L'Equipe reporting that we have established contact with former Lyon manager Rudi Garcia. So another potential candidate possibly. The search continues.

Probably just nonsense but Manuel Pellegrini (currently Real Betis manager) is a new name I've seen linked today. I know he's had successful spells at Real Madrid and Manchester City but it went downhill at West Ham United for him.

Howie1878

1.) 10 Jun 2021 17:40:28
Went downhill at City too.

{Ed025's Note - like a fat kid on a slide.. :)

2.) 10 Jun 2021 21:24:21
Well with that analogy it would be a fat kid on a slide that gets stuck and ends up costing us a fortune to get him out!

Everton players in the England Euro squad Pickford is in, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in but Ben Godfrey misses out. Picks an injured Maguire though and 4 right backs. Southgate lost the plot.

1.) 01 Jun 2021 17:19:12
Sorry meant to post this on the banter page. Gutted for Ben Godfrey. Good luck to Pickford and DCL. Hopefully they will not pick up any injuries.

2.) 01 Jun 2021 17:23:37
That implies he had the plot to begin with.

3.) 01 Jun 2021 17:39:46
Lost all interest in England a long time ago it no longer means anything to most of the players.

4.) 01 Jun 2021 18:29:44
Don't enjoy watching England anymore. In fact I haven't enjoyed watching them since they knocked Clough back for the job.

01 Jun 2021 16:17:52
Well it looks as if he's going according to Fabrizio Romano.

Ancelotti > Real, here we go!

Carlo Ancelotti is set to come back at Real Madrid

The agreement on the termination of his contract with Everton is set to be completed, the two clubs are in direct contact then Carlo will re-join Real Madrid.

- Official announcement expected as soon as the termination of the agreement with Everton will be signed.

- Ancelotti won’t create any problem on his personal terms with Real Madrid and he’s ready to come back.

Liverpool Echo reporting that we are in talks to try and convince Carlo to stay. My view is if he wants to go then let him go. I do not want anyone at the club who doesn't want to be here. Who we will get in as a replacement time will tell.

Howie1878

1.) 01 Jun 2021 16:42:55
If he goes get as much compensation as possible and make sure Iwobi going to them is also part of the deal.

2.) 01 Jun 2021 16:44:49
Weird that that’s exactly what Carlo said about the squad.
Maybe he was including himself in that.

3.) 01 Jun 2021 17:11:51
Sad to see he wants to join the Super League! But as he said last week we can't have people their who don't want to be. Might have saved us a large compensation package in November judging by team performance last couple months. Good luck and thanks for trying I say.

{Ed025's Note - "see you traitor and dont let the door hit you on the arse" i say cookie ..

4.) 01 Jun 2021 17:36:36
Totally agree Ed025. If he does go and looking more and more likely it’ll be a smack in the face to all the fans who believed him when he said he wanted to build things here and be have built a team to compete when in new stadium.

Also to publicly criticise the ESL then to jump ship to join a club still in it will be ultimate hypocrisy.

I also don’t get why he’d go - can’t see it being for money as Real Madrid allegedly skint and we already pay him £220k per week or similar.

Real also got the potential UEFA sanctions ahead for not pulling out of ESL.

If he does go then he has led us all a merry dance

I think the silence from both the club and him suggests it’s all but a done deal.

{Ed025's Note - he was actually 5th choice as well dan, good riddance i say mate..

5.) 01 Jun 2021 17:43:12
I thought I would be gutted he's gone but it tells me all I need to know that I'm not bothered at all good luck to him at Madrid I'm sure he will have a nice 2 years before they get shut so what happens reg compensation will they have to pay a one off fee or do they buy his contract out either way that should help our finances a little and as for who would I go for either Rafa or Nuno for me.

6.) 01 Jun 2021 19:12:30
Ha ha ha ha class Woburn.

16 Jul 2020 23:46:27
Phil McNulty on BBC Sport saying Everton are in talks with Southampton over a deal for Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg - but could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur. Ancelotti was asked about this and said: "I don't want to talk about this because I think it is unfair to talk about a player at a different club in this moment. ". £14 million plus add ons it mentions.

We need to offload some of the surplus to requirements squad members and it's going to be a challenge. Hard times ahead.

1.) 17 Jul 2020 10:05:16
We've been linked with him for a while but Spurs are meant to be his preference, if you believe the press that is.

It might be easier at this point to list the managers we haven’t been linked with.

02 Jun 2021 15:01:21
Heard that Spurs have contacted Antonio Conte, talks ongoing. PSG standing firm over Pochettino.

Realistically I don't think we could attract the likes of Conte either. There is way too much work to do to get us anywhere near the side he'd want to manage. He isn't a manager that sticks around either but he wouldn't tolerate the abysmal performances we've been witnessing.

Really don't know what the club wants anymore. I feel we've lost our identity at times. Whoever gets appointed needs time to implement some sort of structure and a plan moving forwards. We need to see progress or be forever stuck in mid table mediocrity.

Howie1878

1.) 02 Jun 2021 15:49:31
I think we lost our identity the day Moyes left.

Club needs a new identity and to get managers and players to fit that

What we need to not do, is build the club around the managers and players, but rather the other way around.

2.) 02 Jun 2021 15:52:19
Amen to that. I really hope the next one is more of a Brands appointment also.

01 Jun 2021 20:06:04
I don't see anyone recommending Paulo Fonseca anymore. We were linked with him before Silva's appointment and he has since left Roma so is a free agent. I'm so fed up of the manager merry go round now. We need stability in order to build but the big question is who can give us the platform to do so? Whoever we get I will support them nonetheless.

I am disappointed in the way Ancelotti has left after what he said about the project, the area, fans, etc but most people would do the same when Real Madrid come calling. Perhaps he feels he has unfinished business there.

I don't know who we will replace him with but would like to see a better attacking style of football. Regardless of the good points to game ratio Carlo had, the brand of football at times was bloody terrible to watch. First few games of the season were the exception. Also how mental is it that now two former managers are employed by Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Howie1878

1.) 01 Jun 2021 20:26:33
I wonder if the players new he was leaving long ago hence all the bad performances.

{Ed025's Note - no skylark,he was only 5th choice for madrid and the bad performances were down to negative tactics, mediocre players and a general lack of commitment mate..

2.) 01 Jun 2021 21:02:30
I used to get slated on here for saying that ed 😂😂👍.

{Ed025's Note - not by me you never mate..

3.) 01 Jun 2021 22:26:19
I was wondering this or something like it. According to the real Madrid rumours site everyone knew back in January that Zidane would be out at the end of the season. Carlo would have known that and it must have crossed his mind and others' that they'd come calling.
That's not the same as saying he knew he'd get the job. And is not an excuse for the poor 2nd half of the season.

But I wonder if they had already ruled out the top 3 or 4 choices (Pochetino, Conte, Raul, Gutti) for various reasons and whether they'd already been speaking to Everton and Carlo or his agent over the last few weeks. I find it hard to believe that Everton hadn't seen this as a realistic possibility given the situation at Madrid and how results were going at Everton. And the whole compensation issue seems to have been resolved very quickly which makes it look like things had already been ironed out.

01 Jun 2021 18:09:26
Well we are now without a manager. Taken from BBC Sport.

Carlo Ancelotti has left Everton to become head coach of Real Madrid for a second time.
The 61-year-old, who managed Real Madrid for two years between 2013 and 2015, has left Everton after 18 months in charge at Goodison Park.
He succeeds Zinedine Zidane at Real and the move leaves Everton searching for a sixth permanent manager in five years.
Ancelotti thanked Everton's staff and fan and said the move represented "an unexpected opportunity".
"I would like to thank the board of directors, the players, and the Evertonians for the tremendous support they have all given me during my time at the club, " he added.
"I have complete respect for everyone associated with Everton and hope they can achieve the exciting opportunities they have in front of them.
"While I have enjoyed being at Everton I have been presented with an unexpected opportunity which I believe is the right move for me and my family at this time. "

Previously I can remember reading an article which quoted Fabrizio Romano who said Everton have shown an interest in Zeki Celik (RB) of Lille and made contact with his agent. This was around the January window though so I'm assuming that this player is off the list of potential targets. Coleman (who has been a fantastic servant) needs replacing and can't be expected to play the majority of games anymore so it's imperative we get a RB in.

Galtier is rumoured to have an agreement in principle to be joining
Nice. I'm not sure how true that is though or if it was from a credible source. All a guessing game at the moment as we don't know who the club have targeted apart from Nuno Espirito Santo. The waiting game continues.

I'm not even sure Rafa has been considered by the club even with all his experience.

I know it doesn't really mean much and take it with a pinch of salt but the odds on Graham Potter and Eddie Howe have been significantly changed this afternoon. Probably I suspect due to the Nuno Espirito Santo going to Palace rumours. I would prefer Potter over Howe myself.

He also said

"Everton will decide on Keans future only after appointing the new manager - price tag has always been around €45m. "

I would have thought Moise Kean wants to leave regardless of who we appoint. Doesn't want to be at the club so just move him on but get the best possible price we can.

Well I see that now Fabrizio Romano has tweeted this below.

Real Madrid are in talks with Ancelotti in order to appoint him as new manager, confirmed. No agreement signed yet as he's under contract with EFC - but Real are pushing for Ancelotti back. No direct contact with Antonio Conte.

From what I've seen various articles (last week) suggest that Conte was favourite to replace Zidane but maybe not so. This potentially could be bad news for Everton. All of the rumours were just that until today where it certainly seems to have gathered momentum. I'll follow this with interest but my view is simple. We simply cannot afford to keep changing managers, we need stability in order to build for the future.

Howie1878

{Ed002's Note - Approaches were not made directly but through a third party. They first approached Max Allegri and Joachim Loew but neither are available. They have been "warned off" Mauricio Pochettino by PSG although are talking with Spurs. I very much doubt that Antonio Conte would be able to work with Perez. That will take them down to CA on their list.}

People forget that he'd already held talks with Palace before the news of Ancelotti's departure broke. We don't know what's happened although many reports saying talks broke down due to him wanting to bring too many backroom staff with him. He is still our number one target as far as I'm aware.

Hasn't had a consistent run of games no but I think most fans have already wrote him off as a poor signing.

Moise Kean is another situation that needs to be rectified. PSG want another season loan for him but Everton are stalling to see what the next potential manager wants to do (allegedly) . It's quite clear he sees his future elsewhere and doesn't want to play for us so it should be a straight up sale rather than another loan deal. Sell him and reinvest the money back into the squad.

I remember watching Graham Potters Swansea side playing good passing but possession based football. He did wonders at Ostersund and decently at Swansea. Brighton has been a tougher gig but in a more competitive league it's fair to say. Seems a likeable guy as well. I wouldn't be against him stepping up to a bigger club. My main concern (whoever gets appointed) would be the possibility of not being able to attract top players, but this is where Brands comes in.

Let's be honest we aren't the most enticing of options at the moment for players. I'm still wondering are we going to lose any players like James or Allan? Hopefully not and we can build on what we already have.

There's no doubt he has talent but I'm not sure we were a good fit for him anyway GB. He did well in his PSG loan spell but needs to consistently reproduce that. Admittedly it's probably for the best that we part ways with him. It remains to be seen where he goes and for how much. Heard all of the PSG want him stories and possibly back to Juventus with other players included as a makeweight, etc. I'll believe it when it's announced but I'll be very surprised if he doesn't leave.

I've seen a few links last week but it's slowly stopping being reported. You can never tell in football I suppose. Worry not JBtoffee as news is below.

Ed002 has covered this today on the rumours page. He might be on the list in 5th or 6th but it is unlikely.
