Crazy game tonight.

Part of me is delighted by the attitude of the team in the game; the other part concerned with the defending! Sounds like a few players had a cracking game and it was nice to see Richy back in the goals and Sigs performing. Let’s hope DCL hasn’t picked up too much of a knock.

I still think we should be focusing on finishing as high in the league as possible as it’ll be tricky to attract top players through winning any silverware with the teams still involved. We can but dream though.

What would you prefer as a target for the season: Europe place or a cup?

I know the promise of European football is how you attract better players but I’m also wary that our squad has not been good enough in the past to cope with both. Maybe the goal this year should be neither.

1.) 17 Dec 2020 21:53:08
European football means we will have finished in the top six and that’s progress, so I’d take that.

2.) 17 Dec 2020 23:18:07
Also possible through cups and if top 6 win cups pushing European places to 6-8th (unless I’ve misunderstood) .

You could say just having a solid team and players putting in a shift would be progress based on the last few years. I’d be quite happy to take that at the moment!

3.) 18 Dec 2020 08:10:16
I’d take a cup win, I missed the glory days of the 80’s so the 95’ cup is still the only trophy I’ve known being an Everton fan. It’s been far too long.

4.) 18 Dec 2020 19:31:54
66 was a good side gibbo, just joined up as an apprentice, 3 days inside, celebrated a bit to much, Sgt misunderstood me. LOL.

21-22 points to safety. that’s 7-8 wins out of 26 games - surely that’s possible?

Could even have a good cup run thrown in for good measure!

We were lucky in the end.

First proper test this season and we got through by the skin of our teeth (and some dodgy decisions going in our favour) . Still 9-10 wins from safety.

1.) 17 Oct 2020 15:28:16
Dodgy decisions is a bit of an understatement 🤣.

The offside is only annoying because of where it happens in the game, but they should remove the lines they are not needed.

As for pickford you got away with one, richarlison tackle made me sick.

Overall you played well and competed and lady luck shone on you today. on to the next.

2.) 17 Oct 2020 15:56:25
WYred - Robertson got away with one, his kicking out at Allan should have earned a red, however he roles around on the floor for so long they didn’t get VAR to look at it.

We were fortunate with some of the decisions which makes a pleasant change as usually they’d have all gone against us.

3.) 17 Oct 2020 16:12:56
I didn't see it 😉

He got away with it though as it wasn't clear and him being pushed helped his case as he could argue the momentum took him into your player. It was petulant though.

But you can't talk about players rolling around richarlison and James are still rolling around now apparently 🤣.

4.) 17 Oct 2020 16:30:26
U don’t mention Robertson’s bad tackle or that cameras caught Mane lash out at Mina when he was already on a yellow seconds before Richarlison’s deserved red.
U guys targeted James and Van Dyke escaped booking twice in first couple of minutes.

5.) 17 Oct 2020 16:57:57
Gotta be honest here. van dijk was throwing himself about before he got injured.2 bad tackles on James and then DCL. no booking and then he was on the receiving end. Bad tackle, I agree, but I have no sympathy for him.

6.) 17 Oct 2020 16:55:22
Just another red who can't see a balanced view of the game.
If you're a Red and feel hard done by in this game then you will never understand a good game of football.
We have dropped points there and had the better of the missed chances.
You on paper were the better side.

7.) 17 Oct 2020 17:38:36
And now they are all moaning about VAR! Didn’t here then bleating last season when VAR decisions went for them! Typical bitter reds!

8.) 17 Oct 2020 20:00:16
as they say the big decisions go to the top of the table team. pickford lucky. anyone else think the var tram lines look dodgy, possible derailment if they were on a railway. if they are straight with edge of area he is off side. open your eyes klipperty.

9.) 17 Oct 2020 23:08:23
They are now lodging a complaint fir 2 decisions! Only LFC would have the arrogance to try to change a match after it’s finished! They weren’t appealing against VAR last season when it Ed in their favour!
Talk about spitting dummy out of the pram!
BAD LOSERS! No sorry drawers!

10.) 18 Oct 2020 00:32:34
Completely agree with this and Smit comment . absolutely bang on, talking of which they will be 'banging on about the pickford incident and VAR for the next fortnight' credit were credits due they deserved to win the league last season but only there mob could moan about the outcome of that result today. Robertson should have been sent off imo. Could say both sides were unlucky not to win therefore the draw was a fair result. To the red lot l, grow a set of balls and crack on/ wind ya neck in.

Now that Brands has managed to shift some of the deadwood on large wages, how is our FFP situation looking Ed? We still massively in trouble or are things starting to look better?

BR2020-21

{Ed002's Note - Everton will still have issues to address.}

1.) 08 Oct 2020 09:58:59
I’d imagine things will look better at the end of the season when numerous contracts are up and we can hopefully sell 1-2 others in January or the summer.

2.) 08 Oct 2020 12:19:56
Champions League qualification will help as well as prize money with being Champions, plus the money from both Wembley finals. Might have spare money left over to pay for Messi next year!

He hasn’t featured much so could be lazy journalism or genuinely not in Carlo’s plans. I don’t think Ali will happen. If it’s anything like Summer, key positions such as RB and ST will be reinforced; let’s hope we can stay high in the table to attract some decent players!

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Besic, Bernard, Tosun or Bolasie leave this window. Let’s see what magic Brands can deliver.

To be fair, he was being hacked at and most likely not fully recovered from mid-week injury. More believable that he just aggravated it.

I would have thought this was a Brands signing given his age and his lower profile in the game. Hopefully, he’ll be another unearthed gem who can play alongside Holgate or Keane and provide CA with options.

Really starting to worry that we are not going to be able to shift several deadwood players. I think we may have to let some players go for much less than we’d hope to bring the wages down. Hopefully, we won’t be spending a fortune on Godfrey’s wages.

You’re right Ed, we should be aiming to offload those key ring merchandise and fidget spinners the kids love.

I’m with Guernsey on this one. Still think we need a striker and centre back though can’t complain with the business for Alan, Rodriguez and hopefully Dacoure (announce Wednesday? Thursday? Before October? ) .

Now to see who brands can shift out on loan/ sell to sort out wage budget.

Why stick to one when we could have a few things named after players?

Mark Pembridge Pick-n-Mix stand
Peter Beagrie Bog
Tony Cottee Club Shop
John Ebbrell End
Scott Gemmil Gate
Don Hutchinson Home Dressing Room
Ibrahima Bakayoko Bar
Danny Cadamarteri Crossbar
Pat Nevin Net
Terry Phelen Fence
Preki Pint Glass
Ratcliff Railway
Sheedy Steps
Unsworth Unisex Toilets
Alessandro Pistone Pitch-side Mic
Dixie Dean Dugout
Vinny Samways Scoreboard
Gareth Farrelly flood lights

Why stop at one or two? We could name the whole sight and charge players for the pleasure.

BR2020-21

{Ed001's Note - surely the toilets should be named after Hutchinson? Considering his tendency to flop his dick out at every opportunity and teabag old ladies on flights etc while drunk. Unless you have a strip club in the stadium??}

You’re right there Woburn; no point looking at other results going on our favour of the actual games we play in aren’t!

Interesting read Ed though I though it was a little heavy to suggest DCL kicked AA in the back of the head. I’d disagree it would have been a red due to position of keeper and cover that came in behind but I don’t think it was a penalty to be honest. That’s the luck of the derby - it’s gone against us in the past as it has you.

You’re right that Everton could only play what was in front of them and the injuries left your side heavily depleted. Once Henderson went off, it really looked like we could win.

I’ve never rated Crooks. What is the point of picking Pickford to spend 2/ 3 of his section not about him? Easily could have mentioned his save against Henderson or Salah when 1-0 and the fact he kept a clean sheet but opted not to.

Agree it’s lazy journalism. If you don’t want to pick him on merit of his performance, pick someone else. Only looked at this weeks article as it had an Everton shirt on it. Reminded me why I stopped reading his tripe long ago.

I read all this and thought two things:

1. Simulation is a form of cheating. Whether it be Salah, Richarlison or anyone who goes down to manipulate decisions from the officials. Sadly, it’s part of the everyday game nowadays. Didn’t Rashford or someone recently talk about being coached how to do it? It’s part and parcel or the game - not one I agree with but it’s there unfortunately.

2. Religion has nothing to do with it.
