For me Barry and Funes Mori were the best players on the pitch today, I think we've found a gem in Mori always feel more assured when he is in the team, such a good goal threat and seems a rock. Some of Barry's passes today were exquisite and unlike McCarthy (Don't get me wrong I think he is vital to the teams defensive stability) but whenever he wins the wall he always seems to want to play a quick ball forward and has a great eye for switching the play. Joel was great today.

Robles' penalty save was highlighted but I thought how he gathered a low cross from the right with a lot of confidence really shows why he should be number one. Good performance, great confidence boost for the team and us fans. Keep the good performances coming!

When we signed Funes Mori, the press couldn't wait to slate him as an overpriced player who wouldn't adapt to the Premier League.
Now, after he's played his part in some good defensive performances, the press are desperately trying to sell him by reporting that Barcelona are interested in him - even ahead of Stones.
Don't you just despair of the press and its outrageous contempt for our club?

{Ed003's Note - don't take it personal lol - they are trying to sell papers.}

21 Feb 2016 01:58:50
Ed003; Deep down I know that, but allow me - and other fans - to wallow in the feeling that the press are against us. It makes us feel good when we think there's a vendetta (admittedly imaginary! ) against us ;-)

not many on here wanted to give him chance either bin a very good signing and right now deserves his place in team.

Good result today. Into the next round and that's really all that counts in the cup.
Nice to see RM pick a strong unchanged starting eleven. Nice balance to the side - and a very strong subs bench to turn to.
Not an outstanding performance, but we were the better side. Barkley scored and always showed skill, but overhit too many through balls. Lukaku scored and had one great run (he skinned the defender) , but seemed frustrated by not getting perfect service. Joel showed why he's now our first choice keeper. Others did OK.
All very professional and - apart from McCarthy's inexplicable handball - very disciplined. Pleasing game management to see out the match at 2-0.
Great to keep clean sheet, although they had a couple of clear opportunities (the saved penalty and Gosling's header straight at the keeper) to score.
We haven't conceded yet in the cup, which is very pleasing.
Good to see Mirallas and Niasse get on, but they didn't really have enough time to really contribute and impress. They're both important for our squad in my humble opinion. Perhaps they'd have got on earlier if we'd been leading comfortably earlier.
I thought Joel's penalty save was crucial. If that had gone in, we could have had another "one of those days" - but it didn't go in, and we didn't have one of those days, and we won deservedly in the end.
Let's hope for a favourable cup draw - and in the league let's hope for improved home form/ results and continuing good away form/ results.
It's a pleasant change to feel good as an Evertonian this season - too many false dawns so far. Consistency in good performances and good results is vital from now on. RM may yet do enough to carry on beyond this season.

Nice positive post. Although niasse weren't on long, I thought he was Tidy on the ball and was always moving trying to help and make an impact. Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Mushy; Damn straight we need to deliver results against "better" sides, but a win is a win and we're through to the next round.

cropper16: Let's hope he gets another runout from the subs bench in our next match at Villa.
By any reasonable logic based on form - and even allowing for our inconsistency this season - we should be able to get into a comfortable lead against Villa and give Niasse (and Mirallas and Deulofeu) a decent amount of time off the bench.
We beat Villa 4-0 at home and the dark-side have just won 6-0 at Villa, so we just have to see our goal scorers having a field day. Anything less would be unacceptable.

Well done Robles, he took some terrible flack at the start of his arrival.
Nice to see a goalkeeper of ours totally miss the ball but give the cf one sh$t of a headache!
Good penalty save but mom for me Gareth Barry, totally committed to EFC.
Maybe wrong but no goals in cup conceded yet?
In 66 no goals till final when 0-2 but went on to win it!

Good post Mush fair play mate, I have not posted in the last few days because of the negativity, but in saying that I was one of the negative posters, from now on I'm just going to support the team win lose or draw mate and see what happens at the end of the season. COYB.

It's a nice link to previous cup-winning seasons that we've not conceded yet, but far more important in my humble opinion is that a Martinez managed side is keeping clean sheets.
Stating the obvious (! ) , but a clean sheet means we can't lose a match AND, with our attacking talent, we should score and win a match.

. can someone contact the F. A. and ask them if we can play all of our remaining league games away from home! ;)

Have yet to conceded in FA cup. In the quarter final. Penalty saved. Joel has to be number 1 keeper now.

When is the last time we got further than semi-final in League cup and quarter final in FA cup in the same year? Hopefully have a strong finish to the rest of the premiership. strong for the rest of the season.

Never looked in doubt that we would win this one. Every player did what was asked if them when called upon. Lukaku is on 21 goals and would simply walk into any side in the prem. He's so deadly in front of goal. We're in a good position having a 20+ goal a season striker at such a young age.

Barkley is so exciting to watch. Yes a bit frustrating on times when he makes the wrong choice, but it's easy to see all the options sitting where we do. But he delivers almost all the time.

Jags is solid and Mori is his best partner.

Robles saved a pen!

Absolutely chuffed with the result and can't wait for the draw. So maybe WBA was a one off on an exciting run. Nice well earned trip to Dubai for the lads for some hot weather training. Keep it going lads

COYB.

20 Feb 2016 23:20:03
Who really apart from Barkley takes a chance in the middle of the pitch everyone plays safe safe safe safe we get nowhere and he talks a chance because no one else will, he needs to work on his final at times but it's easy to get annoyed by the only player willing to not just go sideways.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Feb 2016 19:31:18
To those slagging off Lakaku, please look at what he has to play against. Always has two or three players around him because we don't play a second striker. And yet he still scores goals. Just give the guy a break and look at what he has to work with before moaning about him.

Believable5 Unbelievable1

20 Feb 2016 19:51:18
Agreed. Niasse looks bigger than I thought. maybe the answer. But RM won't do it.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Feb 2016 22:07:42
Maybe woburn but he can't just stand still with two or three players around him that just makes their job simple. if he moved across the line he would be dragging them with him making space for Ross and other late runners to get in, forward play isn't just about sticking it in the back of the net when the perfect ball is played or the defenders have a lapse in concentration, when he sorts that out he will score 30-35 a season.

20 Feb 2016 23:23:53
It's ok saying that al but let's face it were so reluctant to feed the ball foward he moves and gives up because the ball never comes then he has to come short to get involved apart from the rare quick one over the top.

I know it is difficult but try going to the games mate. The majority of us that have a go, have a go at the Manager not the side and not at individual players. I am on record as saying Roberto is a coach not a Manager and not the Manager for us, that will never change.

So away from Home we play up the pitch with in this case Barkley in close attendance to Lukaku. Can someone please explain to me why oh why every home game (except Sunderland) this numpty has us playing a counter attacking game.

20 Feb 2016 23:25:35
Did you go the game against wba we weren't playing counter attack at all we had them boxed in for 90 mins.

20 Feb 2016 18:21:49
Halftime observations:

Barkley and Lukaku play on different planets. No chemistry up front. That is the managers fault.

Lukaku needs a 2nd center forward with him. He is no one man army like Rat Boy.

Cash in on Lukaku or Barkely in the summer

No one is throwing decent crosses in there

Too bad we don't get a goal for 20 completed passes in a row.

Old Man Distan looks good. Always liked him, goes RM didn't like independent minded professionals second guessing him.

We need a new 2nd keeper this summer to back up Joel.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

20 Feb 2016 19:15:39
Okay. new plan.

I will label 2-3 players as bums who should be sold for a 12 pack of Budweiser and they will score for us.

Good to see Distan smiling (and Everton winning)

Announcer said Lukaku likes being alone out there. I disagree.

All of our passing is around the half way line. We give teams so much time to get back that we make it really difficult to break down. We are capable of playing forward so much quicker than we are.
