7 out and 1 in, excellent piece of work from Carlo, not so long ago UTD were offering £25 million for Josh King, we get him till the summer with option to buy and the lad is on £45 grand no brainier, this could be the start of a great partnership up front with DCL both of them have great pace, really looking forward to seeing them terrorise defences.

I think apart from Bernard it's job done for this window GB.

{Ed025's Note - a bit underwhelming for me 247, we got rid of a few of the fringe players which was good but i feel there was an opportunity to bring in a couple of game changers, josh king came in of course but that for me is like for like with tosun going out..

I guess so Ed, I am glad there wasn't any knee jerk panic stuff only doomed for failure kind of thing, and I suppose I was prepared for a low key window from all the talk pre window etc. mate.

{Ed025's Note - i just think we may have missed a trick 247, even after a couple of bad results we are still very much in the mix and a couple of decent if not stellar signings would have given us a big lift mate..

I think Carlo will address this in the next window Ed mate, we have had a massive problem at Everton and have been in dire straits for years, at last we have a manager who is capable and with backing from Mr Moshiri will get it right, we are going in the right direction mate.

{Ed025's Note - yeah i get that GB but in this very topsy turvey season i just wish we had gone that extra mile, im afraid patience is a virtue which i dont possess mate..

He’s a different type of player to Tosun so although he may be like for like in terms of value Ed I think he’ll add another dimension to our play. We’re desperate for more pace and we’ve got it. I don’t think we’re in a financial position to add game changers at this time, perhaps in the summer. We’ve shifted a lot of dead wood in the last few days. Albeit it on loans but it’s progress. It was Brands plan to clear the wage bill a bit and he’s done that, hopefully will give us breathing space for some bigger deals in the summer.

{Ed025's Note - i do see the logic gibbo, but any forward we have must get the service if they are to flourish mate and thats our achilles heel, even if we had kane and salah up top they would be useless unless they get the service mate..

Not sure it’s really a like for like Ed.
Tosun 9 goals in 49 premier league appearances
King 48 goals in 161 premier league appearances

I was going Tosun May have been given a chance but wasn’t to be.

I think King is a decent addition and if is played in a front 2 with DCL (big if) will bring us more goals than Tosun would have.

{Ed025's Note - thats if they get the service dan..

Don't see how it would put us in a financial position to sign game changers in the summer to be honest Gibbo. We haven't actually sold anyone, so aside from bolasie who will be out of contract the others like tosun and Bernard will be on the wage bill again come the summer. If we want to move on players like that need to be sold. Look at Walcott and bolasie. Massive contracts and they were basically with us until the final 6 months of contract then left without us getting a penny for them.

Toffedavey we’ve reduced our wage bill for 6 months or so.

We’ve brought a player in who hopefully will help with getting the goals for us to keep our top 6 challenge up for little outlay.

C.V. isn’t going away any time soon - this window has clearly highlighted the effect it’s having on all clubs. Loan deals the big thing this window and we’ve benefitted by loaning players out.

The summer window I imagine won’t be a usual one - no team is going to go absolutely crazy.

Those teams that do sign players will probably be offering players contracts which will be more sensible. Think it’ll be hard for players to look to get massive wages with current financial situation the clubs, fans and communities are in.

The only way we will sign “game changers” is by being able to offer european football and the pulling power of Carlo and his project a reason to join us.

I genuinely think the days of us or any other sensible team spending over the odds for a player will have disappeared for a while.

If Josh king can help us get those goals needed to qualify for Europe then this window will definitely have put us in a better position to recruit in the summer.

What positions would have tried to strengthen ed025? Any players in mind?

One thing to consider Billy is the fact that very few permanent transfers happened in this winter window. Most deals done were loans either with a purchase option or without. The spending was way way down than in recent years.

Maybe you could have looked at 1 or 2 youngsters who can contribute almost from get go but not many significant deals happened this window. Maybe Everton, like all clubs, wanted a bit more financial clarity before spending vast sums on purchase?

{Ed025's Note - yeah i can see that deeps, i know january is not a great time to buy but i feel that a couple of decent loans could have really helped, the way things are going with this pandemic hit season i feel its a great opportunity for one or more of the lesser lights to force their way into a european place, yes it would be a bit of a gamble but if we achieved that i believe we would be in a position to attract the better players next season who seem to crave CL or EL football.
I know funds will be tight of course mate but for all us older guys it was a chance to see the club in the upper tier of domestic and dare i say it european football, im not intending to pop my clogs anytime soon but i just think with a bit more bravery and financial speculation we could have been well on our way..

I get what you mean, ed025, and I agree in a way. The best part has been shipping players out and getting the wage bill down, that will go a long way to keeping on the right side of FFP. Hopefully, some of the players we've loaned out will be sold in the summer window.
You're right when you say it's a great opportunity to kick on, especially with the league panning out the way it is. But to get that extra bit of quality in, I think we have to have European football to offer any new players. Qualifying for these competitions is still there for us so maybe the goal is to get to them first and then look at strengthening the squad with quality player. The other thing to recognise is the fact that this window has been, for the most part, pretty quiet for every club. C.V. hs obviously had an impact and it will be interesting to see how this runs into the summer window.

{Ed025's Note - i agree BP and thats why i think maybe a bit of a gamble could have tilted things our way mate, all the european spots are up for grabs the way this season is panning out and i just hope we dont lose out by not speculating in this window..

The board/ manager/ DoF seem to be gambling on the players already at our disposal, ed025. I'm not too bothered about this as I think we will make the Europa league at least this season. We just can't afford any serious injuries as the squad is pretty thin after the latest streamlining. Is it possible that CA/ MB have their targets for the summer window and would rather wait it out instead of buying now? As you say, a bit of quality would've given us a bit of a boost so let's hope King can produce the goods.
On a side note, ed, is there any specific reason that C.V. is edited to C. V in posts?

Josh King is move in the style of Richarlison when he wants he can create for others and when the opportunity arises he can finish much much better for our team than Tosun plus he is quicker than Tosun and Richarlison, great signing.
