If Silva is insistent on 3 at the back, with, say, Digne and Seamus lining up on the flanks, who'd we want in the middle? I'd say Jags isn't mobile enough, Keane's too inconsistent, and Williams shouldn't even be considered. Personally, I love the idea of Holgate. Is he ready though?

I think he didn't look out of place last year.

I'm hoping that Holgate gets plenty of chances this season. Believe he's a decent defender in the making and has a bit of pace.
Same goes for Calvert Lewin up front. I rate him too.

I agree with you there Tedster. Both have shown good maturity at such young starts. Hopefully both will get run outs this season and push on.

Think 4-3-3 is his preferred system.

Sure he said he prefers 4-3-3 formation.

I think he means 3 at the back, 2 CBs with the full backs pushing on and a defensive type sweeper in front of them.

I could be wrong but I think Lucas Digne has played CB in the past so if Silva did wish to play 3 at the back he could put a shift in
But you do think his preferred formation is 4-3-3.

That was my understanding too, Smit, and the reason why he makes such an issue of having a DM such as (noooooooooo! ) Schneiderlein to augment.

As Blue and BeStyrne point out, if it is 4 at the back, the pursuit of a left sided centre-half (Mina? ) and left-back (Digne) would make more sense.
