As far as I can see there are two different but linked issues involved in the Watford case.
1. Did EFC break the rules? If they did that ought to be fairly straightforward to prove.
2. Did the alleged rule break cause Watford’s collapse in form? This appears to be virtually unprovable. It might appear to be a logical conclusion to draw but it could have been any number of other factors. I very much doubt that the CPS would take a case with such little hard evidence to court!

Mashamblue

{Ed002's Note - (1) Everton are not denying the illegal approach. (2) Watford are not seeking compensation, the CPS is not involved, and this is simply anecdotal and not the issue in hand.

The rules are simple and clear. Everton breached those rules.}

1.) 26 Jul 2018 15:16:11
Ed002: Sorry to keep on boring you on this topic, but if Everton are not denying the illegal approach that Watford are complaining about - and Watford have stated that they know they forfeited the right for compensation (by not following the proposed arbitration process) - what is stopping the authorities from penalising Everton for the illegal approach and be done with it? Do the authorities have to determine the relative seriousness of the “illegal approach” (even if not denied) in order to determine a fair and proportionate sanction - and do they like to take their time while hoping the complaint is resolved (dropped? ) without them?

{Ed002's Note - The authorities woiuld need to form a Board or Commission to deal with the matter, and they would need statements from all concerned parties, Watford, Everton, Marco Silva and Carlos Concalves in order to have all of the facts available to them. There is no measure of the "seriousness" of the approach and it will take whatever time it takes to agree how it will be dealt with.}

2.) 26 Jul 2018 15:26:29
Ed002: Thanks for the explanation.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

3.) 26 Jul 2018 14:10:12
No I wasn’t suggesting the CPS were involved. I was merely pointing out that the two events (I. e rule break and collapse in form) cannot be proven to be connected even though it might be attractive to some people as an explanation. And I think Watford are indeed trying to connect the two!

{Ed002's Note - Watford's compliant is regarding an illegal approach for their manager by Everton. Nothing else.}

4.) 26 Jul 2018 14:10:44
Any thoughts on what the repercussions might be? Are they angling for a points deduction?

{Ed002's Note - If it goes to a Commission hearing the options they have for any punishment are:
- reprimand
- an unlimited fine
- suspend the club from playing in League Matches or any matches in competitions
- deduct points
- impose a transfer ban
- recommend that the League expels the club from membership}

My wife is a life long Coventry fan and I’ve seen a lot of Gykores over the last couple of seasons. Yes he’s been a good player in the Championship but there’s plenty of Sky Blues supporters who had serious doubts about his ability to step up to Premier League level. He’s a good hold up player but lacks real pace and doesn’t have the killer instinct that makes a top level striker. If he had the qualities needed he wouldn’t be off to Lisbon but he’d be the subject of a bidding war in England. Forget him and move on.

Fact is he wanted to go elsewhere, so whether he would have been good or not doesn't really matter.

Biggest worry is that we aren't even able to attract Championship players at the moment.

I’m sure all Blues will share the sadness surrounding the Leicester tragedy. Having spent a large part of my adult life in the county before moving to North Yorkshire 8 years ago, I was delighted by their amazing success two years ago. I can’t even begin to imagine the levels of grief that those closest to those lost must now be feeling. Football has lost a very decent and honourable man and I hope and pray that his son, when he has started to come to terms with what has happened is able carry on his Father’s legacy.

I’d be interested to know what interpretation you would give to the quote below (taken directly from Watford’s statement) .

“We believe this situation is not about a compensation figure but the principle of making a stand when the actions of one Premier League club completely undermine and cause intrinsic damage to a fellow member club. “

What is the “intrinsic damage” would you say?

Mashamblue

{Ed002's Note - Anecdotal that the illegal and unprofessional approach by Everton football club caused distraction to their manager and the club. The complaint is a specific breach of a specific regulation. I am not so sure why you are all struggling with this.}

1.) 26 Jul 2018 17:56:43
That being the case, then why did we hire the guy, if our alleged approach caused his professionalism to implode. This is a Manager/ Coach that does not tend to stay long anywhere, hardly the consistency and long term plan our Club is apparently after. I am playing devils advocate in this, so a grown up conversation please.

{Ed002's Note - Aside from a period at Estoril he was a journeyman player and a journeyman manager but he was the one recommended to Everton and he was the one the club went after.}

2.) 26 Jul 2018 18:46:15
Ed2. Ignoring all this tapping up business for a moment. Do you believe Everton finally took the proper advice and appointed the right manager?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure. There has to be a decent sized risk for someone who has made so many moves in a short period of time.}

3.) 26 Jul 2018 19:02:29
chrs ed002, they were my thoughts. We shall as ever see what we will see. For myself, never again do I wish to see planes with banners and the booing of our own players.

For me the 3 best performers for England were Pickford, McGuire and Trippier. Not sure about the order!

Mashamblue

1.) 15 Jul 2018 22:22:39
I think Trippier was the surprising performer for me but I’m not sure I agree with him being solid defensively and top England performer. I was very surprised at his age when I heard that too. I thought he was circa 21!

I thought Ashley young was solid all tournament tbf.

Pickford was great and Maguire after the first game was a unit back there and smart with the ball most of the time.

Loftus-Cheek looked lively when coming on as a sub but nothing much happened as I result did it? I can’t really remember now!

Sad to hear of the passing of Ray Wilson. Another great player and humble guy lost from the famous team. Long may he be remembered. R. I. P.

Totally agree. Two best fullbacks in league. Wilson and Wright.

It works both ways I think. A lot of posters also are on the receiving end of patronising and offensive comments from some Editors.

My wife is a life long Sky Blue so I’ve seen quite a few Coventry games on Sky. He’s a decent player in the Championship and he is used to playing in a side which tries to play good football . He plays under a good manager and is a key part in a side that never gives up the fight.
He would make a good back up but I don’t see him challenging to be first choice.
Just in case we do sign him, I’m fairly sure his name is pronounced
Jock-eh-resh.

For goodness sake-please try to keep some sort of perspective on these events! I think Everton FC are a long long way from "becoming a laughingstock" . On the contrary, as has already been said, we tend to be seen as a well run club which generally does the right thing and is making genuine progress. None of us know what is happening with Ross Barkley-and that's probably just how it needs to be!

Calm down! Firstly he wasn't poor and secondly he hasn't said anything of the sort. He has apparently said that club may not be able to stop Lukaku leaving IF he has made his mind up! He has also apparently said the he is sure Everton will find a way of dealing with it! So no need to start slagging the player is there?

Maybe there could be new banners with “
Fight like Your Fans and Do It for Seamus”

Just maybe this will be a turning point!

I’ve got a couple of cans in my cellar he’s welcome to have. Keep up the good work (although of course I abhor vandalism of any type)

I think the appointment of Marcel Brands was absolutely crucial to the future development of the club. He will bring experience and more importantly stability if and when Silva moves on. Steve Walsh was not a D of F, he was a very good scout but was not necessarily equipped with all the other skills needed in this key role. I for one am really looking forward to future transfer windows! (can’t believe I’ve just said that!).

I remember watching the 66 cup final in horror and running up to our attic in tears at half time only for my Dad to coax me down to watch the second half with a promise of a glass of Jusoda and a jam butty! The rest as they say is history. I’d agree with the OP. What I’ve always remembered through all the low times is a club which had pride in itself and whose fans supported the team whatever dross was served up on the pitch. Am I getting old and nostalgic? Maybe. But what is probably true is the recognition that those days have gone and the days when HK would celebrate a win by taking the team out for a Chinese and s few beers are now in the past. We need to move on.

You’ve had a thumbs down from me for using derogatory language which is presumably aimed at the clubs manager. You’re supposed to be a supporter! How about supporting then! And yes that means players, staff and management too!
