So I watched the after match interview with Frank and he said he picked iwobi because he'd been so good in training. Something we had all mentioned when Rafa kept picking him. A few of us had watched some of the Everton players say he was the most skillful player in our team and I saw 1 or 2 say he was the fastest.

Frank said he had a chat with him before the game and told him he believed in him and had confidence in him. And it seems to have worked. Maybe it made him believe in himself.

Now this isn't fact just my opinion, but I can't see Rafa doing that.

Now iwobi has to keep it up every game but if he plays like that from now on he'll add to the managers headache for choosing players upfront.

I agree Chris some players need the gentler side of coaching and I don't think the previous manager had that in his locker so to speak.

I know neither man but just get the feeling Frank would be more personable and encouraging with the players whereas I’d imagine Rafa less so.

Both demand the best from players but go about it in different ways.

Early days I know but just get a good feeling with Frank - he talks sense, likes a laugh, seems to encourage players in a manner they want, is animated on the touchline and it looks and sounds like he realises what part the fans have to play.

Problem is when players work hard in training but keep playing terribly in the matches. Fair play to Iwobi he was great yesterday.

But as for him being the fastest, that’s surely got to be a joke? I’ve seen him knock the ball past Vestergaard with a 5 yard head start and get beat to the ball. Must be an inside joke because I genuinely haven’t seen an attacking player this physically slow at the club since Leon Osman.

Iwobi’s biggest problem is that his brain and legs are not working in tandem. It always appears as though his feet have already decided what they are going to do, while his brain is still thinking about it. If he ever gets the two working together then we could have one hell of a player.

Yes, but Leon had very fast feet and a football brain.

I've always thought that confidence plays a big role in football and it's good to see Frank and his team are building individuals and the teams confidence levels up

I do think though that the player's need to look at themselves and be more positive in their approach. All the really great players, great teams have a drive, a passion to improve and be the best. Look at the likes of Ronaldo, of Messi, of Rooney, of Lampard even. It wasn't just talent that made them great. It was belief in themselves and a burning desire/ ambition to improve themselves. It was simply NSNO being put into effect

I see a similar trait in Gordon. He's not waited for the manager to put his arms around him. He's just gone out every game to do his best and to demonstrate that he is good enough

I hope Frank and his team improve the confidence of the whole team but they, the team, need to take some responsibility themselves.

Swan, I just found the clip online it's on Everton's YouTube channel. The players didn't say he was the fastest but said he was up there. They were dimi, doucoure and Townsend. I don't think they were joking. You'll be able to search for the skillful one as well. Just trying to make the point that it seems there is a player there he's just not been able to do it on match day for whatever reason and hopefully Frank can change that. I think having a manager that has English as his first language will be a big help too.

Just need a yard in football. When players talk about fast, they are not talking 10-15 yards. Give and go remember that? How many of us remember our playing/ coaching days. I believe I was a crap footballer (at my level) but I got in teams. Fitness, get there first, and don't mess about, that's what was hammered into me. In some respects Lampard and his Dad are from that school.
