Onana should never be allowed to take another penalty after that disgrace of an effort last night. Pick a spot and put your foot through it, it's hardly rocket science .

He took a penalty in a penalty shootout and missed it happens the lad is young and will learn from the experience. He certainly doesn't deserve the abuse he's been getting from certain quarters. Some people in the street end need to have a word with themselves.

Yeah, when I saw the run up I just knew he was going to miss. If you’re not the best penalty taker, just pick a spot and put your foot through it, if the keeper saves it then I could live with that. But to pee roller it to the keeper ??‍♂️ just hope Fulham don’t get drawn with Middlesbrough as I’ll feel it was a massive opportunity missed.

He knows he did wrong. Didn't look confident when stepping up in 1st place. But he took it, made a mistake and we move on. He won't be 1st or last player to take a terrible penalty. The kid works his socks off and is important player. I've seen some so called fans on other sites saying he shouldn't play for club again. Absolute madness to say that.

Agree Ed025. Kids getting slated all over social media. For me, Onana and Garner should be our main midfielders. Yeah we are out of the cup and it was a good chance to get to a final, but it's not to be. History dictates we are crap in league cup anyway. Still the F. A cup and most importantly, the league to concentrate on.

League is the bread and butter. A cup run is nice as it can keep momentum. Just hope we aren't nervy against spurs and we continue to push on. I think DCL should be rested too. Was great under anchalotti where he was told to just get in the box and wait for service. Unfortunately HD doesn't have that now. If Doucs is injured next game I'd put Harrison attacking midfield and Dobbin on right wing. Let them get to by line and cross instead of cutting in onto favoured foot like Harrison mostly does. Think DCL could benefit from that.

Garner as our main set piece taker should have been in the 5 takers. Was a crap pen, but not reflective of whether or not he’s a good player, just never do it again. Unfortunately, you get halfwits at every football ground.

I'm not giving the lad pelters here and I agree that the abuse is both disgusting and unnecessary, but that penalty was shocking. Leno could have had a hamlet cigar, leaning against the other post and still save such a dismal effort.
If he wasn't confident before his penalty then why was he taking the last spot kick?
I know that gueye missed his penalty, I watched the game! But that's not the point of this post, blue5050. You don't go 5th penalty and then pea roll it like that in the QF of any cup game. I wouldn't be bothered if he hit the post, it went wide or the keeper saved it. Someone has to lose which is why we go to the lottery of penalties. But at least show that you're arsed, that you want to drag your team over the line to get to a semi-final.
I stand my my original comment, Onana should never take a penalty for us again after that effort! I will reiterate that anyone handing out abuse to him is an absolute clown and should wind their necks in.

He’s tried to get the keeper to go early and roll it in. That’s what many players do now. Looks awful when it doesn’t come off. Being confident does not guarantee you’ll score. At least he’s put himself forward, unlike Garner it would seem.

One of those things. Bad pen but bit of credit to Leno. he threw Onana off by not committing early and allowing him to roll it to the "empty" side. He clearly didn't want or mean to miss, just one of those things.
Hopefully he won't get too much grief and will continue to go from strength to strength as a player for us.

He tried to be clever with his penalty and the keeper read it to make an easy save. It's done now, if Leno had dived and it rolled over the line we would all be singing his praises for being so cool and calm. Onana has all the attributes to be a quality midfielder and I hope we can hold onto him for many years yet as he's going to get better as he gets more experience and becomes more consistent.

Now I have personally calmed down, yes he was flippin stupid and out of order, here's the thing it was obviously an ad lib because SD is very much a serious hands-on manager with set plays, so I would bet that he regrets it big time.
