If I remember rightly they've had an interest in him before, maybe a potential loan move rather than a full transfer. We do need to improve the attacking threat (or lack of) in midfield mind.

At the moment I'm more concerned about what's happening with the defence. As Ed002 said Holgate is available and open to offers plus Mina wanted out but will only leave at the right price. Additionally we need a quality RB as a top priority for me. As mentioned before it looks like Aarons is a non starter so we must look to our other targets. I'll be surprised if Moise Kean to PSG doesn't happen so we still need another striking option. RM/ RW is another position that needs strengthening. If someone comes in for Iwobi and Delph that would be like Christmas coming early although I can't see it happening.

How has Branthwaite done on loan? He looked like one for the future too and might be a good replacement for Holgate or Mina?

I disagree, I think while their is a void between U23 and the first team loans can be of benefit, but they need to play! Then it can act as either development or as the shop window.

Just how many have made it the first team since being loaned out? Or do we do what we did with Pennington and keep loaning them out till their contract ends. Or have them sit on the bench of a lower league club, that’s really helping their development.

That was 10 years ago Sa. Woburns right, if they don't progress after a loan then very few will make it.
It should be U23s, loan and then training with 1st team and a mix of U23s and 1st team bench. Then 1st team.

It needs improvement to be a successful model but it shouldn’t be ditched
There are different reasons for loans
Branthwaite would be an example of development with a view to getting him into the first team
Someone like Kenny to me is more about getting him in the shop window as he doesn’t have a future in the first team and will hopefully hold some value
Bolassie and Walcott it seems more about limiting the financial impact as the contracts run down,
Different reasons to benefit from the loan system.
