ssn reporting the Traore has obtained work permit and we are just waiting to tie up formalities with Monaco.

Just need creative mid to cover for Barkley, Pienaar and Deulofeu. Looked lacking in that dept yesterday.

Stephen Defour is the midfield maestro we need. We also need a top quality striker to get that 4th spot

Talking performance. my opinion is that we need an injection of pure pace into midfield and up front. We have players that can thread the ball through the eye of a needle and with pure pace u can with the right ability and understanding create that half yard necessary to do damage.
Yes our expectations r high and rightly so. just look at our moto. nil satis. but I think Roberto is building long term.
If we are to have our dreams fulfilled this season we will need to beat our neighbours and then get back on the horse getting a string of wins together. More importantly let's not get shackled and get back to fizzing the ball about, running lines, creating space and putting holes in the back of the net.
Yes we have missed Ross, but we are good enough to push without him.
Defa will be back soon, we've now got mceedy who, even though he was only on the pitch showed flashes and looked strong.
We need a striker to share goal scoring burden. Romelu needs a shot in confidence arm as I think the talk from him distracts from his recent performances.
I think Roberto will surprise us again troops, so let's hang in there guys. Long way to go yet and Europe still beckons!

This Traore looks like a very decent player and better on the ground than expected. Does anyone know if this move is likely to be a loan or perm? Side looked really tired lastnight, so let's hope Robbie has some plans to freshen up centre mid too. Not looking great for the derby :(

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Defo loan popadom, he only signed for monaco last week and is coming for experience

Loan move. Work Permit granted so just the paperwork to tie up now

Hi ed do you think there's a chance we could get ince from Blackpool this month? Is there any interest from us? You heard of any other potential signings? We have a lot of injuries and need reinforcements pretty sharpish! Cheers ed!

{Ed013's Note - There are 4 or 5 clubs in for him mate, Everton do have a chance, but your friendly red rivals are one of the favorites}

2 simple reasons why our performance was so dire last night. Barkley and Pienaar. You cannot lose quality players like that and replace them with Oviedo and Osman with regards to defence splitting passes.
Don't worry because we will have these two back soon.
My big worry is Spurs seem to be on a bit of a run now and look a completely different team to AVB's. They have won 5 and drawn 1 of their last 6 games. They are looking consistent for 4th.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest Degsy I didn't think Oviedo had a bad game first half. Osman, I agree was poor and should have been replaced well before he was. The main problem during the 2nd half was we didn't look interested and that allowed Albion back into the game.
Just returned from the pub and have been given a hard time from LFC supporters taking the Michael
and glory hunting Mancs trying to wind me up. The main basis of their argument was that we resorted to diving last night. Now we know that that Leighton and Kevin M are not divers in the mould of the likes of Suarez, Sterling and Ashley Young. They don't practice this on the training ground like the afforementioned have clearly done in recent weeks.
I simply stood my ground like I've had to do in recent weeks. But the criticism was immense. I didn't get down to the game last night and watched it on SKY with a mixture of fans.
Did we cheat our way into gaining a point or were we denied the 3 points that our first half performance surely suggested?

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree degsy. Both them players and we would have had 3 easy points. Still we are undefeated away in 7 games. let's hope either a barkley or delaf surprise us and return for the Derby. If not I would play mcgeady from start. Need more creativity.

RM admitting today funds are not an issue as we have 40m in the kitty from player sales alone it is finding the right players in his long term strategy, how refreshing as a fan that an Everton manager is prepared to give us all hope going forward! i'm not a DM basher but he would never have given this indication.

First post in Jan and after last nights performance I've had a really good think and yeno what it wasn't such a bad result! OK our expectations are through the roof at the mo we think we will win every game we play we were always going to suffer with the likes of ged, barks gibbo and kone (to an extent) missing let's hope this is as bad as it gets still only beaten twice in the league, still challenging for top 4, possible big big dude traore on the horizon and to top it off am 1 point of the top of the Everton fantasy league COYB IMWT

Don't know if any1 else has mention it but We have succeeded in bringing in 15 year-old winger Steven Kinsella to the Academy, securing the Irish U17 international ahead of reputed interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea.
According to a report in the Irish Examiner, a personal intervention by Roberto Martinez might have helped seal the deal for Everton and the club's Irish scout, Paul Hamilton, was pleased to have reached the end of a long road with a successful conclusion.

"We've been working for two years to get Steven over the line, so everybody at the club is naturally delighted, " he said.

Poor performance last night, Everton just do seem to do must win games, do they?

Anyway, I think the next 2 games are crucial to our season, lose on Saturday, we're out the cup, lose to Liverpool and we're further behind them and Spurs, meaning we miss out on a trophy and losing ground of top 4 rivals.

We need a turnaround, we've got McGeady (who I thought looked like he'll be a decent signing last night), we've got Traore and any other signings to come in and we've got Barkley, Deulofeu & Pienaar all out injured and possibly returning within the next few weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unfortunately some injuries are coming home to roost now - Ossie is ok but he's not a Barkley and he loses possession way too much - we need deulefeo and Barkley back ASAP

Is it me, or does anyone else think oviedo deserves a go at LB. oviedo seems to add more penetration and energy from LB than baines this season.at LB, I can't think of a LB in the prem that has impressed me like oviedo this season. baines has looked lathargic at times this season and isn't on form in my eyes. he hasn't been bad, but as the best LB in the world, I expect a bit better.

Baines looks lost without pienaar. Oviedo is not consistent for me.

Is it just me or did Lukaku resemble Heskey with his new look, maybe even with his performance last night, the old bible story too Samson when his hair was cut off. didn't Pienaar suffer for a bit too when he chopped the wig

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's resembled a poor man's big Vic of late and I though Vic was way more effective than him last night. Maybe Mourinho does actually know what he's doing after all. His first touch and hold up play are sadly lacking but he's still just a kid with plenty of room for improvement.

It was a bad performance yesterday for the blues, but I don't know why some people are jumping on Lukaku's back as of late. He may not have turned up in this game, but not many of our players did. He's played what? 20 games for us and scored 9 and assisted 6. tbh for just more than half way through the season, I would have expected him that from him, but imo I think he's doing a fantastic job atm.

A few draws too many maybe, but if we don't get into the CL this season who cares. At the beginning, majority of us were just hoping not to get relegated. It's all a transitional season for me. We've got a good squad, with some great up and coming talent, that will definitely be challenging for a place in the starting eleven by next season. All I can say is everything is on the up. let's brush ourselves off and look to the next one. COYB! Bobby's doing a great job.

PS. Is it just me, or did Jags look a bit "heavy" last night?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes - defo jags looked like he'd ate way to many pies! What's that all about? he looked massive!

Makes for painful reading and just when we were looking forward to the next few weeks.
Time for some of the kids to be blooded? After last nights woeful performance I think we have nothing to lose.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

With the greatest respect, I think that this post proves why Martinez knows better than the average fan. The amount of times over the years I've heard people at the match shout "throw Duffy on" or "give Jutkiewicz a go". This would have been a disaster then and would still be a disaster now. If they aren't in the first team there's usually a good reason for that. I agree that the youngsters need more football to improve and we are doing that by sending them out on loan. I don't understand the panic. Yes, we have a few injuries, and yes we were poor on Monday. But we are still in reach of a Champions League place so we have a lot to lose by playing inexperienced kids. Knee jerk reactions get you nowhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hard to argue with that tommy...good post..

21 Jan 2014 13:42:49
I think it's time we went 4-4-2 in our formation now, there has been too many draws & we need to take a leaf out man city's book, they play a similar game to us with dzeko & negrado up front & very rarely draw but take maximum points. My team would be;

Howard
Coleman
Distin
Jagielka
Baines
Barry
McCarthy
Barkley
Mirallas
Lukaku
Traore

I thought RM made his first real mistake last night & took far too long to make a change in that second half, & what on earth has happened to lukaku? Surely not another jelavic situation all over again? On present form I wouldn't pay 10 million let alone 20+ million & there may be better options at the end of the season anyway - how about remy?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree that we need to try something a bit different as we've had a few poor performances recently. Not sure about the comment on Lukaku, he has been poor, but is still a great striker on his day-but as you say, on current form, £20million is too much. Form is temporary.

barkley on the wing? play hoof the ball? wake up

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

So you want to put Barkley on the wing? IMO we should stick with same formation plus pienaar, oviedo & mgeady are ready made wingers maybe not so much oviedo but never put our best CAM on the wing

Agree0 Disagree0

What if one of the strikers is injured? Barkley is not a wide player! 4-2-3-1 suits our squad

Agree0 Disagree0

One poor performance and you want us to go back to the Moyes way of hoof and square pegs in round holes? This current system has served us well for the most part, but one bad result and RM should alter things drastically to accommodate certain players. Not sure I agree with you there at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

My team selection above guys was selected on players who are only currently fit & playing, if we had a fully fit squad it would look quite different & probably back to 4-5-1 with delefeo in for starters! :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

May I just point out an obvious flaw in that logic Zacki - Barkley is currently injured and Traore is not yet an Everton player therefore fielding that side wouldn't be an option at present as you state.

Haven't read any posts on the game, wanted to give thoughts whilst it was still fresh. For me that was our worst performance of the season. It really was. The annoying thing is it wouldn't have taken much to turn it into a good away performance. I'm not sure if Tenerife had an effect or he's carrying a niggle but Lukaku did not turn up. It was like playing with 10 men. Even Mirallas who again looked lazy ran him off the park. I don't have issues with the 4 in midfield, they put in a shift and although passes went astray, they controlled the 1st half but got overrun in the 2nd. The problem was our front two didn't bother to give any options. It felt like a 4-4-0 formation. They were not the effort levels we expect from Everton players. Ozzy was noticeably blowing at the end because he had to do most of Mirallas's running. One minute he's having to cover the centre, then he'd have to get his head down and chase out wide. He put in a dam good shift and I won't criticise him for yesterday. Or the defence, although our full backs couldn't attack like normal. My beef today is with the half arsed performances of Lukaku and Mirallas. It's all good exploding to life when we are on the counter and there's empty space. Let's see some explosion when the going is a bit tougher. We miss Barkley in there, I think we can all see that. But what really struck is how important Pienaar is for us. Seen him wrongly slated on here but I don't think people realise how important he is to our build up play. Think back to all the little one touches and spins. Watch our most memorable team goals you'll always see Pienaar contributing something clever. If you remember we didn't win any of our first 3 games, Pienaar was injured. When he plays the machine operates more efficiently.

Maybe it's the kick we needed for the derby. But we must perform better and I'm sure we will. They aren't exactly going into the game on the back of a good performance either.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It was a very lethargic performance all round. McCarthy and Ossie seemed the only two prepared to chase anything down in midfield. Lukaku was very poor! All though did set up Mirallas for the goal. Only positives was McGeady looked pretty good for the brief time he was on, I don't know much about him as a player but he looks to beat a man every time which is what we need. Stones looks a hell of a prospect, seems comfortable either centre back or right back.

An away point with a poor performance isn't the end of the world

Agree0 Disagree0

Oli, Alastair;
You need to watch what you say otherwise the Ossie bashers will be on.
I agree that him and Barry seemed to be the only ones in midfield who seemed to give a toss last night, people moaning about Ossie losing the ball, nothing about the passes he was receiving facing his own goal, and with someone up his backside. I notice that Howard and Lukaku seem to have been absolved from any blame regarding West Broms goal, a poor throwout and no control, but never mind it was all Ossies fault!

I think last night showed how much we miss Barkleys power and running in the CAM role, ossie not up to it over 90 mins, a real lack of cutting edge creation missing I Think RM will be looking for back up there.
Also agree with another poster that lukaku needs help in that loan striker role.
any other year we might accept a draw there but if we have CL ambitions then that needed to be 3 points!
Still 10 days to go i'm sure they are working hard to bring in new players but bear in mind we cannot take any more loans so buying will be harder for the quality we want and need.

With steven defours agent arriving at fulham for talks today surely he would be a top addition to our injury hit midfield. The lure of his countrymen lukaku and mirallas would be a pull also. Come on bobby it makes sense. What you think ed?

So, what do you reckon?
Will RM rest some of the usual first choice players for the cup game hoping that he can select a strongish side for the derby a few days later? Our prospects for the derby don't look too bright anyway - not only considering the injuries to the players who've been our better performers this season, but also the poor performances in some recent matches especially the use of long-ball tactics against WestBrom rather than our previous clever passing game.
Besides, if Anichebe can worry our defence, then Suarez must be licking his lips.
In past years, an away draw anywhere in the league - in particular in the derby - was usually a good result, but we need to turn draws into victories if we are to be genuine contenders for a top four finish.
Still, it's early days in the RM work-in-progress and the longer term plans are obviously still in their infancy.

Another point gained or another 2 dropped? The two draw specialists in the premier league were both at it again. My initial thoughts on hearing the team news was that the bench looked really weak, and ultimately that's what cost us maximum points tonight. When the players inevitably tired second half we had no one to come on and change the game. The injuries we have to Ross, peanuts, Del Boy, Gibson and Kone really weakened our options and ultimately it told in the end with a poor second half performance from a tiring team. Did anybody els think that victor was sublime in holding up the ball for them second half? We lacked the option of making changes. All in all 1 point is better than none but with our cousins from across the park dropping unlikely points to villa on Saturday it feels like an opportunity wasted! Let's hope we can get our boys back fit and add a couple of much needed reinforcements to the squad before we start dropping too many points and fall away from the great position we've put ourselves in. Nil satis nisi optimum

I was surprised that he had our back line running scared, understand now why Moyes thought so highly of him .

Really disappointed with tonight's performance. First half looked good. OK, so Albion shaded possession but Everton had the better chances to score and looked good for their 1 nil lead.
Second half was an embarassment. We never looked comfortable and CM was overrun. Where was Osman? I would have replaced him earlier as he was clearly having a mare. Why take off Oviedo who could have moved into CM to strengthen Ozzie's frailties?
Lukaku looked tired and should have been replaced early in the second half. I would have chanced Velios with a go. He's never let us down and has scored some important goals when allowed an opportunity to prove himself.
I would agree with many of the posts already read. We allowed WBA back into the game when it was there to be won. This was a side in a relegation battle and despite my earlier post suggesting that we shouldn't be complacent, the Albion players upped their game in the second half wanting to prove themselves with a new manager. We didn't punish them when we could have done and despite Kev's well taken goal, we surely should have had enough in the engine room to have gone in at least 2 or 3 nil up at half time.
Good news is that we didn't lose (still only 2 league defeats all season) but Coleman's 2nd half departure looks a worry. A suspected hamstring will be a major blow if he's out for the derby. With Ross already crocked, Seamus's contribution will be sadly missed if he's injured. It's clear we need his foraging runs down the right flank not to mention his eye for scoring opportunities.
So p****d off tonight when we had the chance to reclaim 4th. That would have been great to have taken across the park but let's reassess after the cup game next week. Hopefully a safe passage into the fifth round followed by a victory over our ever increasingly noisy neighbours. It can and will happen if we believe in ourselves.
We are not where we are in the table by chance or luck. In Roberto we trust. Onwards and upwards. COYB.

Right have calmed down now. So let's look at the positives, last year we would probably gone on to lose that game, with big Vic coming on and scoring the winner. So yes we were poor but we still got a result. Perhaps we have all just got a little carried away with all this champ league stuff. It's all about strength in depth, and at the moment what with injuries we just don't have it.
So carry on boys I for one am still enjoying the moment.

Just registered look at site each day and posted before you needed to register.
We all need to calm down we are 1point of top 4 yes missed a chance to move into pole position and did not take it, worst performance seen so far and missed 2 matches all season, but hey we didn't loose away from home against a west brom team that was first to every ball, I don't see us playing as bad as that till the end of season. They were on our backs the whole game, our injuries took there toll tonight we missed Barkley badly and with Del Boy out as well we lacked a spark, Mcgeady will be a top player for us and will need time to get up to speed has not played since October need a striker and a centre midfield need to be able to give Barry and mcarthy a breather, if we can bring that in and get barkley and Del Boy we have as good a chance as Liverpool there nothing without Suarez and it's going to take him to do same in first half of season in the 2nd half which would mean he would not be far off 45 prem goals but top 4 will come down to who beats each other and so far we have done well so far, and let's not forget what our goals were at start and for me it was have a crack at top 4 but realistic European football and cup.
