I'm a big admirer of Neves, I flagged him up on here last year before he moved to Wolves. Let's now see how he gets on in the EPL this coming season. I think (and hope) he starts crap then performs exceptionally from their 2nd game onwards.

If I'm not mistaken he was told he had to sign for them by his agent who somehow has something to do with wolves maybe one of the eds can shed light on the murky world of wolves football club.

{Ed002's Note - Neves was not told he had to join Wolves, but it was made clear that he was told it would be a good stepping stone to a leading club and the wages would be better than in Portugal. The long-term interest in the player, regardless of everyone and his dog having him watched by scouts, was from Chelsea and Juventus. Neither club wanted him last summer, nor did the other side he was offered to, Manchester United, at that time. That left Wolves as the viable option and the move went ahead. Right now Jorge is still "assisting" Wolves by negotiating with lawyer Juan de Dios Cresp Perez, who is representing Bruno de Carvalho and Sporting, looking for an agreement whereby Wolves can sign Rui Patricio and have his registration transferred. It will have started with compensation being offered to the value of RP as an intangible asset to Sporting rather than what Sporting value him at - it may be enough but sporting will start at €18M which is the transfer fee that had been previously agreed. Sporting will also make clear that they will not pay any fees to JM which means this could yet turn out to be a costly deal for Wolves.

The Football League were asked at the start of the year to investigate the relationship between Jorge Mendes and his business Gestifute and Wolves from a legal perspective, given the regulations surrounding third parties not being allowed to influence transfers. They concluded that as Jorge Mendes and Gestifute was simply an advisor to the club and the owners (Fosun), then all was fine - which it wouldn't be if he were an employee (director etc.) of either the club or Fosun. This was rather a surprise to me at the time, and a surprise to JM as well, as it was expected that at the very least the EFL would have issued some guidance and set down what could and could not happen. Leeds were one of the clubs that raised the original issue and they complained that the EFL had not addressed the matter - only for the EFL to go on the back foot to defend their position and say that they investigated and answered the specific question asked. The surprise to me was that they appear to have considered that Jorge was not employed or a part owner of Wolves and Fosun but completely ignored the ownership of his business Gestifute - which is part owned by a company which is itself owned by Fosun chairman Guo Guangchang. More than a tenuous link I am afraid and one the EFL should have dealt with. Interestingly, under FA rules the Premier League will have an obligation to look in to this matter as well. It will be interesting to see what happens there or if, as I suspect, it all goes rather quiet. In the bigger picture, China will continue to increase their influence over the world-wide game and will look to invest further in to clubs at the high-end of the game.}

Cheers ED my only argument is can you see any of the top 6 stand by and watch if wolves however unlikely break into the top 6 next season they will put the FA under massive pressure as it all sounds very dodgy to me reg Neves when he moved to wolves I thought a lot of clubs where I treated in him not just champions s league clubs but clubs who were close to getting it yet in the advice of his agent who has ties to wolves told him to go there so isn't that basically the same thing as being told to go to them.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any of the “top 6” having concerns about Wolves and it is nothing to do with the FA at all. As I said he was not told to join Wolves - that was his choice.}

Isn't this exactly what we are trying to do with another 'super agent' though (forgotten his name) . Surely not too many fellow blues will be moaning if we are successful with our progression because of this.
