With Rafa imminent to becoming our new manager, it makes one wonder if all this hype in the media from every so called expert that Rafa is the wrong man for the job blah blah blah that it's not so many Everton fans complaining at all, with the majority of us actually looking forward to it, I think he will do very well for us and surprise the few disbelievers.

What do you base that on GB. What has he done last 8 years. Did he go to China for the good of the game or for the good of his pocket

It's like asking Sean Connery or Roger Moore to come back as Bond or to expect Phil Taylor to be World Champion at darts again. They were great years ago but not now

Based on what I've seen on this site there's a lot of fans complaining and the few disbelievers are more numerous than you are making out

Just base your enthusiasm on facts instead of sound bites.

We would all like a manager who is going to take over and have us pushing for the top immediately but if I am honest I would take stability and be able to watch a team that is growing.

Maybe we could get a vote going yes or no for Rafa.

I would like whoever the football gods will finally look kindly on as Everton Manager

From what I've read Rafa is a lovely bloke but that doesn't make him the perfect manager for us

His style of football is outdated - the days of playing for 0-0 and maybe sneaking a 1-0 win are long gone. Who of the top sides in the PL or successful sides in Europe play that way?
Why did he go to China. He went solely for the money - not because he wanted to enhance his reputation by winning a league that no one cares about
By the way he didn't come close to winning the Chinese league and he hasn't won anything for 8 years (and before you all say it that's a lot less time than Moyes - Yes but Moyes is in Europe - I don't think Rafa will get us anywhere close)
He's not wanting to come to Everton other than because it's on his doorstep and its a good final pay day for him. Look at the contract we will offer him - high salary, long duration - perfect for if he fails after 12 months

I would have liked Galtier, Favre, Potter or Dyche but what do I know - I wanted Martinez, Silva, Koeman and CA.

As I said whoever the gods will favour.

{Ed077's Note - Simeone is considered a "sneak a 1-0" kind of manager by many. His Atletico side won the league last season.

He was Ed but last season they were 2nd highest scorers in the league, averaging a little under 2 goals per game. The whole league doesn't score many when compared with the PL for example but maybe he's learning - but he did have a tight defense.

If you compare the football to what CA was playing for the latter half of the season which for most of the time was dull, uninspiring and flat (if that was because of the quality of player/ injuires we had or not) , I can't see why Rafa couldn't at least improve the style of play regardless of how long he's not done this or that, Even some more progressive passing would be an improvement from last season. I think he has something to prove and with his family living in Liverpool he can't exactly just pack up and leave/ hide if anything goes sour. If it happens give him a chance to change us Evertonians minds before jumping on his back.

I agree with you Arguo that the football played by CA in the second half was no better than the football that Rafa likes to play. If it wasn't for the tremendous start we made in the first 6 games then we would have been well down the table

I don't think Rafa is a better manager than CA

I personally don't want him as manager. But as an Evertonian I want my club to do well and will support the team week in and week out. If Rafa gets the job I sincerely and honestly hope he proves me wrong and gets success for us.

I can't however say that I am prepared to wait another 18 months to 2 years for him to prove himself to us. CA was supposed to have taken us within another 3-4 signings of a team capable of challenging for Europe and domestic trophies next season. I expect Rafa or whoever else gets the job to deliver on that. I'm sick of resetting the clock to zero every time we get a new manager and saying he needs time, his own players, every excuse under the sun for non achievement until we sack them and start the sad, sad cycle all over again.

Yeah I completely agree

I think with Rafa coming in he is the closest to match carlo's set up from last season, IMO its as close a like to like to the managers we have to pick from. As Evertonians we can only hope for a playstyle that we started off with last season but with mix with a tactical strong defense. Hopefully the signings that we make can carry on the development of the team and squad and make that leap to crash the big 6's Party which really we should have done last season.
