs all summer so wouldn't believe a word they printed. Shaqiri is talented player no doubt about it but if he was so good why wasn't there more clubs in for him I think we could be better of without him he could be more trouble than he is worth

{Ed025's Note - fair point duke..

5.) 10 Aug 2015 16:59:16
Too little too late, he's signed for Stoke

6.) 12 Aug 2015 15:31:15
Atteveld, we can only be humiliated if we were in for him and actually made a bid. I'm pretty confident he'd have chosen Everton over Stoke had he had the choice. He's a talented player , and I would have liked for us to get him, but, it looks as though he's not a priority in RM's eyes.

Sinisa Mihajlovic has just been sacked by AC Milan which makes him available.

Despite being sacked, this guy is a good manager who takes no crap from anyone. Gets his teams well organised, whilst playing good football.

Fantastic at Sampdoria and for me, he did well at a Milan side with very little quality. the board has unrealistic expectations for a side who have dropped enormously in the last 5 years.

I'd take him.

Im sure people run through their XI's often, but just wondering what would everyones preferred XI be for the next LEAGUE game

Robles
Coleman - Stones - Jags - Baines
Besic - Barry
Del - Barkley - Mirallas
Lukaku

I really like Mori and he hasn't done anything wrong, but I do think we are missing our captain. Galloway has been brilliant and Baines has come in too early for me, but once his fitness and sharpness is back I think he's vital to the way we play. I like Cleverly and found it hard to leave him out, just prefer Besic. think he has the potential to be one of the best in the league.
Mirallas over Kone self explanatory. always a goal threat and links with Lukaku just as well if not better than Kone in my opinion. Lennon unlucky to miss out but the 2 wingers are better than him.

PB7771

1.) 05 Jan 2016 15:11:50
on form and range of passing i'd swap cleverly with barkley.

2.) 05 Jan 2016 15:13:41
Would make 1 change and that would be to push Baines forward onto the left of midfield and Galloway at left back. I feel we need balance across the midfield and as good as Mirrallas is defensively I don't think we cam accomodate 2 wingers as it leaves us even more exposed at the back, so delboy would stay in due to his assists.

3.) 05 Jan 2016 16:24:13
That probably would be my exact team PB7771. I totally agree with every word you said. My second team would be Lennon for Barkley. I'd move Del boy to Barkley's place and put Lennon on the wing. Interesting to see how Del boy would be there. He certainly has the skill, quickness and even the link up play with Lukaku.

That's my second team but I'd go with exactly your team first to see how it would go. Then I may or may not revert to plan B. I wouldn't leave Barkley out of the team for that long in that case. I rate him and think he will have a very good career.

Something Martinez is incapable of doing, a plan B! Although I sense there will be changes to the team from now on. I'm hoping that anyway.

Bluegray87 I agree about making Baines a winger and Galloway at left back would be a good left hand side.

But I don't agree with your view on being more defensive. The 2 holding midfielder's job is to help out the back 4. So that makes 7 players (including goalkeeper) to concentrate on defence.

That should be more than enough and should allow the front 4 to concentrate mostly on attacking.

In theory that should work. However this season we are conceding alot. It's hard to imagine that when we have basically 6 defenders.

Something doesn't add up for me.

4.) 05 Jan 2016 17:56:46
I suppose it depends on you definition of a defensive mid/ holding mid for me its a player that can slot into the defense to cover when a player is out of position. Barry is the closest player we have but he tends to support too much, you don't really see him slotting into CB or LB very much when we are on the attack. The rest of the boys are more box to box players. Also its quite rare when we have the ball that all 6 are back defending both full backs play high up the pitch and if you consider how often either Stones or Mori go for a run then we are really just left with whoever hasn't bothered to join the attack. We have conceded a shed load of goals on the counter.

Where would we be in the league with a half decent manager in charge. Nice to see Kone turning in consistent performances again, consistently terrible. I think even Arouna's wife and kids where probably screaming for him to be subbed.

Was anyone else a little disappointed with the ref today? If he'd have sent Howard off, I'd have seen that as a positive result. 3 games with out flapper would of certainly been a prospect.

congrats to Rom, shame he will leave in the summer, I love that he plays for us and he will be one of the worlds best in the future. he should leave for his own good, despite having the best squad I've seen at EFC. The current manager will always ensure we underperform.

Thought Barkley was good today along with Barry. Well done to Mirallas also who showed the hesitant Kone how to take Advantage of an opportunity.

I heard Mourinho is available. Mind you at this stage I think Brendan Rodgers would do a better job than this clown currently in the dugout.

PB7771

1.) 19 Dec 2015 17:30:45
With a half decent manager in the top 4 with that squad.

2.) 19 Dec 2015 17:44:21
Best squad we've had in years but bad Manager.

3.) 19 Dec 2015 17:57:33
Many posters write about this being the best squad we've had in years, but reckon that the manager is unable to get them to get results. This puts us in a Catch-22 situation imho: it's this manager who's brought in most of our better-performing players or has given our talented youngsters an opportunity - would another manager (one realistically available to us) have done that? The problem is can he get these players to perform consistently? Here's a completely daft idea: maybe we should have RM as head of recruitment and player development, but have someone else to set up the team formation and the tactics. Make RM the technical director for the entire club and take a punt on someone like big Dunc as first-team coach. How desperate, misguided and downright stupid is that knee-jerk reaction? :- (

4.) 19 Dec 2015 18:06:45
Couldn't agree more. top 6 at the very least but top 4 for me wouldn't be out of our reach.

Sid you are correct and that's the unfortuanate thing. Martinez has offered positive recruitment and I share concerns if he left we would lose our talents. However, what use is it having these talents when we can't get any results. I'd give Martinez less of a hard time if he admitted and recognised his mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, but most people learn from them.

5.) 19 Dec 2015 18:25:38
I'm not sure I'd want RM to go just yet - and neither am I sure that I'd want DM to come back.
However, the impression I got with DM was that he'd taken the club as far as he could with the financial restraints he worked under. He always had to sell players - not only to raise funds for incoming transfers, but also because the players wanted to move to clubs with better prospects of regular Champions League football and trophies. Now - as long as we stay in the Premier League and as long as the television money keeps rolling in - we're under no financial pressure to sell players. Of course, without us getting Champions League football we'd still be likely to lose our best players under any manager, but we should still be able to afford a squad that could challenge if set up with the right formation, tactics and attitude.
If we could blend the best aspects of RM and DM, then we would have a real chance.

6.) 19 Dec 2015 18:28:40
never mind top 4, we should and could be top of the league by now only for the clueless stubborn fraud of a manager. Sick of him and the bullshit he comes out with week after week. Two wins outta our last ten games five league wins all season, I want him gone now.

12 Dec 2015 14:40:52
Imagine subbing Deulofeuout and
Kone playing another 90 minutes. 3 draws with 3 promoted teams yet again. Martinez is inept. Another set piece leads to the equaliser because the
Spanish fraud doesn't think they are important. commentators talking about Europe just upsets me. Evertons squad is certainly good enough, the muppet who organises them isn't.

PB7771

1.) 12 Dec 2015 14:50:27
Barkley should of cleared that before they scored, we should of scored more in the first half, it's not Martinezs fault that we couldn't finish them off, we certainly had the chances to do it.

{Ed025's Note - we did smeg, but if the team switches off like we did in the second half again, then for me the manager has to act mate..

2.) 12 Dec 2015 15:04:03
Exactly Ed, I'm starting to think Martinez is a bigger part of the problem than I previously thought. I always gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now I'm beginning to doubt.

Barkley probably should have done better but why blame an attacking player so much for conceding a goal. Not the first time Barkley was blamed for letting in a goal.

Watch it again, tell me what was Howard doing for their goal? He may as well not of been there. Another goal around the small box. Absolutely desperate.

I'm getting pi**ed drawing games we should win.

3.) 12 Dec 2015 15:39:10
Smog, Howard got a touch on it before it reached Barkley and that's why he didn't make good contact. You can't blame the guy for everything.

07 Dec 2015 22:06:43
Martinez cost us again got me. Picking Howard week in week out I'm not even going to talk about. Playing Kone 90 minutes every week is becoming absolutely ridiculous. He was terrible again today. I knew he'd live off that hat trick. He's scored against West Brom, Watford and Sunderland. I'm not saying those goals weren't important. But he can only perform against sub standard opposition. The dominance we had in their final third left us crying out for some actual talent in Mirallas or even some attacking nouse from Naismith. Stubborn Martinez though. he cost us at Bournemouth and again today.

The only credit he will ever get from me is that he has kept a good young squad together. Besides that the man is tactically inept for English football.

PB7771

1.) 07 Dec 2015 22:13:46
He is too nice.

2.) 07 Dec 2015 22:24:51
Utter rubbish mate! Tim made at least 3 v good saves and still you criticize him. Why!?

Kone played quite well imo not great but linked up well with those around him. What are you talking about. Living off his hat trick!? What's the matter? Are you sore because Mirallas didn't get on!? How often has Mirallas scored against the big teams?

{Ed025's Note - credit where its due to tim aflm, i thought he played very well, kone done ok but i would like to see him busting a gut a bit more mate..

3.) 07 Dec 2015 23:01:11
Mirallas has scored against Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Man Utd and Arsenal I believe if that's in question. I also mentioned Naismith incase you missed that. Howard made some good saves but I think Robles would make them saves. A floated corner into the box for me should have the keeper collecting the ball. I accept TH is an easy target and I don't hate the guy, I've stated before he has been excellent for the club, no longer though in my opinion.

I can't even debate Kone, he is terrible. Bottom 6 standard for me e. g. Norwich, Villa. We're going to have to agree to disagree here. He lost the ball constantly, didn't work hard enough to get into the box for crosses and generally he lacks any real quality for our team. If you don't have quality you have to have work rate and he has neither.

Im not here to bash Kone because Mirallas doesn't play. or at least it wasn't my intention. I don't hate any EFC player but he was knackered after 60 minutes and should have gone off. The post was mainly relating to Martinez.

Just to add to something I forgot earlier. set pieces. It's well known Roberto doesn't think set pieces are important thus doesn't practice them. We have conceded the most goals from set pieces this season and scored the fewest. In the PL set pieces are a great route to goal and our defending and attacking efforts are horrific. that is down the manager.

4.) 07 Dec 2015 23:05:32
Yes, if we had Joel Robles in goal that ball never reaches Scott Dann. But our Goalie treats Footballs like a hot potato.

{Ed025's Note - he was blocked off to be fair swan.

5.) 07 Dec 2015 23:16:32
There's a great picture of Scott Dann with his arms out celebrating whilst Tim Howard is still looking for the ball. If he's blocked off then win a foul (IE Joel vs Middlesborough) or clean everyone out (IE most Goalkeepers) .

6.) 07 Dec 2015 23:20:25
That's what 5 goals against the big boys in 3 full seasons hardly prolific, is it!?

I don't want to criticize Kev too much as would like to see him back in the team myself, but it's not going to happen for whatever reason and at the end of the day he has never been consistently brilliant.

But both you an Swan are talking rubbish if you think any keeper let alone Robles would have come to collect that corner! That was why I said utter rubbish not really Kone.

7.) 07 Dec 2015 23:35:03
aflm, it really isn't worth talking about it, you are so obviously biased to Tim Howard for whatever reasons.

West Brom

Liverpool

Arsenal

Man City

Crystal Palace

All them games he is not at fault for any according to you, De Gea, Courtois, Hart, Lloris, Forster, Cech, the list goes on, you will never find them conceding headers like that inside the six yard area on a regular basis. Joel had about 10 of those balls in to deal with against Norwich, just in the first half. He dealt with them all so don't give me this of no one would ever come out for that cross. Most Goalkeepers in the Prem come for near enough every corner, especially when it's inside the six yard area. But what do we know, you think starjumping over Footballs and letting them go in the back of the net is normal. I love the "let alone Robles", so not a Joel fan but a pretty big howard fan I see.

8.) 08 Dec 2015 00:53:54
Swan I'm not a Howard fan just tired of all this nonsense! He made 3 great saves tonight and is still criticized.

Let alone Robles because he could hardly at this time be considered a top class keeper (given that he has such little experience) nothing to do with liking him or not!

Every one of those keepers has made mistakes and let in soft goals Courtois was beaten from 50 yds against Stoke. Hart let in a series of howlers a cpl of seasons ago. And Cech flapped at a cpl in his first few games for Arsenal. It happens! Be as irate as you want but you dislike Tim so much that you're starting to see mistakes that don't exist.

And doesn't matter how many good saves he makes these days people just looking for something to use against him. It's getting boring mate!

9.) 08 Dec 2015 03:51:37
Sorry you mentioned no getting beat 6 yards out, plus none of them make as many mistakes as Howard. Shows how badly your clutching at straws when you mention "howlers a cpl seasons ago". Even our greatest Goalkeeper (Not Tim Howard) big Nev has said Howard should of easily stopped the goal.

10.) 08 Dec 2015 10:56:38
Swan you are constantly bringing up Tim's howlers from a cpl of seasons ago and now you say I'm clutching at straws for using Hart's poor form a cpl of seasons ago as an example of keepers having bad moments of form. Seems a little hypocritical on you part.

Anyway whatever this nonsense is not going to end until Tim's gone. I just hope all this rubbish negativity doesn't affect him anymore and lead him to make more "errors".

I hope Martinez signs a new keeper in Jan but I doubt it so looks like I'm going to have to listen to this rubbish for a while longer!

Best striker we've had for a long time and 'fans' still obsessed with nit picking little things. Maybe he didn't celebrate because it was 3-0 game over? His job is to score goals which he does as Woburn said, not to satisfy your ridiculous expectations to run around kneesliding.

Enjoy him whilst he here's, we'll miss him when he's gone.

At S1878, he played plenty of times last term. Of course he was behind Higuain, but he did get minutes. Higuain also got a ban late on in the season and Gabbi featured then.

He scored a screamer against Frosinone when Napoli won 5-1 (i think)

He also featured prominently in Europe and looked great against Midjtylland of Denmark, a side United struggled with.

Napoli are a very expansive attacking side, much like us. MG would fit into our style of play quickly in my opinion, which is something that is often a struggle when purchasing abroad.

Bony is useless in my opinion, back at swans he was the main man and definitely did well but truly think he over achieved. At City obviously not the main man and when he's played has been awful! Will not be 1st choice with us either, definitely do not want and honestly think he would be a similar standard to Kone.

Gabbiadini on the other hand is awesome, seen him play 5 or 6 times last season and has fantastic technical ability. Reminds me of Dimitar Berbatov a little bit, but he's not as lazy. Great left foot and good in the air. Bit of snide in him as well which some people hate, but i personally love it and think its needed.

Agree with ed025 regarding mobility, really want this transfer myself.

Navas is arguably the most overrated winger in the Prem. most frustrating player i've seen for a long time. On trick pony, beat man to the byline with pace, smack ball hard and low to nobody in the box.

Bony found out at a better team, would be gutted if we took him over money.

Zaza is an excellent player with an eye for a goal. Was at sassuolo in the 14/ 15 season and performed well scoring plenty of goals. Got his move to Juve that summer and seen limited opportunities behind dybala, mandzukic and morata. When he did play, he did score goals and had an excellent goals per minute ratio I think.

Good signing if happens, would like Us to be more ambitous and throw in bids for the likes of Higuain, lacazette, Morata, Gameiro etc would we get them? Probs not. Is it worth a go? absolutely.

Not writing Rom off personally at this point either. Would still like another top class striker however.

Talented player capable of scoring goals. Direct and very hard working. Decent season at Rennes last time out and had a decent goals/ assist return considering his was mainly a bit part player under Claude Puel.

In my opinion Mirallas is a better player, but Grosicki could certainly be a weapon from the bench. £8m in the current climate is a snip in my opinion. We should be seeking to build a squad of 18 excellent players, not just XI. Would welcome the deal myself.

What an idiotic comment. Dowell is clearly talented, but he's nowhere near Ross YET. Regardless, we shouldn't be looking to 'replace' Barkley with Dowell, we should be looking for a way to integrate them both into the same side.

Will never understand the hate for Barkley, gives his heart to this club and for what? Non stop abuse. It's like the fans are trying to force one of England's hottest talents out of the club, one of our own, it's shameful and borderline embarrassing.

^ Well said BlueJohnUns, too many fans with short memories.

id have a look at Serge Aurier for RB. completely frozen out of PSG following his unsavoury comments. Talented player with a great physical presence who would fit our system. Unfortunately, he would have a few higher profile suitors I would suspect.
