We all know we got a pittance for Barkley, but quite what Joe Anderson is hoping to gain god only knows, he chose not to sign last Summer, with only a few months left on his contract Everton did well to get what they got, Everton had the option to say no, they took the money, did the same not happen with us when we got Sandro, would any club pay an extra £20 Million if that player had half a year left on his contract.

When you shove a contract under Barkleys nose and say sign or you will be sold then chastise the player in public then we are part to blame for not sorting a contract out earlier and allowing it go into a final year.

Seems we have learned by giving Davies and Kenny five year contracts.

We ballsed up with Barkley and Goslings contracts, let's hope we never allow this to happen again allowing contracts to go into their final year

Good luck with your letter Joe but I feel we are partly to blame in our cockup and calling Barkleys bluff.

{Ed025's Note - totally agree baz..

Maybe we should be a bit more stringent with buy out clauses for our top players.

The reality is he did his medical in the summer, passed so but he walked out for reasons unknown. What he did was accept a payoff to sign in January for a lot less so he and his agent get a nice kick back.
What is ridiculous about the letter is that why wouldn’t he and more fool our club for allowing it. Nothing illegal happened, we should have said take him now in the summer or he’ll be a free agent next summer and loads of clubs would be in for him so if you really want him take him now, if you’re willing to gamble do that. Smart business by Chelsea, awful from us.

Sandro had a release clause so offer had to be accepted. Think the issues raised are with the agent rather than Ross or Chelsea.

I agree with 99% of what you say Baz but I'm guessing the club got a peed when they couldn't contact Barkleys agent for 6 months and had a gut feeling he wanted out as neither Barkley or his agent had enough class about them to be honest with the club so when they finally got in touch it was a take it or leave it scenario and we all know which way he went good luck to the guy as I want him to succeed as he is a local lad.

So basically an agents job is ignore your phone calls for a few months and get paid £7million. Sign me up for some of that.

Do I really need to keep reading waffle and sour grapes about Barkley? He's been gone for an age, get over it. Good riddance to over hyped mediocrity.
