Well, well, well. James has been left out of the Colombia squad for Copa America and WC qualifiers. Guess when you decide to save yourself and only play football every other week you aren't at match sharpness for international duty. Backfired for him.

Tmh

1.) 28 May 2021 22:18:26
He pulled out himself Tmh.

Reports suggesting we are set to sell barkley to city in order to fund an overhaul of the squad. Not sure myself but I'd take 50 mil for Barkley, I don't see him improving much tbh, imagine what we could do with that money. But i'm sure Martinez would just buy the rest of the wigan squad and then tthe name Wigan Athletic while he's at it.

Tmh

1.) If Barkley goes, I go. I was born blue and have remain true for close to forty years, but if the club is prepared to throw away another future star for short term gain, they don't respect the fans, the history of the club or its long term future. If they can not show any loyalty to the fans, why should I continue to follow.

2.) I can't believe fans want to sell barkley what's going on best talent since gazza and it would kill me to see this young evertonion playing for any other club if we want to win things we need to keep our best players

3.) City would have to sell to buy because of financial fair play, and they need a striker, not a midfielder. I also think we as a club would be expecting a huge transfer fee, and I don't think there will be many of those til summer. I don't want to lose Ross, but I didn't want to lose Rooney, and I feel we improved with the money we got for him, one player doesn't make a team, we need money to improve, and without new investment/owner, selling is our only way forward.

4.) There may be a hidden agenda here with the Wigan connection. Fill the squad with Wigan players and ex manager, get relegated, then play home games for next 2 years at the DW stadium. Sell the top value players and use the income to finance rebuild of Goodison Park rather than move elsewhere. It's only meant as a jovial thought in case anyone thinks I am serious but makes one think.

5.) 04 Jan 2015 17:04:26
I know let's swap Barkley for the KC stadium, because that's all we will fill if we keep selling our young talent.

6.) 04 Jan 2015 21:55:24
Not saying I want to be the new Wigan just saying that's the way the club is heading, also that martinez has been a prat with his signings bar McCarthy, Besic and Barry(on loan, not permanent) .

09 Jul 2014 04:35:03
Hey lads anyone know if we had to pay the 2.5 mil to city that was being reported prior to the signing?

Tmh

{Ed025's Note - we had to pay £2m tmh, it was a clause that if his loan became permanent a fee would be paid to city mate..

1.) It makes you wonder what the delay was if we've ended up paying the fee and given GB a three-year contract.
I reckon our negotiating team - especially BK - make sure we squeeze every financial advantage out of every transfer deal.

2.) That does seem to be a bit of a strange agreement to me, unless of course City were making a sizeable contribution to the lad's wages during the last year of his deal and were merely trying to recoup some. I can't believe the penny watcher BK would've paid all his wages AND agreed a fee for an out of contract player should he sign permanently. Swings and roundabouts.

11 May 2014 18:01:26
Que Liverpool fans blaming Everton

Tmh

1.) It's entirely their own fault, but if they want to give us credit for depriving them of the league, that's fine by me :)

17 Jan 2014 23:32:22
Alfred finnbogason looks absolute class!

He is a complete striker he can and does score headers, free kicks, penalties, inside the box, outside the box (basically wherever he wants)
He is very skilful, and reacts to situations very quickly and cooly. Also 58 goals in 62 games is quite an incredible statistic.
Do hope we snap him up would be an amazing signing.

Have any clue on what herenveen where asking for him ed?

Tmh

{Ed025's Note - around £6m TMH, looks good to me as well mate..

1.) 6 million sounds like a great price.

2.) Being prolific in Holland doesn't mean he will be good anywhere else. Afonso Alves was the most complete player in the world based on his performances in Holland; absolute shambles in the premier league. I'm not sayin he'll flop, because you can never tell, but don't be too disappointed when we probably don't get him.

3.) Finnbogason has been taken under the wing of Marco Van Basten, who has developed him brilliantly since signing him. Some might say that he's not good enough because his current form is a fluke, as he was rubbish previously, but I believe the opposite, that to go from a headless chicken, no footed orange cutter one year, to a 40+ goal striker the next that something has clicked in the players head. Aaron Ramsey has been hit with negative press about his ability countless times in the past, but with the form he's been in this season is now regarded really highly and almost any club would want him.

I know Xg stats aren’t everyones interest, so stop reading here if so. But for those interested:

We’re now at an Xg underperformance of 18.1, absolute insanity. The second biggest underperformers are Chelsea, their underperformance… 8.1. How on earth are we this bad at taking chances.

The leagues most clinical side (greatest Xg overperformers) are Arsenal with an Xg over performance of 8.4. This means there is about the same difference in Xg over-under performance between the 19th worst finishers (Chelsea) and the best finishers (Arsenal) , as there is between us in 20th and Chelsea in 19th. Absolutely unreal.

If it weren’t for our solid defending (4th best in terms of Goals Against and Xg against) , we would be absolutely in the mud.

Some may disagree with me here, but for me Sean Dyche is responsible for the system and approach that affords the players the best chance to win each game. It’s the players responsibility to put that ball in the net. We obviously aren’t lacking the chances created under Dyche’s system nor the strong defensive numbers, but my god are we being let down in front of goal by our forwards.

I know points on the board and goals in the net are what truly matters, but these underlying numbers do show that Dyche system is not leaving our forwards to “feed off scraps” as many seem to suggest. We are just truly the worst finishers in the league.

All I can hope is that for the next month or so Dyche and his staff rip up their training ground plans and only run bloody finishing drills.

There’s hope blues, and I do think we get out of this under Dyche.

(All Xg stats from Understat, but note that different models for calculating Xg may vary slightly. The overall points and trends I point out do remain true regardless of where you get your Xg stats from though)

Tmh

1.) 05 Mar 2024 00:25:39
Sorry, typing this out late at night and made a slight blunder. The difference between us and Chelsea is about 10 Xg underperformance, and there is about a 16 Xg difference in under-over performance between Chelsea and Arsenal.

It’s more like the difference between us as the worst finishers 20th for underperformance of Xg and the next worst in 19th for underperformance. Is the same as the difference between under-over performance between 19th and about 5th.

In any case, the intention was to highlight just how far behind the pack we are in terms of the quality of our chance taking.

2.) 05 Mar 2024 07:03:22
? Run that by me again ?.

3.) 05 Mar 2024 07:27:31
TMH old school me mate, I can see with my own eyes where we are good and where crap. Football (soccer) is not a static game (NFL) needing charts notebooks tablets etc! In the end all stats do is tell us what we already know.

4.) 05 Mar 2024 07:51:30
In simpler terms, we cannot finish the chances we create, we are neither skilled enough or clinical enough. SD cannot finish the chances himself, and his set up leads to these chances being created, albeit in a style that’s not too pleasing on the eye. You’d like to think that we will click at some point, but I’m not that confident.

5.) 05 Mar 2024 14:38:29
On Saturday the crowd was dead, all the spirit knocked out of them, and couldn’t do anything to lift the team.
I’m not saying it’s on us, as those£100k a week players are the ones that kick the ball, but we just look completely done this time.
Exhausted and not even that bothered if we go down.
Maybe for the best.

6.) 05 Mar 2024 16:37:57
Relegation is never for the best. As for crowd lifting the players. It’s about time these so called professional players put in a shift to lift the crowd.
After all you don’t go to watch a play and stand up and read the lines your self. Getting really tired of people blaming supporters, were feckin burnt out, and we pay for the privilege.

7.) 05 Mar 2024 17:04:55
As soon as the tempo rised and we played 3 or 4 quick passes, the crowd were up. I’m not cheering long balls and misplaced passes.

{Ed025's Note - to be fair JB sean cant win, at 1-1 we really went for it and committed more players forward, that meant defensively we were a bit stretched mate, mind you we should have been 3 up before that..

8.) 05 Mar 2024 21:08:02
That’s been the case all season really, Ed. SD has probably done as well as can be expected with the squad we have. Most of us would have taken the points we should have on the board at this stage of the season., and we should have more. I can accept the reality of the situation, but I don’t want our final season at Goodison or our first season in our new stadium to bear witness to the dross we’re watching currently.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that JB mate..

Here’s my 11 lads:
Beto/ DCL
Doucs
McNeil Onana Garber Iwobi
Young Branthwaite Tarks Patterson
Pickford

Gives us: Beto/ DCL, Chermiti, Danjuma, Coleman, Gueye, Dobbin (though I’d probably send him on loan) all off the bench.

Feeling much more positive blues!

Tmh

1.) 30 Aug 2023 07:10:30
For me it's got to be

Beto
Dobbin

McNeil garner onana danjuma
Young branthwaite tarks Patterson
Pickford.

2.) 30 Aug 2023 08:05:28
What has DCL given us in 3 years? I am talking about the player not personal. The reliance and obsession with the lad has heavily influenced our striker recruitment. 3 games in 3 losses, Chermiti (one for the future) , Beto won't be ready for Sheff United. Some serious commonsense thinking needs to be done by Dyche and his coaching staff. How about playing players in their natural positions for a start.

3.) 30 Aug 2023 08:55:33
DFS, you can blame the lad for not playing due to constant injuries all you like but that's the easy option. Our medical team has to shoulder a lot of the blame, along with previous managers, for bringing him back before he was ready several times. We haven't replied upon him for three years as he has been out for majority of that time. If there is any blame to be apportioned then it lays at the feet of the owner, the board and the DoF for not bringing in a decent striker in the transfer windows before now. They have played Russian roulette with our premier league status for a couple of years.

4.) 30 Aug 2023 09:43:22
Mine is when everyone is fit:

Pickford
patterson tarks jarad myky
danjuma garner gueye iwobi mcneil
beto/ dcl?

bench joao young coleman godfrey decoure dobin/ harrison chemiti dcl/ beto onana

much better than i thought we would have at the beginning of the season.

5.) 30 Aug 2023 10:59:44
My 11

Beto or dcl
Danjuma

Harrison onana garner mc niel
Young tark jarad patterson
Pickford.

6.) 30 Aug 2023 12:28:51
I do like the idea of Danjuma CAM Evo, could cause some serious damage playing off the big CF.

7.) 30 Aug 2023 12:59:04
If they send Dobbin out on loan, the moons a balloon.

8.) 30 Aug 2023 13:52:29
My 11
Southall
Stevens
Mountfield
Ratcliffe
Van den hauwe
Reid
Bracewell
Sheedy
Stevens
Sharp
Heath

Sub
Gray.

24 Aug 2023 19:56:07
Pretty rough injury list: DCL, Iwobi, McNeil, and Harrison all start when fully fit for me. that's over 1/ 3rd of the starting 11 out :/ . Who do we even line-up with Saturday?
Maupay
Danjuma Doucs Garner
Gueye Onana
Young Tarks Braithwaite Patterson
Pickford

That the best we can do with what we've got available? God that bench is going to be thin.

Tmh

1.) 24 Aug 2023 20:27:17
Don’t think we will miss Iwobi that much mate.

2.) 24 Aug 2023 21:25:11
He won't play Branthwaite, Keane it will be. There is a mentality issue in the squad aswell when you read comments such as Tarks on Maupay.

3.) 24 Aug 2023 21:48:56
From that lineup I'd drop gueye, Garner alongside Onana and start Dobbin.

4.) 24 Aug 2023 22:45:24
Add them to the injured list and that’s our whole squad.

29 May 2023 15:58:10
Now we’re safe, can we do some wish listing. We definitely need a new striker (or two) , fullback, CB (with Coady and Mina leaving) , and CM. I think probably in that order of priority too. Not sure on the CB, be curious to hear who you would all like. But for the other positions:

ST: Gyokeres and Vardy. I know Vardy is past his best, but with DCL’s fitness such an issue, we could certainly do a lot worse than Vardy as a backup to Gyokeres.

Fullback: Kyle Walker Peters, can play both sides comfortably.

CM: JWP, unbelievable set piece taker. Without him I’m not sure Southampton would have even got a single point this season.

Bonus: Harvey Barnes, 13 goals and 1 assist in 34 league games is pretty fantastic in that Leicester side.

Any other thoughts blues?

Tmh

1.) 29 May 2023 16:42:28
Think Gyokeres as got to be our top target. I'd buy Coady if rumoured 4million is true, love get Barnes and JWP but think other clubs will be able offer better deals, we have a decent crop of youngsters who hopefully Dyche can trust. Hopefully Jarrad back and looks like going to need be shrewd in Free transfer Market and certainly use our loans better. Read Arsenal looking get rid of smith Rowe, he would be someone we could get, relatively cheap and perhaps a obligation to buy loan. Neat and tidy. Wouldn't be surprised if we get linked to Weghorst too tbh. Don't expect too much to happen in terms of high spend, we need be clever and get a good squad of grafters and players that want be at our club and try consolidate and create a better atmosphere in and around the club.

2.) 29 May 2023 17:20:23
Vardy? Are you serious?
He’s 36 years old and if he was that good these days surely Leicester wouldn’t have done down.
We need to stop offering players at the end of their careers contracts

Gykores would be a very good purchase only 24 and has cut his teeth in the championship and looks like he could step up - however I’d imagine there’d be several clubs in for him and can’t imagine our last 2 seasons of flirting with relegation will be much of a pull.

3.) 29 May 2023 17:22:55
I find it hard to think about new signings without having a clue about available funds. We obviously need more quality, we’ll be in the same position next season without it. But I can’t see how we can be signing players like Barnes or any of the others mentioned. Hope I’m wrong.

4.) 29 May 2023 17:30:43
Gykores for me not Vardy tooooooooooold.

5.) 29 May 2023 17:52:19
That’s us ‘told’.

6.) 29 May 2023 19:04:53
Any of the following

Gykores a must
Harrison from Leeds
Sulemana (base this on one good performance against lfc but liked what I saw! )
Rodrigo from Leeds?

7.) 29 May 2023 19:26:03
Whomever we sign I just hope for ONCE we get deals done early window. Not well after preseason or even after the season starts as we are so notorious with….

8.) 29 May 2023 21:39:03
Unless the board go Tmh, I don’t see that happening.

I don’t see any signings to be honest.

9.) 29 May 2023 21:49:55
Lewis Warrington will be in and around the first team next season, i guarantee you. He’s got a very bright future and had a good season on loan at fleetwood. He’ll be like a new signing imo. Tom Cannon, ditto.

Reece Welch is another player that I hope may be ready to make the step up. He’s got everything, from what I’ve seen of him, needed to be a top player. It’s just whether it my be a bit soon for him to step up.

A right back and a left back are essential, as well as a central defender of real quality - who, I don’t know!

We all that a striker is imperative. A main number 9 that we can rely on and DCL becomes back up for. Would be great competition for a place up top with him breathing down your neck for a starting place.

05 Apr 2023 17:29:47
Here goes. My predictions for the final 9 games:
Man Utd (a) L
Fulham (H) W
Palace (a) D
Newcastle (H) D
Leicester (a) W
Brighton (a) L
Man City (H) L
Wolves (a) D
Bournemouth (H) W

That would have us finishing on 39 pts. Did one of those premier league results/ table predictors (with a bunch of bias I’m sure, but tried my best) and that had.

Tmh

1.) 05 Apr 2023 17:47:16
(excuse my fat thumbs accidentally submitting) . had us surviving comfortably.

2.) 05 Apr 2023 17:48:14
Man Utd haven’t scored in the league since Feb apparently so I’m hoping for a point from that one ☝️.

3.) 05 Apr 2023 17:49:52
AI predictor FiveThirtyEight has us finishing 17th on 36 points, surviving on goal difference. They give us a 38% chance of relegation. Guess I have a little more confidence in us than our AI overlords.

4.) 05 Apr 2023 19:44:57
Man Utd game I have as a loss for us. At this stage I would take Tmh if a certainty. My own feeling is 4 Clubs finishing below us based on those 4 currently having an inferior gial difference. Would love to see West Ham lose tonight.

Agree with Wakka and Lamps here. It’s no wonder he would want out with this kind of toxicity. Wouldn’t blame him. Cut the man a break, he’s had a brutal injury hit season and come into a side that’s battling relegation under a new manager. Not exactly the easiest conditions for him to perform. While he’s an Everton player, we need to back him. I don’t understand why so many insist on bringing our players further down when they need uplifting. Of course, comments and criticism are valid and deserved, but there’s no need for them to devolve into personal attacks.

Not all of that money goes towards transfers. There's a lot more to running a club then buying players. But I'm not going to pretend I know anymore about financing a football club than any other fan.

Doucs was excellent in that role against Wolves tbf SB. But, I do agree, we've lacked a proper #10 since the likes of Siggy and James. We've had some top CAM's in the past though: Fellaini, Cahill, Arteta, Osman, to name a few.

Looks a decent squad and first XI when all available. Certainly on paper doesn’t look like a relegated side. I am rather optimistic after today’s performance. Doucs was ridiculously good, deserved a goal if not for a fingernail offside. Danjuma looked strong, especially on the wing which will be great if we can get Beto in to occupy the middle. Braithwaite, finally in the squad and was excellent for me today. Many positives to take, the points will start rolling in soon. Bring on Sheffield!

Too early to be putting Dyche in the worst ever. Come on now, his avg points from when he came in last season if extended across 38 games sees us survive comfortably on 44 points (matching Chelsea in 12th) . Look at the squad the man is working with, and he has been given no money to improve it. Comes into a club in free fall and is told "Oh yeah you know that £50 mil we got for selling your best winger, you're getting none of that, in fact we will sign no one. "

How you haven't included Frank Lampard on that list is baffling. Give Dyche a minute. If the club goes out and actually buys him some players and he can't turn this club around, then sure lay into him. But any manager would have their hands tied with the dross that is our squad.

Tmh

{Ed025's Note - I agree Tmh..
