This has started to do the rounds about Liam Delap not being overly keen to swap Chelsea for the Hill Dickinson Stadium. I really don't fancy him if I am truly honest but tis is the headline.
I've been hearing whispers - Everton could back away from Liam Delap deal amid 'dithering'.

Hopefully this is the truest rumour ever posted on this site.

I would genuinely rather give Beto the striker spot for a full season instead of less than a half season's worth, than get Delap in.

Give the lad the chance to see if he can replicate his numbers across a season's worth of minutes and get to 18-20 goals.

Obviously we would all like to see a new striker or two come in, but give me Beto over Delap all day.

It doesn't help that the lad comes across as a bit of a t*** imo, and he doesn't back it up with his performances. His finishing whilst he has been at Chelsea has been horrible. For anyone that has a spare 60 seconds, type in "I found Liam Delap's Last 17 Shots..." on YouTube.

Delap isn't a particularly good footballer is he. Usually you can forgive goal scorers for this, Lukaku comes to mind. Delap though, has never been an out and out goal scorer at any level, and then he hasn't got the other side to the game where he is creating and making players better around him, like a Firmino type.

His record, considering he is 23 years old and has only spent 2 years in the Premier League, is abysmal.

25 goals and 4 assists in 134 League games.
1 goal and 3 assists in 16 Domestic Cup games.
2 goals and 1 assist in 12 European games.

That roughly translates to 1 goal every 5 games across his league minutes, 1 goal every 16 games in Cup games, and 1 every 6 games across European games.

I haven't considered his youth numbers at club level, but seeing as though he hasn't played for England, his numbers through the England U18's, U19's, U20's & U21's aren't even impressive.

6 goals in 23 International games, with a consistent 1 goal every 4 games.

For the rumoured 40m, we could get a much better footballer than him to lead our line.

I would even rather us put the 40m (and a little bit more) to go and get two strikers in of a different profile than spunk it away on a man desperately who is more concerned with trying to play the 'hard man' than score goals. Perhaps if this were 50 years ago, he may have had more value, but I am not sure what he is going to add to this team other than an abundance of yellow cards and a bit more physicality and s***housery.

I've seen the debate on signing Lukaku and weather it's a step back with nostalgia but I read his contract is about to expire so if we were to get him on a free wouldn't it make sense for a season or two because pinky and perky are useless up top.

12 Jul 2026 09:28:15
Seriously, what is the point in this all new recruitment team and ending up with all these oldies. The brief should be clear, young talent with room to progress, with a resale value.

3

12 Jul 2026 10:19:35
The Richarlison chat hasn't even started yet.

2

12 Jul 2026 10:24:31
Providing he is able to pass a serious fitness examination, then a short-term deal would be a good move. He may need someone like Beto to do his running, that would mean a 442 set-up, but all the chances that went begging last season, would I believe see us finishing much higher in the table.

2

12 Jul 2026 10:55:11
The recruitment team seem to be running in treacle, and with the two useless clowns we have up top, I'd take Lukaku on a free all day long. Let me know when the recruitment team unearth a gem.

1

12 Jul 2026 11:03:35
Well he would have to lose a bit of timber. Sorry, but the guy has had his day. We should be looking for the next Lukaku, not the once was version.

3

12 Jul 2026 11:13:34
Do u have faith in our recruitment team for it? They unearthed the next hat stand in TB. The head of our team is one Mr R Charles, and his assistant a Mr S Wonder.

2

12 Jul 2026 11:43:15
If this is true it's a desperate move or we don't have any money.

3

12 Jul 2026 12:11:35
I honestly can't believe we would honestly consider Lukaku, if we are going to go down that route I would rather have Vardy.

2

12 Jul 2026 14:22:14
To be devil's advocate. He played less than 40mins all season, yet had a pretty impressive impact on a decrepit and injury-hit Belgium as the lone striker. Just saying. I wouldn't be angry with what I saw of him. Sure, we need the new Lukaku, I agree with that, but if there was a new Lukaku out there, he'd not be coming here. And, even at his age, with the extra timber, he's way better than BB and would be cheap. Also a DM punisher would shave some of that off.

I think he'll take one last pay day and go Saudi myself, but we can't just buy a youth team and wait 3 or 4 seasons for them to flourish. We need a few old gits. On 2-year deals. It's a balance of kids and pros who can keep the general upturn whilst those kids become men. I was definitely in the Vardy camp last summer and he proved when fit he scores goals, but this summer? Nah, even a 50% Lukaku is still an EPL threat. Vardy is a year older and the pace in Italy is his lane.

Jacob Murphy linked to us.

12 months left on his deal. 31 years old. If the price is right, I would definitely look at this for squad depth.

75 mins and needing a change from the bench, give me Murphy over the likes of McNeil every day of the week.

Works his b****** off and the amount of minutes he has played at Newcastle given his goal/assist output is disrespectful imo.

14 goals and 23 assists in his last 3 seasons for the Barcodes, in approx. 50 games, equalling well over a G/A every other game.

11 Jul 2026 15:53:31
Good solid player him one side and Jack the other, both good crossers get him in.

3

11 Jul 2026 17:45:36
Can't see us getting him a Grealish.

1

11 Jul 2026 18:05:00
I agree, like the lad, and he is better than what we have. Where are all the moaners, though, complaining that it's a typical Moyes deal for an old man?

0

11 Jul 2026 18:22:11
A very tidy footballer, good for the squad for sure.

0

11 Jul 2026 18:58:52
Good squad player, but we have young players I'd far rather see introduced late on than him.

Just another excuse for Moyes to throw him on instead of George, Dibling or Aznou.

2

11 Jul 2026 19:50:10
Will he be happy being a squad player though?

09 Jul 2026 15:05:19
Right, quick rundown on who Moyes and the team are actually looking at for our right back situation. Whether any of these get over the line is on the recruitment team, but these are the five names in the mix:

Rico Lewis (Man City)
Big target. Moyes loves the versatility. City will sell if he’s not in their plans.

Raoul Bellanova (Atalanta)
This one’s the hottest. We’ve already put in a £17m + addons bid. Atalanta want £20m.

Aaron Wan‑Bissaka (West Ham)
Moyes trusts him. Proper defensive full back. West Ham want £15–20m and we’re leading the race.

Georgios Vagiannidis (Sporting CP)
Around £9m. Wants a move to a bigger, more competitive league. We’ve gone back in with fresh enquiries.

Guela Doue (Strasbourg)
Rated by Moyes and the recruitment lads, but the price is too high right now.

Then there are other names mentioned by the press but they are not actually on the radar:

Djed Spence (Tottenham)
He’s not currently part of Moyes’ shortlist. Everton have looked at him in the past, but there’s no live interest this summer and no fresh enquiries have been made. Spurs are trying to move him on, but Moyes is prioritising players with stronger defensive reliability.

Ben White (Arsenal) ,
He’s been mentioned in passing because of Arsenal’s situation, but he’s not a realistic right back target. Arsenal value him too high, his wages are more than what we would commit too and he prefers to play as a centre back.

I hope this helps everyone.

09 Jul 2026 16:41:43
Well, out of all of those I would take Rico Lewis. Already has Prem experience and is only going to get better.

09 Jul 2026 20:10:43
Personally, I'm not sure if any are quite what I think we need.

They're all massive improvements on what we have, no doubt, but, for me, we need someone with pace and directness; someone who can bomb down the wing, overlap, and give defenders another thing to think about while our RW cuts inside.

Lewis is good, but he's arguably more of a CM than a RB. Wan-Bissaka is defensively strong and offensively fine, but not a lot of threat going forward. Vagiannidis and Ballanova seem more like what we need, but I'm not very familiar with them, and a very cursory glance at some forums suggest neither team's own fans rate them at all (the word 'trash' was used multiple times on the former's) .

And Doue seems good, but again is part of Moyes' obsession with tall fullbacks, which I think is entirely redundant.

I don't rate him enormously, but I actually think Spence is the option which suits a traditional Moyes system the best.

1

09 Jul 2026 22:01:07
If we can get him, it has to be Lewis, the lad likes getting forward and is solid in defence.

1

10 Jul 2026 10:20:45
Out of the ones mentioned, Spence for me. Skilful, extremely fast, could also play in midfield. However, I think he would be very expensive in the £30 million +.

Thanks to the 2 or 3 posters who are clearly well informed. Or, at least, are able to compile good information from the dearth of mindless opinion and click bait tripe. Makes pages like this tolerable above the usual yawn fest repeated daily posts. Thank you.

3

10 Jul 2026 11:33:50
Either Spence or Lewis would make sense. Neither likely to start regularly for their current clubs and both would immediately improve us.

2

10 Jul 2026 13:52:02
Looks like Wan Bissaka then. 😆😆 I only say this because us fans want an attacking fullback, which doesn't suit how DM plays safe option every time. I would take Wan Bissaka as well if it means O'Brien isn't RB. Who knows, DM might shock us all.

1

10 Jul 2026 23:05:43
I wish that we would pay whatever is needed for the best right-fullback we can get. This has been a need for years now, and compromising on the amount we pay should not be in the equation.

1

09 Jul 2026 01:13:08
Palace signing Mingueza from Celta Vigo - Free agent.

Think it is absolutely mental that we haven't tried to get him.

Still dic**ng around with the likes of Doue etc and this lad is good enough to be a starter and he is free. If you want to go and get Doue in as well, by all means, but considering we need a RB so badly and more than one, seems a chance missed this.

If he is prepared to go to Palace with Munoz to compete with, he would definitely come to us as the guaranteed starter (as things stand) .

3

09 Jul 2026 08:15:02
Because he's more of a wing-back/winger playing in a back 5 than an out-and-out full back in a back 4, which is how we play. He suits Crystal Palace perfectly but wouldn't suit us currently unless he changes his style of play.
Not every available player would suit playing for us.

Their style of play is important. Seen a lot of comments claiming he's not very good defensively despite previously playing as a CB in his past. We need an actual full back who is good going forward but must be a defender first and foremost.

2

09 Jul 2026 11:28:23
I appreciate that is where Claudio Giraldez has been playing him, but he can cover RB, RWB, RCB, LB, LWB & can even play as an inverted midfielder.

The lad is a very clever footballer, and to get somebody in for free that can cover so many positions, seems a no brainer for me.

Agree that he suits Palace, but I would be shocked if he is taking minutes off Munoz, unless he himself is off elsewhere perhaps.

Whenever I have watched him, he seems competent defensively. He isn't the most physical, but has a lot of intelligence both in defence and attack.

1

09 Jul 2026 12:22:48
Chances are with most players we are not in for, that agents are spoken to and player is simply not interested.

Fans really don't know who teams speak to and what discussions are had behind the scenes. We are solely at the mercy of journalists of variable reliability.

0

09 Jul 2026 13:23:47
My first question would be, is Moyes staying or going?

0

09 Jul 2026 14:17:28
No reason to think he'd be going.

1

09 Jul 2026 14:25:00
My thoughts to why would he go?

1

09 Jul 2026 16:50:57
Well, the situation will resolve itself over the next few weeks. The club has surprised me with the fact that the first three players signed are young and relatively inexperienced at this level, (yes I know we had two of them last season) , and we are talking to a 19-year-old's agent.

We have also made big changes in the Academy set-up.
Then, we have Moyes who has not shown any indication last season that he trusts or is willing to give much playing time to young players.
So, what is next, is it Moyes-driven recruiting of more seasoned players or more younger players with potential?

0

10 Jul 2026 11:35:56
Interesting, Mike. If the owners/recruitment team's approach is to sign younger talent with sell on value, then Moyes will have to show them that he is the man to use these players in whatever system he puts in place. We'd all love to see a more progressive, attacking, energetic approach. That doesn't scream Moyes, does it?

0

08 Jul 2026 22:50:56
I’m being told that there is concrete interest in Djed Spence from Moyes and that he is 1 of 3 right back options currently being considered by the board.

2

09 Jul 2026 07:39:08
Who are the other 2, Ben White and Bissaka?

0

09 Jul 2026 07:40:34
It really does baffle me how we haven't already got a left back in. How long has it been since we've desperately needed one? We've gone out got Hackney, but we are still at a point of we are considering. We should know who we want and bids gone in. I know players have choices, I know a lot goes into getting a player, but I thought we had a crack team of people in place for this.

Yet we are no closer to getting a right back than we were last season. We need these players in, ready to start, not wait a few weeks because they arrived at the end of the window, if at all.

Plenty of time to bring more new faces in mate.

1

08 Jul 2026 21:48:53.
Inter after Guela Doue.

2

09 Jul 2026 11:28:26
Our recruitment team, I despair. Overpriced established players, players who are a little cheaper but only because they have failed elsewhere, or players who nobody wants because their performance levels have fallen off a cliff.
I'm a bit long in the tooth, I've been going since 1963, but even my non-professional eye could spot better, cheaper options. Our recruitment team are stealing their wages.

08 Jul 2026 18:46:38
Anyone heard of Ricardo Pepi seen we have been linked. Probably paper talk as normal.

2

08 Jul 2026 19:17:11
Saw on WC. Poor, in my opinion, and allergic to shooting. So very likely to happen.

2

08 Jul 2026 19:26:03
The Pepi situation is definitely one to keep an eye on now. His move to Fulham has basically fallen apart over the injury clauses, and PSV still want him gone this summer, so it's opened the door again for other clubs.

We've been tracking him for a while, and with Fulham stepping back, it wouldn't surprise me if we try to get involved. No sign of a bid from us yet, but the opportunity is there and the timing lines up with us looking for a striker.

1

08 Jul 2026 17:50:54
Picture doing the rounds of Christian Kofane's agent arriving to meet with club staff to discuss a transfer. Could be that this one is more than just paper talk.

2

08 Jul 2026 19:11:06
His agent actually was at Finch Farm today, so this isn't just someone guessing or passing on a rumour. With Everton having brought him in for a proper meeting, then we're clearly trying to get ahead of the other clubs and push early. You don't invite an agent down unless a bid has already gone in or is about to. This kind of visit is usually where the club talks through the contract, wages, length, and the role they're offering. It definitely feels like we're moving with intent on Kofane rather than just being mentioned in the paper columns.

2

08 Jul 2026 19:32:54
Sounds promising.

0

08 Jul 2026 19:59:18
Sure, I saw that on FIFA managerial mode, Optimum. Sometimes it was in a cafe or a restaurant as well as Finch Farm..

0

08 Jul 2026 20:21:49
Because it's us, we will potentially drop the ball with this one, but if it is true and we actually get him in and sell one of the Chuckle brothers. That would tell me that these new people have a clear idea of what they want to do. Bringing in the likes of Garner & Ndiaye and now Rohl, Hackney and hopefully Kofane.

If they do well for us, with the age they are at, it means we are guaranteed decent money.

Look at the business the likes of Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton have done in recent years.

Buying small and selling high.

The fees going around now for a basic midfielder are ridiculous though. It makes me wonder what a Keane, Vieira, Scholes, Lampard or Gerrard would be in today's market.

If Anderson is that price that means Jimmy is at least £75/80m, but personally, I think he's better than Anderson, so I would want more and take the age difference into account.

0

08 Jul 2026 20:45:55
As long as we don't end up like Newcastle and selling all the players in 2-3 years time, BN. Crazy to think how much they have sold in the last two seasons.

0

08 Jul 2026 21:44:48
Just watched his reels and it's as though this is what Barry and Beto would be like if their legs and brains were connected and
co-ordinated in some way.

0

08 Jul 2026 22:32:54
I know, BR. I would feel sorry for them if it wasn't Newcastle, but it is mental how they can't close the gap to the big boys.

They have just signed a young 18 year old from Ajax. They are obviously banking on him being the next De Jong, Sneijder, I imagine.

Spot on there, Big C!

If we go and spunk around 30m on a Pepi or alike, when we could pay 40/45m and get him in, it will be such a poor decision and proof that no lessons have been learned from the past.

08 Jul 2026 22:42:33
Speaking ahead of Bayer Leverkusen's game against Arsenal in the Champions League in March 2026, manager Kasper Hjulmand relayed quite the interesting story.

Hjulmand revealed that after criticising some parts of Kofane, he came back the next day demanding more critiques.

He said: "A few weeks ago, I criticised him a bit in training, and then the next day he came to me and said: 'Please, keep it up. I want more criticism, I want to learn.'

"For me, it's simply impressive that Kofi came to Europe at the end of 2024 and moved here in the summer of 2025 - and how he has developed since then, the way he works, how he adapts and learns."

Exactly what you want to hear.

This lad will have all the attributes that Beto doesn't, but will share his work rate and desire to get better. Would rather have him doing that with us than Leverkusen. I would rather have him doing that with us than sticking with Barry Chuckle.
