So just out of interest, who would you like to see sign for us over the next couple of windows? Probably best to be a bit realistic as I have more chance of beating Conor McGregor in a fight than we have of signing Messi and Bale. These are the positions I think we need:

GK, Cover RB, LB, CB, CM, RW/ LW, CAM, ST.

I'm sure there will be mixed responses to this. How does everyone feel about the state of the squad? For me, it's easier to group the players into 3 categories:

a) players that we need to keep, either because they are currently indispensable or because of great potential

b) players that we are indifferent as to whether they remain or leave, and may be unconvincing but have the potential to be useful

c) players that are simply not good enough and need to be moved on

My list is as follows:

a) Lukaku, Barkley, Bolasie, Davies, Gueye, Barry (1 year deal) , Coleman, Baines, Holgate, Galloway.

b) Stekelenburg, Robles, Pennington, Browning, Jagielka, Mori, Williams, Besic, McCarthy, Deulofeu, Lennon, Mirallas.

c) Oviedo, Gibson, Cleverly, McGeady, McAleny, Kone, Niasse.

Therefore, over the course of the next 2 transfer windows I think we need:

GK with quality
RB cover
LB to challenge and eventually replace Baines
CB with experience and quality
CM who can be a long term replacement for Barry
CAM who can challenge and/ or develop Barkley
RW or LW who scores goals as well as assists
ST with quality to challenge Lukaku.

So this is how our squad is lining up til Jan.

1st XI
Coleman Williams Jags Baines
Barry Barkley Gueye
Delefeou Lukaku Bolasie
2nd XI
Holgate, Pennington, FMori, Oviedo
McCarthy, Gibson, Cleverley
Lennon, Valencia, Mirrallas

Dowell, Henen, Foulds, Davies, Kenny, Connolly, Williams, Walsh, Sambou, Browning, Besic, Niasse

Loaned out: Garbutt, Grant, Galloway, Tarashaj

Out: Mcgeady, Rodriguez

Gone:Howard, Hibbert, Osman, Pienaar

Obviously we would have all loved the big signings, but for whatever reason they didn't happen. This set of players is more than capable of top half, and with a bit of luck injury wise top 7. I think all can agree we haven't played well yet for more than 60 mins per game and still got two wins and a draw. As Koeman gets the level of fitness he desires, then performances will improve further. I have just been happy to see us do the dirty work and win ugly for once. Learn from this window and buy early, sort out the future i. e. stadium. Then when our position to buy is stronger, the bigger deals may materialise and let the fun begin.

Reckon with the players available tomorrow my line up would be 3 centre backs, Jags, Mori and Holgate, Baines and Lennon as wing backs. Midfield 3 of Gueye, Barkley and Barry. With Delboy and Mirallas up top. Stekelenburg in goal. Thoughts people?

Hypothetically speaking. If we do sign Williams, Bony, Kone and Bolaisse and lose no one else. What is our best side? And subs. I think it will make things very interesting. I have absolutely no idea who my starting 11 would be.

The squad numbers announced on the official club website show 5 players (Niasse, McGeady, Garbutt, McAleny and Rodriguez) without a number - which surely means they'll be leaving (either permanently or on loan) .
Allowing also for the signing of Gueye, we now have 22 aged-over-21 players, which leaves 3 vacant slots in the maximum allowed 25. If Stones and Lukaku (and and any others) leave, then there'll be further slots for incoming aged-over-21 players.
The current 22 aged-over-21 players are: 1 Robles, 3 Baines, 4 Gibson, 5 Stones, 6 Jagielka, 7 Deulofeu, 8 Barkley, 9 Kone, 10 Lukaku, 11 Mirallas, 12 Lennon, 15 Cleverley, 16 McCarthy, 17 Gueye, 18 Barry, 20 Oviedo, 21 Besic, 22 Stekelenburg, 23 Coleman, 25 Funes Mori, 27 Browning and 38 Pennington.
There are 6 aged-under-21 players given numbers today: 24 Tarashaj, 26 Davies, 28 Dowell, 30 Holgate, 32 Galloway and 39 Grant. Other U21/ U18 players will no doubt get numbers in due course. None of the aged-under-21 players take up slots in the 25-man squad.
