Big game tomorrow I would like to see moyes go for it form the off!

Howard
Coleman jags distin baines
Mirallas fellaini Gibson pienaar
Jelly vic

Jelavic would get a lot more chances with vic hdinv up the ball and bringing him in to play, or lite passes in the box for jelly to ounce on! Fellaini will still be joining the attack and waiting for crosses, plus need extra strength in the middle to stop aresenal dictating play give ossie a rest!

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Osman?

Agree0 Disagree0

Think osman needs to play. he struggles against a team that has a really dominant central midfielder who can bully him off the ball, but against a team like arsenal he can provide some creativity to break down their defence.

my difficulty is in where to play fellaini. I want us to play along the ground, but I think he and vic could also cause some real problems for mertesacker and vermaelen.

interesting dilemma, we'll see what moyes comes up with.

Agree0 Disagree0

If our team is fired-up for this match, that's fine, but sometimes that has led to reckless (sometimes red-card) tackles - especially in midfield. I'm also concerned that our players - being part of a smaller squad and not being rotated/rested like other teams - might run out of energy in the second half and we'll drop back inviting Arsenal, who have pace and ability, to come onto us. We'll need to have an attacking outlet - pace on the break (Mirallas) and/or retaining possession with good hold-up play (Anichebe) - to relieve the opposition's pressure IMHO. I also expect DM to get a good shift out of the players and make judicious use of his substitutes. A draw at Arsenal would normally be a very good result, but we surely need a win to keep us in the mix for the 4th/5th European qualifying positions. {Ed025's Note - i hear what your saying jonesy, but the guys will be up for this, 6 games left means its time to stand up and be counted, a draw would not be a disaster though mate..

Everton youngster Sam Kelly appears to have gone back to Norwich! Played for their U18's today! {Ed025's Note - U21,s i think mate..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Nothing reported on official websites about him returning, but his name is in the NCFC U-21 team that played he other day. It's only a year or so since the joined Everton from them, so what's happened? I wish the Everton official website was more forthcoming about such players - especially when thy leave the club - but the player profiles are often out-of-date and don't always give much information. {Ed025's Note - i think we would all like a bit more transparency mate..

Just watched Bill Kenwright give his speech, brought tears to my eyes, I'm 38 years old and have been a liverpool fan my whole life and I had tears in my eyes listening to Bill Kenwright. In this day and age when success is paramount I find that it's been very easy to forget the true value and the power of the bond between our fans; at some point in our lives we all are guilty of forgetting the important things in life, in our case harmless banter, a pint down the pub with our football neighbours, a laugh and a joke, all of us have at some point or another forgotten these things and after listening to Bill it made me feel more than a little ashamed at being swept away by the power of needing to be successful at all cost and forgetting what we really have. It's only a game isn't it? I think our friends and neighbours are far more important, relatives go without saying. Never again will I forget the bond between our clubs, how can I after listening to that. All of my respect to you and yours.
Jud. {Ed025's Note - great post that jud, it would be nice if we remembered for the rest of the year mate..

Fellow Evertonians, let's make a pact. No matter if we win the league, get relegated, go in to administration whatever, as long as everton exists, as Evertonians can we please never pinch a horse on its nose. With all the crap in the world, I had to laugh when I saw that knob do that. What is he angry against, which team does he hate, in an old school way what firm is he for or against? He punched a horse on the nose. We are better than that and now what little respect I had for Newcastle fans will be forever tainted with the fact that one of your own punched a horse on the nose.

I just wanted to say good luck for the next few weeks guys. As a Red, I am aware that our season probably will not end with European football, but would love Merseyside to have representation in the EL or CL, and will be keeping my fingers crossed for you guys. I know we're rivals and all that, but I have big respect for EFC, along with Arsenal, the only decent, honest, hard working side in the top 6.

Cheers guys {Ed025's Note - cheers mate, nice sentiment..

Ed025: surely it's appropriate that DM is still planning for the possibility that he does stay? If European qualification is the key and we achieve it, then it'd be daft not to be prepared come that time. Even if we don't qualify and he leaves, would he want the reputation of having given up and letting things slide before he want. There's personal and professional pride - plus not wanting future employers doubting his integrity and commitment. After much thought - especially after the Wigan cup game - I'd now like DM to stay and rebuild the squad and play expansive, progressive, entertaining, winning football. I'd also like a modern stadium and the increased commercial income that we'll need in order to be competitive under Financial Fair Play. Once a blue, always a blue! {Ed025's Note - i feel he will stay sid, managers that are leaving dont look to buy new players, the new manager would want to bring his own mate imo..

Seems to be an obsession going on with this site and Kopites. Surely on a wind up for bites?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Definitely a concerted wind-up exercise.
Stand fast, fellow blues, and support the team into a second successive season finishing above them. That clearly hurts them - especially the suggestion that the balance of power on Merseyside has shifted to us.

If we bring in a younger - but suitably experienced - goalkeeper in place of the likely-to-depart Jan Mucha in order to challenge Tim Howard for the first-team position, where would that leave our current younger keepers? It's asserted that keepers take longer to develop than outfield players, but what's the point of us bringing in and/or developing young keepers (like Springthorpe and Taudul) if we don't give them a chance. I accept that it's a risk to only have such youngsters as back-up, so maybe we'll take a more-experienced keeper (from Europe perhaps?) on loan just in case so that: (1) we're reasonably covered, but our other (younger) keepers can still get preference; and (2) we can use our limited funds on permanent transfers that add to the squad in key outfield areas instead.
I don't think many posters believe that retaining Jan Mucha would be the best move. Cue response from known contrarian ;-)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought Mucha looked okay once he had a run of games. Its pretty difficult for a keeper to come in as a one off and look good unless everything is going for them. Not sure if I would keep him though as the money on his wages and sale could be used elsewhere. Would prefer an english speaking keeper though as integration would be much easier so developing the youngsters may well be the way forward.

Moyes has got to play Mirralas in behind the striker against Arsenal so he can have a go at there two centre halfs. The Arsenal playing surface will be perfect for him to run at them COYB I predict a 2. 1 win for the Blues. {Ed025's Note - love your optimism stef, im going for a 1-1 draw..

Believable1 Unbelievable0

There's a school of thought amongst the media, that Everton "choke" (or worse "bottle it") in the big games, especially away from Goodison. We're considered far too prone to defensive mistakes (misplaced back passes, playing a too-high offside line, giving away free kicks or penalties, etc. ), making reckless tackles that earn red cards, and missing clear scoring opportunities. Of course, every other team has the same problems on occasion, but we also seem to roll over and get our tummies tickled far too often against the so-called bigger clubs. Let's hope we can finally win at the Emirates on Tuesday and put that media opinion to rest. Once a blue, always a blue!

I have been looking at the league table and the best scenario for the last day of the season (if we have not already secured a european slot) is Newcastle and Sunderland fighting for one spot to stay up: NUFC v AFC and THFC v SAFC and CFC v The Mighty Blues with a place in europe at stake for all of the contenders. What a last day of the season that would make!

SA90

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Best we beat Sunderland when we go there then.

Agree0 Disagree0

SA90: by "best" I imagine that you mean "likeliest or best you could realistically hope for" based on your predicted results leading up to the final weekend's fixtures. As for me, the "best" scenario would actually be that Everton are safely qualified for the Champions League by then. Now, I'm not saying that's likely, just that it would be the best scenario. ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

CA, that's what I meant. I think we are of the same thought. If we do Sunderland then that will keep them scrapping until the final day, as in your post we need them to be competitive and not roll over.

i think we need a minimum of 7 points from the next 3 games (ideally 9 of course). looking at the run ins- chelsea have some tough games left (we could end up cheering on the rs). spurs also have tricky games left, as do we. arsenal seem to have the best run in. but this is football and nobody can predict anything, which is why I love football. if you had told me at the beginning of the season, with 5/6 games left we had a very real chance of champions league football I would have taken it. but now its getting closer and closer, I will be gutted if we don't, although europa league is still a decent achievement and something to build on. I know europa takes a lot out of the squad, but it can help attract some players to the club, especially with it being the season leading up to the world cup next year, so a player like lukaku might think we are a good bet next year. it also puts us back on the european map and something to build on next year.
hopefully 3 points vs arsenal. hope we give it a real good go but we will have to score a minimum 2 goals as arsenal at home are very likely to score at least once.
coyb our poor record away at arsenal has to end soon. why not tomorrow?

Darling you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that you are mine
I'll be here 'til the end of time
So you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
It's always tease, tease, tease
You're happy when I'm on my knees
One day it's fine and next it's black
So if you want me off your back
Well, come on and let me know
Should I stay or should I go?

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go, there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know

15 Apr 2013 09:02:15
I love all the banter and rumours about who might be transferring in and out, but just listening to what DM is saying - and irrespective of whether he himself stays or goes - our squad needs five or six players brought into it (whether from outside or from our U-18 and U-21 setups) to not only start replacing the over-30s, but also just to bolster the basic numbers. The latter especially so if we have to play Thursday-night UEFA Europa League - or (less likely) midweek UEFA Champions League - matches in between the weekend Premier League matches. That's not allowing for the known departure of Neville, the mooted departures of Fellaini, Jelavic, Heitinga (and maybe even Osman), and the usual end-of-season release of some U-18 and U-21 players. Then there's the possibility - even with increased squad rotation due to the domestic cup and possible European matches - that some retained young players will be sent on loan for regular competitive matches. Whatever way you look at it IMHO, our squad needs to grow from its present size by at least five or six - each of them a genuine first-team contender.
