What does Marcel Brands actually do to get paid a shed full of money?

He recruits very expensive players who get paid a shed full of money for doing very little in return.

Completely revamped the academy too, but don't let that get in the way of your narrative.

What has he done to the academy? How many players do you expect will be coming into the first team this season?

Not sure what you know about Academy football, but last time I checked it takes a fair few years for changes to have an impact on the first team. Only time will tell on whether the changes have been good!

6 of the 11 starters for the U23’s were under 18, all 11 under 20. More training with the first team and involved in match day squads. Better pathways with loans. No more Penningtons. that's with working with a Youth Transfer ban for 18 or 24 months. Short-sighted to think that its all about ‘who’s coming in to the first team’ this season. Its a process.

It’s one thing to see a signing not turn out to be right and another to play him every week. I’d sooner dig out the managers than the DoF.

As for what does he do? Well I’d leave that answer to the ones who elected him to the board. Surely they know more than we do.

Look we originally tried to buy our way into top six and that didn’t work. Not sure any of that was to do with Brands. Now we are trying to bring in young hungry players with potential, while developing our youth system. Brands heavily involved in this I believe.
Hugo is correct we have a very strong crop of talented u18 players coming through. Who knows by the time the new stadium is complete a few of them may even be playing there.

Things are going well on the pitch so who shall we dig out for criticism this week? 😂 looks like it's Brand's turn then eh 🙄
Why can't we just be happy with things for just one day?

{Ed025's Note - well said BP..

If you actually see the signings he's made, he's done a fantastic job. Ricky, Allan, Digne, Dacoure, Gbamin, Godfrey, Mina, Gomes have all been or potential to be good signings.

Gomes and gbamin have had unlucky injuries and would have contributed much more if fit.

A couple of others like Kean, who clearly is a talented boy but with his head somewhere else and will still command a fee, Iwobi who is starting this season to show what he can do, are young still with potential.

Braithwaite looks like a future CB for us, and I'm excited by Nkoukou.

The bad have been minor, Delph was cheap, lossl was the wrong back up.

His other loans were good, Zouma, Olson and Sidebe all came in and performed good.

James has given us more column inches and publicity than any players we've had before, good or bad but most would say that the complaint for him was we needed him on the pitch more than underperformed.

So it ain't too bad. When given money, he does deliver. The amount of rubbish before him is what is the legacy that is a rope around the neck.

As for the youth, you are talking at least another 5 to 10 years to see the long term effects. he's changing a culture in the youth set up and that also means how we recruit young players. As an example we signed a youngster called Calvert Lewin 5 years ago. He was 18. So you can imagine players coming in at 10, 11, 12, etc they won't be ready for a long time.

For me the board just need to trust him 100% and just support him.

In a way I fear some at the club didn't have the patience for the brands way, but have maybe realised a little late that it's a viable way.
Moyes never got every signing right and bought some real duds, to blame brands for our mess is a bit harsh, we've had a manager merry-go-round and rafa for all the stick he gets, actually seams intent on proving something here and making a go of it.

You've been here 3 years why isn't our 1st team full of Young Rooneys and Ronaldos?
Wow Lol.

Its all about agendas with some fans. Once they have it out for a player/ manager/ DoF, that's it. Nothing but hate. Take Delph. Played well when he came on against Leeds, but I’ve seen more comments about his Instagram story praising the welcome he got from Leeds fans than his performance, and yet nothing was said when Walcott did the exact same thing the week before? Baffling.
