May just be paper talk, but Moyes is reportedly to be after Luke Shaw as a long term replacement for Evra. Let's hope that if this is true, Moyes won't be going after Baines.

Dandan217

1.) Would make sense for United, they have Evra, who although not the greatest, still more than decent, also have Buttner and Fabio at a push.

No real need for a LB, so why spend 15mil on a LB who is 28, when they can get Luke Shaw, for what I would think a similar price, let him have time to settle and develop his game and then step in for Evra.

Lets hope that is the case anyway. I want Baines to stay in the royal blue for years to come

Anyone else like to see Pienaar in the middle (behind the striker)? Think his lack of pace nowadays deters him from being as effective on the wings but his agility and guile would be perfect in that CAM role, especially with Barkley potentially out for a while.

Perhaps Mirallas on the left, McGeady on the right for them to cut in and allow the fullbacks more license to maraud forward? Just a thought!

Dandan217

1.) Pienaar has never been blessed with pace.I would leave him on the left continuing his partenership with baines.Yes he could play the cam role but personally I prefer him on the left side.Hes got bags of skill and is very clever in the way he can draw the foul in dangerous areas. He has been coming in for some stick in certain areas which is a bit wrong imo.Even if he's having a bad game he never hides and always wants the ball and tries to make things happen, one thing about him is for a little fella he's as tough as they come.

2.) I like the idea, but I would bring Mirallas into the middle, quick feet and prefers to play central - it is where he played in Greece.

3.) 13 Jan 2014 11:23:24
as good as pienaar would be in the cam role, I would agree with sydMAC, that the cam role while barkley is out should be mirallas' with a free role to roam at defenses I think we may see the best of him there, mc geady will slot in nicely in right wing too (his typical position is on the wing) ossie to continue his part from off the bench to liven the game up if it becomes stale

Seen people give Kone and Fellaini a bit of stick because they're looking lazy and lethargic.

Please remember that A)It's only pre season, Kone needs more minutes and B) both of them (plus Osman for that matter) are Muslims and are currently in the process of Ramadan so obviously, they're got going to be in the best possible condition to play. Especially with a 26 degree heat and the like.

Thought we were alright last night, think a draw would've been fair as we were only really undone by 2 counter attacking goals, as well as getting shafted (nothing new there then) by the referee.

Looking forward to the new season, COYB.

Dandan217

1.) I thought Felli did well and done a lot of running last night.

Kone didn't get a lot of service but what I will say is Jelly when he came on made things happen by searching out the ball. Pulling the defender out of position started to leave gaps and that's what Kone needs to do but again it's only pre season and I'm sure he will come good.

Jelly's movement was excellent tonight and he looks right back to his best. He's moving away from the defender again instead of hoping to get tripped or gain a foul and he's finding space regularly.

In this team and formation he will get goals.

Denis Cheryshev played for Madrid last night. Take it as you will, but it looks like he may be around the first team next year (yes I know it's a friendly, but still) so I believe any links between us and him will probably not come into fruition.

Dandan217

1.) I think the only links were from people saying are we interested. I never saw any links in the papers, etc.

2.) 02 Aug 2013 20:41:58
he just signed a new contract with Madrid. he won't be a toffee

Would you guys rather see Bryan Oviedo as a full back or an out-an-out winger? I personally would like to see him as the latter.

Dandan217

1.) Id like to see baines as an out and out winger and have oviedo play lb

2.) Oviedo's defending isn't up to scratch atm, definitely rather keep Baines LB and Oviedo LM primarily.

I like what Martinez has done. I was a fan from day one, but I know a lot of fans (including some on here) were not too happy with his appointment. I think he's realised that and immediately his first thought of action was to try and win the fans over.

What's the best way to get fan's happy apart from results? New signing's of course! Sure, the Wigan lads are hardly world beaters, but they're fresh new talent that has been injected into a small squad, all of this within in 2 days! Needless to say, it sure made a few more fans happy.

And then there was Gerard Deulofeu. The boy wonder from Barcelona, labelled the new Messi. So what did Martinez do? He only went and signed him! Sure, it's only a loan and he is by no means the finished product; but look at the buzz and sense of excitement it's created among 95% of us supporters, it's fantastic!

If Martinez wasn't everyone's cup of tea before, after the last few days, I'm sure he's won many more over.

Here's to a optimistic season under a new era. COYB!

Dandan217

1.) I have to agree. Wasn't my choice but so far so good. Starting to believe the guy can make things happen for us. I'm liking the foreign flair we seem to have at the min. Something I think we've lacked in the past.

Merseyside Marauders does have a catchy ring to it don't you think? No? Just me? I'll see myself out then.

Well he can hardly answer. If he says yes, there would be an uproar and all that malarky.

He can also hardly deny it because if a offer of £20mil comes in from Utd and we accept and he does go, then people will accuse him of being a traitor because he said 'no' but left anyways.

He can't win either way.

I don't think he's said he's ever wanted to leave though? Of course, he'll eventually leave for CL football; but who could blame him for leaving to a bigger club if his clause is met.

Has great potential, but had an incredibly poor season at Gladbach last year.

Personally, I'm not too concerned. People forget he's still very young for a Keeper and has time to learn. Yes, he's unconventional at times but he is a decent shot stopper and has proved (to me anyway) that he has the potential to become a great keeper. He reminds me a lot like De Gea when he first joined Utd, so I feel that he will come good. I hope.

Nice suggestions, those here my thoughts:
Ibarbo - Good player, possible but may be expensive.
Morata - Non-starter I'm afraid, the fee being quoted for him is too excessive.
Muniain - Good player, more of a winger or Attacking Midfield. Will also cost a lot due to Bilbao's "Basque-Only" transfer policy.
Volland - Would love this guy, potential for a cut price deal if Hoffenheim go down.
Firmino - My No.1 summer target. Superb player, similar circumstances as Volland.
Ings - Worth a punt, will no doubt be over-priced though.
Ruben Castro - Decent, but too old.
Seferovic - Heard the name, but not seen enough to make judgement.

Dandan217

{Ed002's Note - Firmino is certainly not an option.}

Totally agree with you AB, no one would moan about his attitude if it wasn't for that one game against Wigan.

12 million?! I think you'll find Munich are looking for double that. Besides, he will be a future star for them, so a loan move to Hamburg is probably more likely.

Bryan Oviedo.
