Just read a rumour linking us to Watkins. Although it is probably horse s***, it did make me think about the possibility of signing him or not.

What would people's thoughts on him be?

He's looked out of sorts this season, would be expensive, and have no sell on value. Would rather we went for someone on the up. I'd be happy to see Jhon Duran come in or Agehowa from Porto.

He has definitely had a quieter season JB but still managed 9 goals and 2 assists.

Before that his numbers are very good tbf:

It is a weird one. I have never been a fan of him and think he is very wasteful but those numbers can't be argued with.

I get the retirement home shout as well Ed but 30 isn't as old as it used to be and he isn't a player that relies on pace or anything like that.

Caught in two minds about it tbf. He does guarantee goals in the hardest league in the world and would easily be our best striker ahead of the other two lads.

He's an upgrade on what we have for sure, BN. If he was out of contract I'd be tempted. I just think, for what he'd cost, we should be looking at a younger option.

I think there are better players to lead the line out there, BN.

Thiago at Brentford would be an interesting one to go for. It depends on whether Brentford would sell, but I also think bigger clubs will be in for him. Also think Evanilson at Bournemouth, when fit, could be a decent player to go for.

There's no questioning he's an improvement on what we have, but that's because of the poor choices we have made in the transfer market over the last few seasons.

It's looking more and more that Beto is our best striker, and that says a lot about our scouts. They probably haven't heard of Watkins, as he isn't a stupidly expensive and overrated kid that may or may not come good in 5 years time. We have one of those in the U21s, but don't seem to look there either!

Links to Roggerio Nyakossi - 22 yr old, right-footed, 6ft 4 Swiss CB. Contract runs until June 2027 and available for below 10m.

By all accounts he is a big and powerful lad, who is dominant in the air. He can actually carry the ball quite well considering his frame. Has captained some of his youth national sides up to Swiss U21's.

Physically elite.
Defensively aggressive.
Technically still very raw.

Marseille have a buy-back clause apparently and the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool are interested, as well as clubs across Europe.

I don't think tying Jimmy down to a new deal could have come at a better time.

His value is only going one way and will soon sky rocket if he keeps getting plaudits in the press and compliments from the national team manager, comparing him to one of the best midfielders in the world.

Hopefully we invest this summer enough to convince him to stay as I imagine there will be a few clubs after him come the end of the season and the tournament this summer.

Stability will be an attractive proposition for the owners, especially when you see what's happening to the likes of Spurs. Whilst maybe not spectacular, Moyes is a safe pair of hands, but also has a point to prove, I think. Expect him to be backed in the summer and continue the revival.

What Beto highlighted yesterday was the difference a good striker would make to this team. Yes Beto had a good game yesterday, but he’s still not the answer for me. A good backup but not the main man.


Interesting moment yesterday when KDH made the break, looked up and could only see Barry in the middle, so decided to have a shot instead. Would seem the lads a good judge of character.

One thing I'll give Beto is he will chase down the keeper when others just get back into position. His hearts in the right place. Runs himself into the ground to help team and give us fans some hope.

He's got some nice finishes on him too. Out of our 2 strikers I'd not be bothered if Barry was given the boot after season ends. Seems very petulant and after what happened at Arsenal he looks to want out.
