Ed 002 (especially) , please don't castigate me too greatly for speculating baselessly, but given what you all know of the mindset of the board and the key players, is there any possibility being given to dispensing with Allardyce and moving on Silva now, as opposed to the summer? (if indeed Silva remains well thought of) .

Big DFs 1000 Yard Stare

{Ed002's Note - To the best of my knowledge the board are not looking to move SA and CS on at this time. As for Marco Silva, he is speaking to another English side right now so I would not hold your breath.}

1.) 05 Feb 2018 19:07:52
I don’t want Silva. He either got totally distracted by our interest or he completely lost the plot. Either way there’s something not right there.

2.) 05 Feb 2018 20:03:40
Ed002.I have heard that SA is astonished at the mental strength of our first team, which requires addressing but surely the recruitment/ management of the purchases is a huge issue. Is to your knowledge Steve Welshe's position under review in anyway as he clearly is no DOF?

{Ed002's Note - Honestly, I keep having to answer the same questions over and over - please read the posts, use the search engine.}

3.) 05 Feb 2018 22:19:20
Equally cursed and blessed then. Cheers Ed002, much obliged.

Was just wondering, apart from the usual mission statements and Meis workshops (which do seem a while back now) , I've yet to see anything that speaks to the use of the ground in Bramley-Moore other than, let's have a stadium complemented by mixed developments, and aesthetic regeneration of the area along the Mersey.

Reason I ask this is I read an article months back analysing an apparent intent for us to model development along MCFC lines (albeit one more restrained in its spending on players, given the overall increase in individual player value) ; the lot - infrastructure, credit, business modelling.

Soooo, anyone heard anything about whether FF might be relocated?

If Silva is insistent on 3 at the back, with, say, Digne and Seamus lining up on the flanks, who'd we want in the middle? I'd say Jags isn't mobile enough, Keane's too inconsistent, and Williams shouldn't even be considered. Personally, I love the idea of Holgate. Is he ready though?

Big DFs 1000 Yard Stare

1.) 31 Jul 2018 19:25:14
I think he didn't look out of place last year.

2.) 31 Jul 2018 20:52:04
I'm hoping that Holgate gets plenty of chances this season. Believe he's a decent defender in the making and has a bit of pace.
Same goes for Calvert Lewin up front. I rate him too.

3.) 31 Jul 2018 21:02:45
I agree with you there Tedster. Both have shown good maturity at such young starts. Hopefully both will get run outs this season and push on.

4.) 31 Jul 2018 21:14:07
Think 4-3-3 is his preferred system.

5.) 31 Jul 2018 21:17:14
Sure he said he prefers 4-3-3 formation.

6.) 31 Jul 2018 22:43:10
I think he means 3 at the back, 2 CBs with the full backs pushing on and a defensive type sweeper in front of them.

7.) 31 Jul 2018 23:17:08
I could be wrong but I think Lucas Digne has played CB in the past so if Silva did wish to play 3 at the back he could put a shift in
But you do think his preferred formation is 4-3-3.

8.) 01 Aug 2018 07:16:48
That was my understanding too, Smit, and the reason why he makes such an issue of having a DM such as (noooooooooo! ) Schneiderlein to augment.

As Blue and BeStyrne point out, if it is 4 at the back, the pursuit of a left sided centre-half (Mina? ) and left-back (Digne) would make more sense.

Ok, being realistic, let's going to take more than one window to offload the apparent 12 to be culled. Given that, I think we need to focus therefore on jettisoning the following, realised via fire-sale and / or paying a proportion of wages / on loan if needs be:

- Williams (a walking catastrophe it pains me to say)
- Mirallas (a petulant and inconsistent prima donna, particularly since Moyes left)
- Schneiderlein (scandalous lack of effort in the first half of the season not to be forgotten)
- Martina (simply not good enough)
- Robles (happy with Stek as back-up and promotion from U23s for the time being)
- Bolasie (a lovely smile and delightful; personality does not make up for a lack of final product)
-Sandro (if he wants out and is settled in Spain, I see no point in forcing him to stay. also struck me as a somewhat of a lightweight headless chicken)
- Klaassen (suspect a fresh start is needed by all concerned.

Given what we're facing and the absolute need to determination, togetherness and a strong work-ethic, I'd retain those players that might not play a part beyond this season, but who can offer something here and now. That would include Rooney, Niasse, Jags, Baines, Besic, Funes Mori.

Lookman must start and I'd like to see Vlasic in the squad come August. Dowell to be given a chance this season, Colgate restored and DCL given less starts and greater opportunity to study and mature on the bench - we expected far too much of him last season.

Signings? A LB (although the American kid looks tasty) , 1, preferably 2 CBs, a mercurial AM and a forward capable of plundering 20 a season. Not much to ask, haha!

Big DFs 1000 Yard Stare

1.) 06 Jun 2018 14:06:30
Don't disagree with much you say but would move Rooney, Besic, Niasse and Funes Mori to the to go list purely because we won't be able to get rid of all of them

Rooney and Funes Mori I think want to go, Niasse hasn't the skill levels we require and Besic, I like but I think we are going to get in one, maybe two better.

2.) 06 Jun 2018 15:47:37
Im sure we will get a large number of the 12 of the books.

3.) 06 Jun 2018 15:57:14
Niasse should be 1st out of the door. People want him to stay because of his bad treatment and then are blinded by what he offers which is very very little. He severely lacks skill, runs around like a headless chicken and his goals scored are very scruffy, more luck that they go in than anything.
He is a long way from PL standard and should be shipped out asap to put an end to this sentimentality we seem to have for him.

4.) 06 Jun 2018 17:08:18
Spot on Worcester. Not a top six striker and still at the club because of sentiment. No room for that if you want to win stuff.

5.) 06 Jun 2018 17:13:54
I would personally keep the 3 strikers we have got and build around them. A winger, a CM, a CB and a LB. Maybe an AM as well. Then I think the season after this one we should be in a better position the capture the right striker. From the list of outs I would keep jags and ship the rest out. Klassen on loan for me. Lascelles as the CB.

6.) 07 Jun 2018 06:59:39
Niasse scores some good and important goal, the scruffy lucky ones were due to his persistence and work rate, I would keep him as back up sort of player you want coming on for the last 20/ 15 mins if we are up against it.

7.) 07 Jun 2018 11:05:12
He was in the squad because he can score goals. He works harder than anyone and seems to lift those around him. As third choice, I would keep him. Makes no sense to put Tosun and Dom third choice striker. What do you reccomend we buy a third choice striker or buy two and loan Dom out?

8.) 07 Jun 2018 11:59:42
I disagree. What happens of Tosun gets injured? Do we rely on DCL as our only striker?
Sandro isn't coming back, Rooney is off to sun it up in America so I don't see any issue with keeping him until January at least. Also Niasse is the only striker who has played in Silvas pressing style before.
Let's not do a Lukaku or Barry and get rid before we have a settled replacement.

Eds, what are your views on Celtic's Dembele, and are you aware of any overtures made by Everton?
Am a big fan, think he's more than capable of making the move south.

Big DFs 1000 Yard Stare

{Ed007's Note - He's a cracking player and is only going to get better. I don't know of any Everton interest now but there was for the January window when you were sniffing about and asked ex-Celtic scout David Moss for his advice/opinion.
He's got two years left on his current deal and Celtic would like him to extend it (I think that's only to make sure if he stays another season he won't be going into the final year) but I would be surprised if he would see Everton a viable option without CL football.
Dembele and his advisers seem to have their feet on the ground and he won't just move for money, any club that has shown interest or spoke to him have been put off by his demands of guaranteed first-team football, that's why Celtic managed to sign him over EPL clubs when he left Fulham, we told him he would be the main man for us.}

1.) 01 Jun 2018 18:42:03
Think he would be a star in our new attacking team. We should be attractive to players of his quality age and ambition. Think batshayui would be a amazing signing should go all out for one of them two.

2.) 01 Jun 2018 18:49:06
he won't join a smaller club.

3.) 01 Jun 2018 14:51:31
Thanking you kindly Bond, James Bond (gawd, that's weak, I'll see myself out) .

Refreshing to hear there are young players out there willing to sacrifice cash for love of the game, then again I doubt he's penniless. just out of interest any idea what he's on cash-wise?

{Ed007's Note - Don't worry that's better patter than Ed025's :) Dembele won't be on great wages up here compare to what he was offered in England our top players are 'only' on £25-30k p.w and as far as I know Dembele is in the £18-22k bracket but there is supposedly bonuses on top of that.}

More I think about it, the more I'm thinking Cocu might be the wisest choice.

Lets be honest, a crazy amount of change at the club already - which we've all demanded - and more likely to come in terms of personnel (aside from bringing back Dowell, Lookman, and, yes, Basic, I think we need to make at least 5 signings, maybe more if we ship out more than Williams, Martina, Schneiderlein, Bolasie, Mirallas. All in all all, a lot of change to contend with, especially before, during and after a World Cup. We could be restructuring at a better time.

Given all that, I think taking Brands and Cocu pay off. The former's been able to source players that have thrived in all the European leagues and together they're proven winners. 3 league title shows an innate understanding and ability to function. Yes, its the Eredivisie and neither have Premier League experience, but Dutch football is by no means dominated by a hegemonic-Paris-Saint-Germain-type outfit. They've clearly got it in them to achieve, and its not as if Cocu doesn't have a name in world football.

Whilst he'd have my support from the get-go, and I won't feel queasy every time I glanced at the dugout, I have doubts about Silva. Not as a tactician but possibly (sorry Marco) as a bloke.

Too many moves already for me - he's only 40 -and his head was obviously turned (to fairly negative effect) when we went in for him at Watford: I've never liked the overweeningly ambitious. I want ambition and modernity but balanced against a fine tuned sense of loyalty and commitment. An established working relationship with our DoF would most definitely foster that. Immediately.

1.) 27 May 2018 21:53:41
Unless we get a manager that is currently not tied to a club, then we are asking disloyalty from them. It’s a bit rich then to expect any back.

Were we disloyal to Sam, Ron and Roberto by ending their contracts early? Was Moyes disloyal by not disclosing his plan to leave us to go to Man United?

The sooner we learn to expect little in the way of loyalty from managers and players alike, the less disappointments we will have.

Silva is the norm nowadays, sadly.

2.) 28 May 2018 11:18:05
It was well known within the club that Moyes would leave for the ManU job. I was told at a works conference by an employee, a year before he left, that it was his dream job and the only other club in the PL he would consider leaving Everton for.

3.) 28 May 2018 12:43:18
Yet he openly said that he would discuss his contract renewal at the end of the season, knowing he was going elsewhere. As I’ve always said with Moyes, I’ve never had a problem with him leaving, just the manner in which he left.

{Ed025's Note - the only problem i has with him leaving ace is that it should have been 3 years earlier mate..

4.) 28 May 2018 13:52:11
Well said ed 025 :-) I actually thought 2 before that as well lol.

Do you think any appointment will be made this week?

Makes sense, Scoundrel.

I dreamt last night (nothing biblical or of an ejaculatory nature) of Celtic's Dembele, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Lascelles revealing themselves to us (again, no debauched pun intended) .

We've the speed we've got in the team I don't suggest signing anyone that makes others jealous. Think Matlock might be the boy to shore up our defence.

Big New: Eds may correct me, but given Kroenke's position as a majority shareholder I believe he might be obliged to offer other shareholders the opportunity to sell, and in turn increase his own level of control. Might be Usmanov's way out if indeed he is looking to divest.

Its fine to comment on his HAVING bipolar, but to chortle because of it? Nah, matey.

I cannot believe for a single moment anyone in their right mind would look to offload him. I'm in my 40s now and been bludgeoned into pragmatism by the attrition of life, so appreciate the need to drastically cut the wage bill, but to dispose of such a prospect would be both maddening and madness: on the rare occasions he's been given the chance to work the ball he's been electric, and now further vindication via a successful stint in the Bundesliga.

My only real fear (given everything Brands and Silva have said about the need to work with young players / the intent to first appraise the entire squad) is Lookman himself might want out, disillusioned by his treatment thus far.

Big DFs 1000 Yard Stare

{Ed002's Note - Lookman wants to play and he won't necessarily get that opportunity at Everton. The loan has worked out really well for him and there is interest from several clubs.}
