I said earlier in this season that I expected us to finish around 16/17 I still expect that to be the case kissing relegation at points this season.

Just really really hope we bring in recruits in Jan if not it's going to be long winter.

26 Oct 2026 17:31:49
I hope so to GB, but not sure where the money will come from given that we did not have anything much to spend in the summer.
Bought two bargain basement players, midfielder for 7m, and RB for 4m, unless Balogun 40m is still available for use.

10th at finish.

26 Oct 2026 10:40:18
It could be worse chaps, we could have Carrick as manager 😂.

0

26 Oct 2026 11:21:50
You say that Nick, and I keep hearing that United are really bad, yet we couldn't beat them at home.

So what does that really say about us?

1

26 Oct 2026 11:23:47
I'm actually not sure if it's all down to Carrick or some of the big gob sulky players he is having to deal with. I mean their not exactly short on mouthing off to the press every time they lose, and blame everyone else but themselves for the mess they are in.
Wonder if Moyes would be interested in the job?

4

26 Oct 2026 12:31:15
Whilst I agree with what is being said in about Moyes, my concern is that if/when he goes, what top class Manager would want to come to the club in its current situation, I. e. up for sale/ no money to spend/prepared to sell our top players. (Armstrong and Garner (? ) back in the summer) .

0

26 Oct 2026 12:52:15
Here's the rub: with us, Nick, United are not up for sale, and Carrick is probably looking over his shoulder at plenty of would-be Manchester United bosses, mate.
Moyes can just carry on with the poor results, and nobody is breathing down his neck.

2

26 Oct 2026 13:01:04
A well run club would have the replacement signed and sealed before shipping the manager off. We will not be spectacular under Moyes, but I also think we'll be well clear of relegation.

1

26 Oct 2026 13:04:23
No need for superstar manager someone with half a footballing brain will do start playing different players instead of same week in week out drop barry try alcaraz there if that doesn't work try george would braden Graham be any worse not a chance dibling been with us 18 months doesn't get a sniff Johnson starts most games push garner to full back play Hackney along side Armstrong.

2

26 Oct 2026 13:16:24
I agree TL.

1

26 Oct 2026 13:27:21
JB, up to this season I would have gone along with that, probably without question or caveat, mate.
Now I am with the anti-Moyes side of the argument totally; if he won't try something new and drop Barry for one thing, I just cannot see past a very serious relegation struggle.

1

26 Oct 2026 13:51:53
I think you're missing the fact that most managers have big egos and if you pay them enough they will come.

Already mentioned this bloke a few times - Claudio Giraldez.

He took over from the Fat Spanish waiter. Surprisingly, they were near the relegation zone, where he guided them to safety. The following season he guided them to a 7th place finish and got them into the Europa league, where he managed to reach the quarter finals but were beaten by the eventual finalists, Freiburg.

He got the Celta job due to his success with their development side. He is happy to give youth a chance and has had to do so working with such a limited side as Celta. This would suit us right now due to the amount of young talent that we have and little money we have to invest.

Has similarities to Moyes that would suit the team we have, in that he builds from defensive stability, however, where he differs, is that he is not scared to change his approach and formations to suit the players he has available or to tackle the team he faces each game, rather than sticking to the same old boring and predictable setup. He is also not afraid to utilise the entire squad and make in-game changes to affect the outcome. He is also a lot more attack minded than Moyes and has a more fluid approach to games.

A summary of his main attacking principles would be:

1. Building from the back to create passing options.

2. Using width to stretch the opposition's defensive structure.

3. Positioning midfielders to connect the defensive and attacking lines.

4. Moving players into different spaces to create passing lanes.

5. Advancing the ball quickly when an opening appears.

6. Taking calculated risks to progress through pressure.

Defensively:

A. Pressing high.

B. Closing passing lanes and forcing rushed decisions.

C. Compressing space around the ball.

D. Using midfielders and forwards to trigger pressure collectively.

E. Adjusting the height of the defensive block to the opposition and available players.

Perhaps what is most likeable about him is that he is not afraid to adapt his approach depending on the opposition. He is not stubborn and set in his ways, which ordinarily results in managers getting a hiding by the better sides. Instead, he realises his sides limitations and adapts his formations, his shape and tactical approach when the big boys come to town.

I watched Celta do a number on Real Madrid last season and it was not a smash and grab job. They were disciplined, yet measured and absolutely deserved their 2-0 victory. They defended with a plan, rather than pressed indiscriminately.

Tactical identity - Proactive and adaptable

Possession - Build, progress and create advantages

Attacking - Width, movement and flexible positioning

Pressing - Coordinated pressure, adjusted to circumstances

Defending - Can alternate between a higher press and a compact, deeper block

Youth - Genuine pathway from academy to first team

Squad management - Trust, respect and active competition

Team selection - Match-specific adjustments and rotation

Training - High standards, with emphasis on quality

Long-term planning - Build a recognisable club identity

Celta are currently sat in 9th with 2 wins, 6 draws and 2 losses. They have just beaten Celtic at Parkhead in the Europa league.

I think he would be a great appointment for us due to the fact he would be able to lean on the strengths this side already has (or had) with it's defensive ability, whilst incorporating a more tactful and attacking approach.

Not only that, he would 100% start utilising the young talent we have in this squad and sift out the deadwood that has offered us nothing for years.

Just reading comments on here - very hard to hear folk are finished with / close to be finished with EFC / football. I include myself in this bracket.

I don't think we are asking for the World. Realistically top 4 is not an option for EFC under current Premier League cartel

We would however like to look forward to our team playing attacking football and giving teams a real go getting fans behind them and come away from games having seen a decent match.

Leeds / Brighton / Sunderland / Palace / Brentford etc have all done this over last couple of years with mixed fortunes but had the courage to give it a go

Moyes is no different to Dyche - we have been served up dross for over a decade - when was last time we really played well and sore some good goals and made memories - I honestly cannot pick much out.

Why can't we see Dibling, Hackney, George, Alcaraz, Armstrong, OBrien, Branthwaite, Garner, Dewsberry Hall on the pitch together - Moyes bought most of them

Why on earth have we been left with Barry as only striker - he wouldn't get a game for any team in the league let alone be only striker

Moyes is setting the tone with his miserable performances and attitude

Need a new manager - candidates only who can move us away from this dire brand of football we somehow have been tagged with

We all should be coming on here talking about great goals, crosses, close games, dribbles, youth development but we are left talking about new board, managers, owners, fines, point destructions, hopeless forwards for years and years.

Imagine being 7-16 years old now - would you be keen to support EFC - I grew up with Reid, Heath, Gray, Sharp, Stevens, Southall, Bracewell to name a few but more over - from the whistle we had balls to just bloody go for it as we were EFC!

I grew up before those 5 players you mentioned it's been hard going since the 80s, now reading we losing £1 million per week not easy loving my Club mate.

We just lack ambition as a club Sobs. The owners have pulled their flag from the ground. The manager might talk ambition if quizzed on it but in his heart of hearts knows he has none. He's not a winner and can't cut it in the PL. So he creates a false identity for the club that we are underdogs for every game.
He completely underestimates our football knowledge and tries to gaslight us into thinking he saves us from the abyss. That we should be grateful for a nil nil draw against a newly promoted team citing there's no easy games in the PL!
Well David, we know they aren't easy which is why we need a coach to win us games. Not give up before a ball is kicked. He's created a mentality that we must score first to win (you can see this in the stats when we concede first) .
Our plan B is everyone's plan A. In which we only attack when we go behind rather than attack until we go in front. It's not rocket science to know you'll lose more than you'll win with this tactic. And of course we lose more than we win.
The unmistakable fact is that we will have nothing to shout about with him in charge.

Just plenty to moan about.
I feel for the players who are just driven to distraction at the apathetic tactics. They went into this career dreaming of winning and are slowly being brainwashed into being grateful to share the same pitch with clubs like Hull and Coventry, rather than showing them that they're part of the club that these teams should look to in awe.
The people that run and coach our club lack ambition, sporting competence and any sort of desire to dare to win. We are the a Giant in history that's pretty irrelevant in the present. We have one of the newest and best stadiums in world football. Which for us is like having a Ferrari with no petrol to go in it. Very Sad.
So sell the club and change the manager. We don't need a multi billionaire just someone who can maximise and utilise our income more effectively. And then change the manager. Who do we get? Well anyone of the clubs in this league can answer that as they've already got someone who's better than what we have.

Let have a look at the recruitment team, all of us on here know we haven't had a decent forward for years then they go bring in Beto and Barry, get rid of them do them as well for not doing there job.

2

26 Oct 2026 11:27:18
But the manager must have some say in bringing these players in Pb. We've recently added AMN and Norgaard neither look to be strengthening us at the moment, and we have Hackney and Dibbling sitting on the bench.

Im 31. May 1995 our last success, i was born July 95. Its not been fun and doesn't seem likely to change anytime soon.

Brilliant post Ace.

Yes your right Brass but it's not often you see any manager at another game looking at players they want.

Reading that Tarks could be banned for the next three games after comments he has made about the ref in Saturdays game, hmmmm.

1

25 Oct 2026 22:19:00
For telling the truth!

2

25 Oct 2026 23:56:39
Keith Hacker is a public hog, trying to prove he's still reliant. Tarks expressed his opinion, no attack, just his view. The match official was disgraceful, Tarks did not rant, just stated the obvious, if anyone should miss games after Saturday it should be the referee.

1

25 Oct 2026 19:21:11
Think the next 2 games will tell us more where we're at than the last 2 games.

1

25 Oct 2026 21:09:53
The last 15 games will tell you that mate 2 wins only.

2

25 Oct 2026 18:04:50
Could we send someone to spy on Bournemouth and Brighton and try and get an eye on their blueprint two extremely well run competitive clubs.

3

26 Oct 2026 08:01:57
I reason you should do it Bleeds. Just find a bigger tree to hide behind.

2

25 Oct 2026 15:58:43
What a game take a leaf out of Bournemouth that's how to do it, get at them constantly those prime donas hate it well done, Everton take note.

2

25 Oct 2026 16:16:04
Because they visit with the mentality 'we can hurt these'

Whereas our club, and its fully the manager imo, turn up and say 'These are a good team, a points a great result'

That will never change until we lose the manager.

I have been extremely vocal in my disdain towards the manager, however I do believe its so strong due to compounded emotions due to us always hiring the same kinda managers. 4 years of Dyche and Moyes, factor in Allardyce and Benitez too all in the past 8 years. Sucks the joy out of the game.

Carlo madrid came calling and Lampard obviously just didn't work, but young modern managers have show major success at other prem clubs in the past 5 years. Try it again.

6

25 Oct 2026 16:23:37
Never really expected us to beat Arsenal, but to me the real test will be how we get on in the next three league matches, Newcastle, Coventry, Brentford, and where that leaves us before the big game at the end of November.

4

25 Oct 2026 17:43:39
Exactly Farmer Giles mate.

2

25 Oct 2026 20:37:57
Well it will be the same players, the same tactics and the same boring play. It will tell us nothing that we don't now know.
We can only hope that Branthwaite and Grealish are fit and that he gives George and Dibling a run and leaves Johnson, Maitland-Niles and Narguard at home, however read line one again.

2

25 Oct 2026 15:53:29
Carrick about to become available i would think after todays game.

0

25 Oct 2026 13:24:11
Another game of football where we set records for the teams we play. Arsenal hadn't scored a set-piece before today.

If that clown plays Johnson ahead of Dibling in the next game, then that alone is enough of a reason to drag him out of Finch Farm.

Johnson had 6 touches in the first half and 10 in total before he was subbed off in 72nd minute. 10 touches for a right winger in todays game is absolutely horrendous. Dibling came on for him and had 24 touches.

It is time to give this lad a fair crack of the whip.

7

25 Oct 2026 14:14:32
Absolutely BN and not just a couple of games mate. Give the lad a proper run in the side.

2

25 Oct 2026 15:02:06

Aye mate, same with young Hackney as well! At least the two of them have the b******* to get on the ball and look to go forward.

2

25 Oct 2026 15:25:38
Moyes take on jake obrien had me convinced he's trying to loose the dressing room said obrien still has a lot to learn probably what he thinks of dibling n alcaraz not the sort of manager that makes you want to run through brick walls is it.

4

25 Oct 2026 16:16:08
Moyes was half the player JOB is and just like we are stuck with a hatstand for a center forward we are also stuck with a turnip for a manager.my God i'm getting close to being finished with football.

3

25 Oct 2026 20:09:16
Have you been drinking BB you called it football!

0

25 Oct 2026 20:47:09

0

25 Oct 2026 21:40:22
You need to laugh about something BB after the crap we've been watching.
