4 in
6 out

That's what we're led to believe

Funes mori

Not including loans

So we close too a LB, that leaves a CB and one more depending on other sales

We need the following in my opinion

LB, 2xCB, CM, Striker.

It seems that Marco Silva's preferred basic formation is pretty much a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.
In both cases, the front six comprise two midfielders, a "umber ten", two wide players (who can "tuck in") , and a centre-forward.
His team's players have to show pace and movement, have high energy, always be looking to go forward (rather than sideways or backwards! ) , and press from the front.
It's also reported that Silva wants a first-team squad of around 25 players - that's two players for every position and probably a third goalkeeper plus maybe a third/ fourth centre-forward or a "utility midfielder/ defender".
So, assuming (reasonably I'd think) that Sigurdsson is first choice "number ten", that probably leaves Klaassen, Dowell, (perhaps even Williams J. ) competing for the second "number ten" squad place. That's without any new recruits. Who would you want as the two "number tens" in the first-team squad?
The choices for "midfielders" would seem to be: Schneiderlin, Gueye, Davies, Besic, McCarthy, Baningime and Connolly. That's seven players competing for the four "midfield" squad places. That too is without any new recruits. Who would you want as the four "midfielders" in our first-team squad? If the 25-player first-team squad also had room for a "utility midfielder/ defender", who would you want?
Assuming we do get Richarlison, which players - from Walcott, Lookman, Vlasic, Mirallas, Bolasie, Sandro - would be the other three "wide players" in the first-team squad?
As for "centre-forwards", who would you keep Tosun, Niasse and Calvert-Lenin - and would you want to recruit a fourth?

So, 22 players were involved yesterday:
Stek; Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Baines; Davies, Schneiderlin, Dowell; Sandro, Tosun, Lookman; Hewelt; Kenny, Jagielka, Williams A, Robinson: Martina, Connolly, Besic; Vlasic, Niasse, Mirallas.
Another 7 players weren't involved (some carrying injuries? ) : Bolasie, Calvert-Lewin, Klaassen, Walcott, Baningime, McCarthy (unless he's still recovering? ) and Pennington (unless he's with the U23s? ) .
We also have the World Cup players (Pickford, Gana and Gylfi) yet to return.
Several other players (Browning, probably Galloway, etc. ) are with the U23s while some (Williams J. ) stayed back at Finch Farm for treatment due to slight injuries.
Meanwhile, Tarashaj is on trial at Grasshoppers Zurich - and we have already moved on Funes Mori, Rooney, Garbutt (on loan) , Robles and several youngsters (Grant, Dyson, etc. ) .
Anyhow, if we expect to recruit a few (3 or 4?) new players AND bring the total squad down to around 25, that means there are surely at least 10 current players who we might expect to be moved on (or consigned to the U23s) .
Reports are that while Silva is being impressed by some players (especially some younger ones) , he's pretty much already made his mind up about several of the players that will not be part of his first-team squad.
I wonder if there'll be any surprise retentions (players not liked by fans! ) or any completely unexpected additions or some disappointing outgoings (fan favourites? ) .

Seeing as the news on street is we have to let 10 or more players go I thought I'd start a thread on it. Myself and Blue-tit talked about players to keep or on an earlier thread. Here is the ten I'd like to see go.

With Mori and Robles already gone. That would be a big clear out. A needed one.

I can see some argument for keeping Stek as number 2 and possibly Rooney. As for the rest I'd be happy to see them move on and create room for others coming in.

Anyone want to keep some of the above players? If so, why? Or maybe there is some other players you would rather go on the list.

So if you believe all the rumours our possible starting line up come the start of the season could be:

GK: Pickford
LB: Phillip Max
CB: De Vrij
CB: Keane
RB: Coleman
CDM: Gana
CM: Meyer
LM: Kluivert
RM: Lozano
CAM: Siggy
ST: Tosun

Not bad if you ask me haha. Interesting to see if any of those remain targets under Brands or if he has some different names in mind.

Next season need:
Left Back: van aanollt at palace reminds me of younger Baines. Can get down the wing
- sell garbutt and Browning

Left wing: big summer signing - get Zaha- bonus of van annolt knowing him - won't take much jelling. Sell bolassi

Centre half: hollgate, mori, Keane + McGuire class at Leicester (may have buy out clause) - cheaper option Gibson at Boro. Sell Galloway - jags to coaching

Right back: Coleman and Kenny

Centre mid: needs sort out - get rid of jmac, besic, Rooney. Keep klasson, Gueye, Davies, sigorrson - need big season from sig

Right wing: Walcott Vlasic and lookman

Forward: Tolson Calvin Lewis + maybe cheeky bid for Joshua king from bornmouth. Sell naisse.

Money for Rooney, bolassi, naisse, besic, jmac, Browning and Galloway will get Zaha almost - got to show some ambition

Coleman. Mori Keane Arnold
Walcott gueye sig Zaha
King Tolson

Calvin Lewis

We should go pickford Baines, jags, Keane, Coleman, vlasic, klassen, Beni, Calvert Lewin, Walcott, tosun for Newcastle. I realise it's a young side, maybe a little raw but I figure most of them are capable of doing something other than going sideways or backwards.

My team

Coleman Jags Holgate Baines
Benni, Davies, Rooney
Walcott Tosun Niasse

Gana in for Benni if he fit.
Have Niasse causing them hassle and creating space for Tosun and Theo.
Something along them lines anyway.
