I never cease to be surprised by how the reputation of people (be they football mangers, players, or whatever) are taken as gospel by so many people and how the actual achievements of people aren't honestly judged in the context of the situations they had to deal with. It's so easy to just work on old assumptions rather than take the trouble of honestly reevaluating.
At Everton, the complaints about the current team seem to be a lack of a target-man, no solidly organised defence, ponderous play rather than fast (and occasionally direct) football, and a lack of heart, belief and aggression. Amazing: all those things we bemoan the lack of at Everton are the very things that Allardyce is always criticised for!
He did what he had to do given the limited resources (and dire situations) at his various clubs and surely has to be considered comparatively successful. At Bolton, he did recruit some skilful players alongside the grafters and fighters. Imagine what he could do at Everton with the resources to use even better players in a properly organised and motivated team.
I. m not happy with RK at the moment, but think we need to see how things stand at the end of the year (prior to the January transfer window) and, if a change is then needed, I would not be unhappy with Allardyce.
As for the talk of Ancelotti, what would attract him to us at present and what would attract the players to Everton that he'd want if we're not Champions League regulars or genuine challengers for domestic trophies? He's used to managing established current "elite" clubs, which we could become if we get through the next few seasons unscathed and can get our new stadium and increased income, but we aren't in that group of clubs at this moment in time (despite all of our history) .

{Ed025's Note - in the end bobby its all about opinions here, you can make a case for sam and im sure some would agree, myself i see him as an egotistical liar and thief and a blight on english football, but thats as i say just an opinion mate..

Ed025 - I can see your point about his personal shortcomings, BUT he is effective at managing football teams and his reputed football style is based on cliche rather than a proper look at what he did with the resources he had.
By the way, we’ve had a few scallies at our club over the years, so someone who (allegedly) took a backhander wouldn’t be our first - be it in the team or in the boardroom!

{Ed025's Note - your right mate but i just cant take to the guy..

The guy is a crook and up his own arse. Simple as that.

He is like Pulis in that he only gets the best out of teams when they are in trouble. When he's been at a club for a while he struggles to take them forward. As for the football he plays it's not my cup of tea. They both play utter dire uninspiring long ball thuggery football. Not for me.
