Apparently Rodriguez will miss the first few matches with his new club, as he was injured throwing shirts to the clubs supporters.

{Ed025's Note - love it latch..

Playing five at the back left us to light in midfield. Once we changed that we looked a lot better balanced, and it allowed Doucoure to get further forward.
Great comeback and some great goals. Also have to say Gomes looked very composed when he came on (apart from his dodgy shot) . All bodes well for the future.

1.) 14 Sep 2021 07:21:16
Thought Gomes was terrible when he came on. Missed a sitter, wasted a golden opportunity by blasting over rather than sliding in doucore. Gave the ball away numerous times.

{Ed025's Note - i thought he was ok dan, not great but got involved and shored up the midfield mate..

2.) 14 Sep 2021 07:53:09
Interesting how we all have different opinions regarding players - personally thought he had more bad touches than good ones.
However the change of system going to a back 4 made a real difference and it’s so refreshing to have a manager who can read the game and make appropriate changes.

{Ed025's Note - a proactive manager is something we have been missing for years dan, hopefully he can carry it on mate..

3.) 14 Sep 2021 11:02:42
Gomes was calm on the ball which is what we were lacking. As for his miss, at least he was there to have a go. The guy had a good game, no idea what you were watching.

4.) 14 Sep 2021 11:37:50
I was watching the match Brass. All a matter of opinions and I didn’t think he did that well when he came on.
Think the change of shape made all the difference not him coming on.

5.) 14 Sep 2021 11:40:33
Imo he had a bit of a mixed bag. Obviously both his misses were terrible for different reasons and although he wasn't great he did change the game by giving us that extra body in midfield and linked up with the 3 forward players. I also thought he kept possession really well. I think he will do a decent job as a sub for the rest of the season.

6.) 14 Sep 2021 14:53:09
I thought he did a reasonable job, and to be fair to him scoring has never been his strong suit, probably only got a couple since he's been here.

Since Mr Moshiri took over the club Everton have spent approximately 530m. They have recouped in sales approximately 285m. Giving them a deficit of approximately 245m.
However, of those players bought 19 are still at the club, and 13 are still in the first team squad. The total cost of these players was approximately 370m.
Of the six not in the first team squad 2 are out on loan, 3 have injuries and 1 is assisting the plod.
The hidden cost in all of this however is with free transfer players. Wages in the past have been astronomical Bernard 120k a week for example. Are the club learning from this? Well James at 200k suggests not.
However, recent free transfers have shown that the club are learning, by offering shorter contracts with a more realistic pay structure. And Brands now appears to be targeting younger players who will come with a more realistic price tag and wage structure.
I think by the end of this season the club will be in a much better place. Some of the high earners will have been sold or run down their contracts, but the core of the squad will still be there. Plus the potential will be there to add to the squad.
So not all doom and gloom my blue brothers. The only cherry on the cake this season would be if we qualified for European football. Let's just see what happens. ??.

1.) 09 Sep 2021 14:08:18
You have to remember the issue is 2 fold.

1. Wages. Simply our wage bill has been too high for a while now, clearly progress is being made but slowly.

2. Fees. The reason for those silly long contracts you mention earlier is that it spreads the impact of the transfer fee over a longer period of time, which helped lessen the impact of our early spending under Moshiri. The problem is, that as you also mention we still have a lot of those players at the club, or have only recently got rid of them. This means that all those expensive fees we have been paying are still hitting us hard. Short of selling a key asset this will probably hamstring us for another year or 2 at least now.

2.) 09 Sep 2021 14:36:03
Sorry Bob but not sure you can actually say Brands is targeting younger players.
We may have been linked with numerous young players but if you look at this window Gray 25, Townsend 30, Rondon 31. Begovic 34 and Lonegran 37 wouldn’t class any of those as youngsters.

I’m happy with the recruitment this window apart from lack of right back. I’m glad to see we’ve bought players in positions (apart from rightback) we need and ones who appear to have a desire to be at the club and not solely for the wages.

3.) 09 Sep 2021 15:50:34
Gingerdan all those players you mentioned were either signed for free, or as is Grays case very little money. I feel these are purely viewed as short term measures for the club. Efcone I honestly don’t think it will take that long. By the end of this season we will be back on track.

4.) 09 Sep 2021 16:22:31
Agree Bob some big contracts end at the end of this season. Hopefully club can then progress.

5.) 09 Sep 2021 16:23:43
Not sure it matters that they were signed on a free or for low money, just our recruitment the window just gone is contradictory to what you were saying regards Brands targeting youngsters.

As I said I’m happy with the recruitment, players all that appear to want to be with us on sensible contracts and none of the previous recruiting of paying over the odds or ridiculous wages to get them to come to us.

I’m very hopeful of a positive season as the team looks the fittest it has in a long time but not only that they actually look like a team all playing with each other we’re previously sometimes you’d swear when they were on the pitch that was the first time they’d met each other or played together.

{Ed025's Note - i agree dan..

6.) 09 Sep 2021 18:05:00
I hope you are right Bob, but by my reckoning we still have around 300m of players signed in the last 4 seasons on our books.

For simplicity sake if these fees are all spread over 5 year contracts that is still 60m a season to hit us, that doesn't leave much wiggle room to spend more money, unless we sell or generate more income from somewhere.

The real win is if Rafa can turn those players back into 300m worth of talent and then we won't need to spend much?.

7.) 09 Sep 2021 18:17:38
Definitely be in a better financial position come the summer. Few players will be out of contract, as Woburn says.

8.) 09 Sep 2021 18:58:46
Rodriguez is on 140k a week down from the 220k he got at real Madrid.

9.) 09 Sep 2021 19:19:33
Players who’s contracts expire June 2022.
Rodriguez, Sigurdsson, Kenny, Tosun, Delph, Branthwaite, Begovic and Lonergan.
Rodriguez and Begovic club have option for one year extension.
If they keep Branthwaite then let the rest go that’s about 500k per week.
500k for players who hardly feature in the first team.

10.) 09 Sep 2021 23:14:15
If Kenny goes Bob we'll need 2 right backs next season.
Most likely another centre mid too.
That's going to cost us Conservatively 150k a week.
Should still save a chunk though.

11.) 10 Sep 2021 10:02:43
Smit think as long as we stay the right side of that 500k then we’re good. We don’t necessarily need cheaper options, just need to be smarter transfers and wages paid.
500k though in one week. Crazy!

12.) 10 Sep 2021 19:45:05
Agreed crazy money.

31 Aug 2021 20:54:01
Van De Beek?
Stop, just stop.
Could we just close the window now please.

30 Aug 2021 16:54:59
Perhaps clubs leave purchasing to the last minute to keep players wages off the wage bill.
I mean if a player is on 100k a week, then that's a saving of 400k a month. Close on a million over last couple of months.
Just a thought.

It’s not the fee, it’s the wages that are the problem. We can’t add to our wage bill without getting players off it first.

We may never get to find out if this guy will ever be an important player. Knowing our luck he will eventually get fit and turn out to be bang average.

Don’t think you would be that far off the mark their sa90 mate.
Looking at it another way, think If we actually made money on the James and Moise deals then Brands has done pretty well there.
Think the next couple of windows will give us a clearer indication of how they plan to progress. Do they go for younger players with potential as in the lads from Rangers and Sheffield Utd. These types of players would certainly be on a lower wage. Or do they carry on buying “experienced” players on high wages.
Hopefully they have learned from their past mistakes now, and so the club can move forward again.
