The fact Rafa went to China for the cash would worry me he would return to the toon.
He is loved in Newcastle and only left because they wouldn't give him cash to spend.
I would put him a firm favourite for the job - unfortunately he now has a much better chance of silverware and a ridiculous contract offer I'm sure if he were to return
Hi hope he stays - think him and his family are settled but I'm sure Saudi owners will already know who there manager will be and we will find out in next 2-3 days
Hoping this is not a repeat of Carlo but I fear it will be - proven manager popular with the fans and buckets of money to spend.

Not sure why everyone assumes Newcastle can spend unlimited amounts of money on either transfers or wages. Yes because Ashley has not spent much they will have a reasonable amount to spend but they are still limited by FFP rules just like Moshiri. Can't see Rafa going to Newcastle, they are in a mess and it will take a few seasons for any manager to improve them.

{Ed002's Note - They can request agreement to initially spend more initially as a new owner is coming in (as all clubs can) but they have to work within FFP.}

Thanks Ed002. What do you think about the Newcastle situation. Is it good or bad for the sport in general?

{Ed002's Note - The previous owner has left them in a very strong position financially and the only real issue is related to one of the partners in the consortium. As long as the Saudi state don't have any direct influence the situation is fine. They need to figure out a plan going forward that really has to start with appointing a Director of Football (and they are well on the way to doing that but they lost out on their first choice from their previous attempt to buy the club) and he will need to define the structure and look to recruit people in to the correct roles - and that will at some point mean a new manager - previously they were looking at Rafa Benitez amongst others). What they don't want to do is simply appoint a manager and expect him to get on with it. And they don't need a "superagent" offering advice and players.}

Whilst it’s exciting as a fan when a takeover happens it’s not necessarily a route to success as we’ve found out.
Many issues along the way, recruiting right manager, right players, taking appropriate advice as well as staying within ffp.

I’m sure we were the same when moshiri took over thinking we could sign everyone, but do find it funny Newcastle linked with mbappe, haaland, Kane etc.

Not trying to be disrespectful but why would any of those players want to go there? No European football and not challenging top end of league - same as us when we thought we could sign world class players.

Going to be several seasons before Newcastle reap the benefits of the takeover but only if they invest wisely.

Not sure spending £200m+ on players and still being mid table like we did will keep ffp on side for them for a long period. If they learn from some of our mistakes they could do well, but only time will tell.

He didn't go to China for the money Sobs. There's an interview somewhere where he explains he went to China as he didn't have any other viable offers at the time. Newcastle weren't going to give him what he needed to compete and he wanted to stay in work so off he went.

It's going to be tough for Newcastle and especially their fans. I just can't see this one being the solution for them. I think the fans will have very different expectations to what will actually happen. It will take a good few yrs for this to work. Yrs ago they could've bought the world in 1 window and go for the league the next season. Its just going to take a lot longer these days and ffp will enter the equation soon enough for them in the coming yrs. I just can't see anything other than its for someones benefit rather than a dream start for the fans.

Was that a little dig towards us ed02? ?.

{Ed002's Note - Of course not - Everton has an owner putting in £200M per window according to the Everton fans.}

If the Chairman of PFF is first in line to the Saudi Throne and thus second in command of the Saudi State just how on this Earth is the State not having any direct influence.

{Ed002's Note - You are just losing the plot over this I am afraid.}

Agree their biggest problem GingerDan is trying not to over spending on players required to challenge the top 6.
Everyone knows they have money so all the quality players are going to want a sizeable chunk to brave the near baltic conditions of Newcastle and their project.

Newcastle (and others for that matter) are currently under the Prem fair play rules, in a much better position than our (I think) approx 110 percent over profit loss allowance. I would not expect any outlays before next summer on the player front.

Fact we have one of the richest men in the World involved with Everton (huge backing with his own personal fortune and also on board Politically with probably the second most powerful man on Earth) , Yet still has to abide by Prem Fair Play rules. It is what it is.
