So looks like Thierry Small didn't turn up for training last week as he engineers a move away from the club for me that's like a big neon sign of I'm trouble and I would get shut as soon as possible and good riddance as if he's acting like this at 16 what's he going to be like if he reaches his potential.

As far as I'm aware he can only sign the Everton deal when he turns 17 on August 1st. As you say he could already be looking for another club to go to by then or has. Trouble is that he plays LB. He isn't going to get in the team before Digne or Nkounkou except possibly cup games maybe or major injuries. I'm sure we'll see what happens soon enough.

Has this been confirmed, BMD? I've seen the original article has been attributed to the Athletic and I've seen some of the usual, unreliable websites running with it. There's also an article in the echo but it only refers to the original source and doesn't confirm nor deny the story. The echo says that he has recently changed agent so, if the story is true, he's being badly advised right now.

Benitez may have won trophies, titles in the past but we are looking at success nearly ten years ago his recent tenures have not been so good by any means. His teams play football very similar to SA which was not accepted by the fans. Even when CA played a similar style fans were berating him so it will happen. If Benitez gets the job then the fan base will be split about the appointment and the first sign of difficulty there will be fans calling for him to be replaced. We have seen during C.V. how much fans can affect the performance of the team so that will not be a good thing. A divisive manager is just not what we need right now.

Personally I was hoping we would have gone for a manager who would have brought his own coaches with him. Nothing against Duncan, but with him still sitting there it's almost like nothings changed.

Benitez is a professional and wants to do well at Everton. James is our best player by a stretch, it would be foolish to want him out of the club and would cost more than we could recoup to replace his assists and goals. We'd need to spend 20-30million on a right sided player to get as much productivity.

I thoroughly concur with the above observations and remarks.
James would I believe be as happy as Larry in a number 10 spot rather than out on the right (he might drift thre ocasionally just for fun and I wouldn't object as it might allow the bait a switch tactic used so well last season whereby we overloaded the right and draw defenders there before then James finding a marauding Digne or Richarlison or DCL coming in from the left into space. So if either of our recent acquisitions can be effective on the RW and especially if we can get this chap Dumfries (apparently a native of the Netherlands despite his Scottish sounding name) I can see a well balanced 1st team emerging.
Let's suppose Senor Benitez chooses to go with 3 CBs and 2 wing backs as is frequently suggested and have DCL up front ahead of James at 10 and Richarlison on the left flank, doubling up with Digne and occassionally cutting in and a decent RW doing the same on the other flank with Dumfries then the only question is Who is the other player? as that makes 9 outfielders. My preference would be for Doucoure over Allan or Gbamin. So basically a 5-1-3-1
Of course, El Jefe may go for a 4-2-3-1 ie just 2 CBs and that might allow for 2 deeper lying midfielders. so there would be room for both Doucoure and Allan/ Gbamin. That would be my personal preference and I think that interestingly Italy and Spain both looked among the best teams in the Euros with just a back 4. I actually think, done right it is more secure than a back 3 as it allows the extra player in midfield (whereas a back 5 can invite teams on a bit) while at the same time being more able to shift into attack.

Just had a listen to the Merseyside phone in and I'm embarrassed by some of our fans with one saying he had given his season tickets away and will never step foot inside Goodison until Rafa has gone and another saying he hopes we lose every game until Rafa is sacked that's right let's get ourselves relegated because the new manager once managed Liverpool and once said we where a small club Jesus what is wrong with our fanbase what I did find funny was one lad who said he will never go again when asked what if Rafa gets Everton to a cup final will he go the lad just ignored the question and rambled on about something else ha ha these fans are a joke and I garauntee if Rafa gets us European football and a cup win these same fans will tell the world they always wanted Rafa and take delight in winding the reds up.

With the greatest respect to CP they haven't a stronger squad than us, there are so many of their squad with contracts expiring the rebuilding job is harder than even ours and they don't have a better potential than us
Either we've realised Nunes isn't the right fit and not offered him the job or he's proving he isn't the manager we thought he was by making this decision

For us? We have just 10 weeks before the season starts again. Any new manager will be A NEW MANAGER, who hasn't seen the squad train, who will be hampered in signing people with the Euro's and then players wanting a break. We need a new manager fast.
