Hi Ed (and everyone else).

Can't help thinking about the Funes Mori deal and price we paid in the end. It was reported to be 5.5mil right from the start from good sources. Then it took a long time to get his international clearance, seemingly with some difficulty before he signed for 9.5mil.

Every article and post Everton have made about him they always mention the price which is very rare, with us especially its always 'undisclosed' or if not very rarely mentioned. I know that the fees have something to do with the international clearance, does anyone know the finer details because I'm thinking we've made a deal to say that we've paid 9.5 but I'm not so certain that's right - thinking it might have been to get the clearance over the line and all parties were just on board.

Obviously not important now but thought it was interesting. Thoughts?

{Ed002's Note - No transfer fees are "undisclosed" as they have to be registered, in Euros, with UEFA.

The fee registered was €12.9M.

It might be an apt time to explain again about the cost of transfers (excluding wages). What is paid by the buying club would typically include:

(a) Transfer fee - the big number - in this case €12.9M (about £9.5M).
(b) Any levy applied by the local FA – 5% for the EPL.
(c) Tax due on the transfer fee – typically this will be VAT (at varying rates across Europe) some or all of which should be reclaimable.
(d) Agent fees – this may be to one or more agents (as an example, Liverpool have spent £40M plus VAT on agent fees over the past three years leading to this window).
(e) Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(f) Intermediary fees – this may be to one or more sponging leeches (what do you mean you have a super agent?) .
(g) Tax due on the Intermediary fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the Intermediary bills from – it is not reclaimable.
(h) Signing on fee to the player (possibly including non-reclaimable VAT if the player is VAT registered).
(i) Legal fees.
(j) VAT on legal fees which is reclaimable.
(k) Moving/relocation costs for the player.
(l) VAT on moving/relocation costs which is reclaimable.
(m) Paying up insurance costs to the selling club (sometimes waived).

I read somewhere that the original transfer fee was about 6.25M pounds but Mori had a clause in his contract in which he was entitled to 50% of the transfer fee which would take it up to the 9.5M pounds. If true that would take care of the (h) signing on fee above. It might have been added on to the original transfer fee to help with the case for special recognition for his work permit?

{Ed002's Note - No, that is not true.}

Cheers for the break down ed002, no wonder our board try not to spend too much cash in the windows, bit complicated and expensive to sign a player these days!

Exactly spudv. Too many people giving out bout the board when they don't have a clue about the ins and outs of running a football club. Even more of a reason to PRAISE Kenwright and Martinez for not selling. Good business done on the transfer front imo. Holding on the players we have and trying to improve them is the only way Everton can possibly compete.

Lennon, Clev and Del boy were got at good value imo. Not sure about Mori because I haven't seen him play. Hopefully he'll adapt well and turn out to be a good asset. Time will tell. As for Holgate, Henan and Rodriguez hopefully they develop with time and reach their potential.
