I believe that a mass chop and change has to take place at the club in the summer. This season simply hasn't been good enough and one of the reasons for that is we have too little quality in the squad, we have way to many ageing players. This would be my Ideal Summer:
Goalkeepers:
Sell - Howard & Joel for a combined £5m
Sign - Orjan Nayland £3m & Neto Free
Centre Backs:
Sell - Distin & Alcaras Frees
Sign - Rannochia Free & Umtiti £15m
Left Backs:
Sell - Leighton Baines £20m
Right Backs:
Sign - Richards Free
Centre Mids:
Sell - Gareth Barry £2m
Sign - Yohan Cabaye £10m
Wingers:
Sell - Pienaar £2m McGeady £3m Mirralas £20m Let Atsu go back to Chelsea
Sign - Konoplayanka Free Ayew Free Rafa Silva £15m Baeuvue £4m
Strikers:
Sign - Mitrovic £15m
Sales: £52m
Signings: £62m
Meaning only £10 million spent out of our budget and a team good enough of challenging for Europe again!

The agent fees involved in that would cripple Manchester City, never mind the wages!

Remember free isn't free you are committed to paying over the top wages for usually a long contract of 3, 4 or 5 years. Barry is an example. Plus the signing on fee is usually a few million as well and they also usually get a loyalty bonus that is extortionate and a few other add-ons.

At most we can get away with maybe 3 or 4 signings that add quality and maybe 2 others to replace some that are leaving.

Wont get anything for Barry mate as he would want his high wage still
Mirallas max 15 million
Baines max 12 million
I would keep Howard for another season as back up

A little bit too much 'football manager'. We do need an overhaul but signing 11 new players is too many in one go. We'd be lucky to get £20m together for Baines and Mirallas never mind each. I would say they are around £8m each.

I agree that we could do with a clear out but doubt we'll sell/release that many players from the squad.
I also think you have overpriced a few of our players, Baines £8m, Barry-Free, Pienaar-Free, Mirallas £10-12m

Lol not lookin for much are you

If only it was that simple.

The trouble with mass changes on that scale is that you end up like QPR or Sunderland, so many new faces that the manager hasn't a clue which is the best eleven until easter.

Realistically the manager will not go! the only outs are likely to be Distin retired, Howard possible move to the USA, Garbutt may not want to play second choice at left back and I think Pienaar may be allowed to leave, meaning the rest will stay.
Barry had a new contract last season as did Mcgeady.
Mirralas it seems is the only other who it seems wants to leave.
