Always worked for me. If in doubt put it out. And now and again take one for the team, you don't just stand there and wave them through. Two best defenders in my Grand Sons Team are he and another lad and both get man of the match between them most weeks, yes they can play a bit or bring the ball out but invariably they look up see there is nothing on so row Z it goes or down the opposition goalkeepers throat.

Maybe so Cruncher or maybe 'somewhere else'. The point is you want to hear them and their Coach (s) . You cock up and there is nowhere to hide. And that is how it should be. Everton have been messed up good and proper and need to get back to basics and discipline. Rooney if you are up front stay the F there, Scheiderlin Gueye you are DMs in front of the back 4 protection stay the F there, what was Schneiderlin doing today wandering around like he had lost his sheep dog. Same for most of them to be honest. If a pattern and adjustments is laid out stick with it. Sorry to blather on.
