Southall is probably the best goalkeeper ever, never mind just for Everton. No point debating that. Although I'd say Howard and West for second and third best Everton keeper.

Southall light years in front of the rest,

had he been English he would have owned the keepers shirt hands down,

Just as an aside Andy Gray joked about him wearing a red shirt in the Cup winners Cup final as a kind of faux pas

He wore it only to honour his Welsh background!

Big Nev. not even worth debating.

5.) 03 Jul 2014
Big Nev followed by Martyn.

Anybody that does not put Southall first did not see him play or have a very poor memory, in the worlds best 5 keepers ever.

Big Nev, no contest.
And he wore the red shirt in '85 because it was the only option left to him.
Back then there were only 3 colour shirts available for goalies, green, blue and red. In the ECW final Everton wore blue, Rapid Vienna wore green so New only had one option left unfortunately, red.

Southall was the best by a country mile. Given the silly numbers bandied about for average players. How much do you reckon would have been offered for Southall if he was in his prime now. I reckon if Shaw went to Utd for £27m Southall would have to be worth £40m minimum.

Southall, but jim arnold gave him a fight for the no 1 jersey

I reckon Big Nev would still be awesome in goal, he would definitely not leave much room to get the ball past him into the net.

Best goalie by a mile

On his day Gordon West was as good as any, his problem was his nerves. Anyone remember when Jack Charlton started the trend to stand in front of the keeper for corners. West told him 'stand in front of me, and I'll go right through you'. From what I recall Charlton never stood in front of him.
