Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.
22 May 2013 22:32:42
David Moyes said he couldn't turn down ManUtd once they'd offered him the manager's job, but I wonder if he might have stayed at Everton if serious investment and better finances were genuinely likely. I believe he knew that the club is no closer to getting improved finances and that he'd not have the budget to take the club forward as he'd want. That being the case, any new Everton manager would come into the job knowing this and the question is how many would want to take on the job of rebuilding our ageing squad that's short of numbers without the funds for too many incoming quality transfers. For those of you who say "what about the TV money, the prize money, outgoing transfers", I say that David Moyes knew about this and still left. For me, it raises the question of how much of that money is already earmarked to service our current debts and our future operating costs? How much (or little) will be left for improving the squad (transfer fees and wages)? And not forgetting that our wage expenditure is now restricted by financial fair play.
Giving our talented academy, etc. , players, of which we have several, a chance to prove themselves - because of limited incoming transfers of more experienced players - will take time.
Either way, once the new manager joins - whoever it is - I hope that all of us show patience and support him as he takes our club forward.

Either way, no rational manager would chose Everton over Man Utd, even if we gave him 50 million to spend, it would make no difference, he would still be on the touchline at Old Trafford every other week. No matter how much he led us on and in the end took us for a ride, it is totally understandable why a manager would leave for arguably the biggest club in the world

Investment or not Moyes would have still gone to Manchester United it's not like he left us for Villa he would have been a fool to pass on the chance to manage Man Utd.

As I have stated in the past. I was told 4-5 seasons ago the only job DM would leave Everton for would be to manage at ManU.
SA90

SA90: I don't doubt that's what you heard, but would DM have turned down Real Madrid, Barcelona, or Bayern Munich if they'd offered their manager's job to him before the ManUtd job ever became available?

I don't understand the clamour for pereira to get the job. The Portuguese league is no more competitive than the SPL, it's a 2 team league. More worryingly he has won the league twice on the run yet Porto haven't offered him a new deal. Porto fans also say he is tactically enept. No one has seen his teams play yet everyone seems to be hoping he gets the job!
Believable0
Unbelievable0
I agree.
Agree0

Yeah, because AVB and Mourinho have done really dab since they left! I watch Porto a lot, very fast paced passing attacking football while very organised defensively. He has a very high work ethic and good going into big games like Benfica and SportingLisbon. He has also worked on a low budget and has worked wonders. He may not be Mourinho but from the Porto side I have watched they are rather exciting.

I posted a link yesterday about him and he is nt loved. However isn't that the same league that gave us Jose and Ava. just posing the question. Also dm came with no prem exp. jlaff

Fashion I would expect, Spurs have an ex Porto Manager, Chelsea may well end up with another so it is assumed he is in their class, plus a cool sounding name, I just hope that Victor Pear-tree (try a translator or two) with zero experience of the EPL or even English football per say is up to the job. If he is as good as his own publicity great, if not the effect on our club, well that is something I do not even want to think about.
Agree0
Disagree0
So you think Everton never offered Moyes a new contract seen as though he was only contracted to the Summer? Of course they did! Just as Porto have offered Pereira a contract he has turned it down in the hope of a move to the EPL. There is a huge difference between the SPL and Liga Portuguesa, look at the players who have recently played in that league, Falcao, Moutinho, Hulk, Ronaldo, Cardozo, Witsel etc compared to the calibre of player in the SPL i. e Samaras, Hooper, Jelavic. You are quick to critisise Pereira but Mourihno and Villas-Boas were in his position not so long ago and look how they turned out. Plus, I can assure you they both had better teams than Vitor has had but he still has a better record than both of them.
BitterBlue
Agree0

Mourinho is a one off, but he spent a lot of time getting experience working with some of the games too coaches, e.g bobby robson. AVB on the other hand has far from proven himself in the prem-was sacked by Chelsea after a couple of months and has taken spurs from 4th to 5th. Spurs played much better football under Harry. Pereira inherited a very good Porto side, a lot of his signings have not impressed-shoestring budget or not. As I mentioned, it is a 2 team league-Lisbon are no longer challenging the big two so it is easy to play expansive attacking football against inferior opposition, Celtic are a prime example of this. I don't see how pereira's record is any better than neil lennons (don't get me wrong I don't want Neil Lennon) I just feel many blues are getting caught up on a fella they know nothing about just because he is the most 'exotic and glamorous' name we've been linked with
Agree0
Disagree0
Yeah the portugese league is like the spl, that is why benfica and sporting lisbon spanked us big style
Agree0
Disagree0
Portuguese league is miles better than the spl, you will not see a spl come close to winning a major cup like porto and benfica have
Agree0
Disagree0
Comparing the Portuguese league to the SPL is a joke. Yes, the Portuguese league is a 2 team league, but you could probably say the same about the Premier League the last 2-3yrs with the 2 Manchester clubs above the rest.
The Portuguese league is an improving league, make no mistakes about it, yes, Benfica and Porto are the standouts, but they also have Sporting Lisbon, who I a well known club, and although they have struggled in the last year, they are still a decent side. Braga, the side who finished 3rd last season is a very good side as well and made a good account for themselves in the CL. And now Pacos, who finished 3rd this season have developed into a decent side under a good manager (although he could leave to replace Pereira at Porto)
The Portuguese league is no where near as bad as the SPL. In fact, the Portuguese league as of last year, took over Ligue 1 as the 5th most rated league on the UEFA coefficient, first time that the top 5 (PL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1) have been broken up in a very long time. That rating has meant they get 3 teams possibly for the CL. Compare that to Scotland where they are ranked 18th on the UEFA coefficient.

I'm sure the SPL used to be a two horse league, even though when Lennon took over it was practically a one horse league.

According to Dave Whelan, speaking on tv, Roberto Martinez will decide within the next 24 hours if he'll leave Wigan Athletic and, if he wants to leave, then Dave Whelan will release him immediately. Does that mean no compensation to be paid by his next club?

I have been reading svennys posts and I am very excited! But being an evertonian I am also very sceptical! Is svenny the real deal? Or is he just a red (or any fan) winding us up and doing a very good job of it? I hope it's not the latter but what started as new manager info has now moved to new buyers, new stadium discussions, two 10 million signings and now no longer interested in selling the club because its finally making money! I'm sure everyone can understand my doubts including svenny! I hope you are legit but as always I will try to contain my excitement till I see it on the everton site sign sealed and delivered!

I believe that Pereira's agent, who has apparently negotiated the contract, is Christophe Henrotay. He is the agent of the following players. :
Romelu Lukaku - Chelsea
Yohan Cabaye - Newcastle
Super Kev
Vadis Odidja-Ofoe - Brugge
Jonathan Legear - Terek Grozny
Daniel van Buyten - Bayern
Hmmm.
Lukaku, could be on loan to us next season? Involved in part of Fellaini deal?
Obvious connection with Vadis as well

Apparently in the Portuguese league, Vitor Pereira has won 24 drawn six and lost 0 with Porto this season and his overall record is 47 won 12 drawn and 1 loss. Considering having to work on a tight budget and sell their best players every year, he seems the perfect fit for me! Plus he may be able to bring some players from Porto such as Atsu (as apparently his dream is to play in the Premier League) and attract some big European stars to join.

Hi guys, going to sound like i'm making this up and to be honest if I was reading this from the outside i'd probably think it has been, however i'm a blue suffering and I know i'm not alone.
I have come into work today and a colleague has told me he believes he knows who the next Everton manager is, he is a wind up merchant so I was unsure whether to trust him or not.
He went on to say a friend of his is a coach for the youth team and spends a lot of him time in Finch Farm. (remember this is 2nd hand information) Last week he said a few cars all blacked out arrived in Finch Farm, although he couldn't see who it was (sounds pretty pointless to mention it but adds to the meat).
He also said he was speaking to his cousin (who has no interest in football) told him she'd just sold her house in Formby. She mentioned it was a Portuguese "Football man". (could be anyone!)
As I say he is a wind up merchant so I didn't believe him, however he pulled him phone out and showed me a bet he placed yesterday £50 on 18/1 and he placed a further £20 today while I was sitting with him on 11/2.
He's not one to part with his money easily, so i'm starting to sort of believing him, that mixed up with all the comments on here, surely there's got to be something in this.
I have no idea about players etc however that's what i've been told.

Last week Bill said that he would let the fans be heard and would make the best decision for Everton FC. ok bill then please do not appoint from within the club. It would be a backwards step imo. No disrespect to Stubbs or Neville who have been great for the club throughout the years, I can see them as an assistant to the new manager but not as 1st team manager. So bill to move this great club forward please appoint an experienced quality manager. Of course it's a difficult decision to make because we all want the best for the club and the best candidate for job and the best person for the job in my eyes is VITOR PEREIRA

I'm sorry, I'm sure I will get shot down for this, but is anyone else slightly offended at the notion of Phil Neville asking to manage our great club?
He has no managerial experience even remotely relevant for the role, but especially to take on a top 6 premier league club who are pushing for Europe every season.
Sure he has a lot of playing experience but that doesn't mean he is ready to manage Everton. And let's be honest his playing hasn't even been that great recently!
I think he's just embarrassing himself by asking.

However and a big however at that, Phil should know that we as fans have great expectations for the future and would scrutinize to the hilt when it comes to results and performances.

I read this site every single day and honestly laugh at a few peoplke claiming to "be from a reliable source, but can say who". I think that time wasters need to turn it in and let the people who do actually know something to let us fans know. Reading a few regarding an unamed manager who has held talks but cannot be named sounds really exciting. But regardless who the manager is, he will have my backing 110%. let's hope its done sooner rather than later so all these wild rumours can be put to bed. Onwards and upwards for the blue boys I think, and i'm getting really excited for next season. let's show the world that no matter who we appoint as manager, we still show the world that Everton FC truly have the best supporters on gods green earth. COYB!

I suppose it was inevitable. just a matter of time before it happened. the Irish examiner is now stating that "the toffees are now keen on oneil". Martin oneil. I have to say ain't a fan of his. that's just not very imaginative at all. I'd rather an internal replacement was given a crack! If bk appoints him then I think it has to go down as a lazy decision. jlaff
