A decent result against a City side that are unreal at home. Credit it to Howard for answering his critics, one game doesn't do much in the grand scheme of things, but fair play to him.

So 2 wins (cups, admittedly) and a draw against City, and we're looking okay. Our next few fixtures, bar the Chelsea and Liverpool game in a few weeks, are all very, very winnable, although nothing's a given in the Prem this season, just hope we can use the momentum and pick up some points!

Add a few names to the side, one's who will make an impact, get rid of some dead-wood, and we could have an exciting end to the season!

Decent result. Not many go to City and don't concede. I think whatever you expect from Martinez expect the exact opposite and that is what will happen.

At the beginning of the season I expected us to do badly. The opposite happened, we done very good against tough opposition.

Then I expected us to get good results from 'lower teams'. Again the opposite happened. We done very bad.

At the beginning of January I said I wouldn't be surprised if Martinez does well and gets decent results. We have hard fixtures in January and so far the results have been decent.

As I said expect the opposite to what you think will happen. Martinez always seems to do well against top teams. Then not so well against bottom of table teams.

First game in awhile we looked very solid in defence. Hopefully in that regard it is the beginning of plenty more of that. Thought from Howard to Barry were brilliant. Front 4 were good in first half. Went off the boil in the second half.

Hope the rest of the month goes well and Martinez keeps the defense good and tight like tonight.

Not conceding against Man City in the Ethihad is a rare thing for any team. The team and Martinez deserve plenty of praise for that alone.

Actually just checked. First time this season City have not scored at home!

They were scoreless 4 times away but first time at home was tonight. Well done Everton F. C.

Keep that momentum going and we will get somewhere.

I have to agree sb, Mo is a breath of fresh air, full blooded tackling seems to have become a thing of the past nowadays. All these prima donnas
who go down if their shin pads get touched need a good kick up the h**p.

got a really good feeling now we will go and beat Chelsea all pressure is on them let's all stay positive credit to Osman who got stick before ball was kicked, credit to Martinez and howard, thank god jags is back, and besic is leading us on lukaku will punish Chelsea and show them exactly what there missing double over the fake blues C. O. Y. B.

I am lost for words. We are actually starting to look like a team playing for each other again. I know Osman looks like he is running through thick porridge, but I do feel he links the attack to the defence well and gets the full back overlapping. Besic is just fantastic and I know we were hanging on in the end, but we had a couple of chances too. The main difference is obviously Jags and he will be difficult to replace. The balance is starting to show.

Almost all of us have had plenty to say over TH form. We all are experts but it doesn't take an expert to see that he had a top performance tonight.

no chance lad I will give him credit because he played really well tonite but there were no crosses played in for him to balls up or flap at but tonites good display does not make up for the last 18 months.

One good game in twenty, at 70 grand a week, that's not much of a bargain. Thanks Tim, but it's time to return to the MLS. Genuinly wish you well in whatever you do, but it realey is time.

Bluepaul. Strange post lad. You start by saying no chance then you post the very same point as me. You said he gets credit for how he played tonight, so did I. But you still disagree. That's confusing.

0-0 and yes Howard had a good game as did the defence as a whole. On the right track and hopefully Mr Martinez will get the balance right. Before we go any further any of the we told you so's about Martinez and Howard would just be jumping the gun. Still 11th and those below us closer to us.

{Ed025's Note - it was a good result DM, not really the night to have a moan imo mate..

13 Jan 2016 20:38:51
Not a bad first half there only Osman struggling he had a good effort on goal but he's lost his sharpness for me like I'd swap him at halftime for mirallas Lennon or even pienaar maybe.

the biggest problem 4 everton is not howard in goal but robbie the manager, happy to lose 4.3 playing great but dissapointed to win 1.0 playing not to well, his philosephy is crazy and will take us down. press conferance after 4.3 defeat. well rob u played well but lost 4.3 u must be really pissed off. ROBBIE. no not at all I am thrilled to lose 4.3 and play so well makes me ammensly proud to b everton boss a few more defeats like that and we go far wrong. press con after 1.0 win. well rob u didint play well but u won u must b really pleased. ROBBIE. no not at all I am massivley pissed off and I have told the players its not good enough and I have asked for a repaet performance of our 4.3 defeat last week or players will b dropped. what is everyones thoughts on the season so far? mine is simple really, defense is not experienced enough yet and its about time howard handed the reins over to robles. brilliant at attacking, but thnking barry is getting slow (besic looking better) . could have a good side next year with a clear out of barry, howard, hibbert, osman, pienaar, kone, mcgeady, naismith (i would of loaned him out until end of season) , good call on gibson to go out on loan (good squad player when fit and wouldn't get much for him) . buy a new keeper (ospina) , chambers, striker (remy) , playmaker/ left winger.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

13 Jan 2016 11:03:40
not a bad post but then you let yourself down big time when you mentiond ospina ffs avin we learned that we need a great keeper not another crap one ospina is effing awfull I would pick robles over him any day. my god I may even keep howard. I don't think you will get many blues agreeing with you on that one dazza mate. post away blues let's see wot u think.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2016 12:49:05
Barry included in the clear out.? I know he is getting on, but he has been one of best players this season, and has played almost every game, showing no signs of age. Besic on form deserves to come into one of the two deeper midfield roles, for sure, but at Barry's expense.?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2016 12:49:35
Dazza have to agree with Paul over ospina. Chambers not bad shout but remy? Never been great player
. we do need striker to take pressure off rom. another sharp or Lineker be fab. Ya never know maybe Robbie find a gem among the kids, mcaleny or Rodriguez or someone.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2016 13:27:12
Dazza a name to go missing from that list mate,

13 Jan 2016 13:37:10
I don't think we can offload so many players in the one go as we need players with experience like Osman and Barry in the squad. Barry is playing well this year and will b valuable again next season . We should offload 3 or 4each transfer window starting with mc Geady, hibbert Naismith and Gibson and replace them. In summer ship out Howard, pienaar, Mirallas (if he not playing) and replace. Imo that the best way to ensure we continually strengthen each transfer window and also Do not sell any of our talented players at any price as we are as good as any team in PL. oh I nearly forgot replace Martinez in summer too and get vg manager to take us to next level which is top 4 on a regular basis.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2016 14:23:42
said it all along BluePaul. Football is a competitive sport where winning is considered a plus and losing considered a minus. Yes we are playing attractive football but ours is not getting us results hence needs tweaking a bit. RM does not need to stray far from his footballing philosophy to achieve positive results it is just that he is either to obstinate, proud or thick to accept anyone elses view but his own. We have been lucky so far that there are at least going to be 3 clubs below us without the ability to get above us.
