Are Everton really badly run financially? I say this because when you hear about the likes of Chelsea, City, Liverpool offering (rumoured) huge sums for players and we are scrabbling about in the undergrowth, it does make me wonder.

{Ed002's Note - Everton have a lower income than those sides.}

I think we really need to be realistic here. As Ed says, those clubs make so much more than us, they can then afford to pay more (both in fees and wages) under ffp guidelines.

Hopefully the new stadium boosts our income and closes the gap but its a long game to get to those heights (if we ever do) .

We are paying the price for wasting hundreds of millions in the Walsh era.

{Ed025's Note - moshiri was new at the game BP and took advice from some very shady characters mate, lets hope he has learnt his lesson and can get us back on a sound financial footing, it will obviously have a short term impact on transfers but we will just have to bite the bullet im afraid..

Spot in ed025
Also with the new stadium on its way will bring more income an help the ffp issue l. Also ushminov poking his nose in something is going on hopefully it a positive for us.

{Ed025's Note - yeah callum we are going through a period of augmentation and its all about the future, lets just hope we are all around to see it come to fruition mate..

Definitely, ed025. It looks as though we are addressing the ffp issues this season and it something that needs sorting. I don't mind the club being frugal, as long as the players brought in for cheap are good enough to get into the squad. There's a good few players with their contract near to expiring so we will save a few quid in the end. Hopefully, the mistakes made when Moshiri first arrived won't be repeated.

{Ed025's Note - lets hope not BP mate..

When we were successful under Moyes, we did not shell out 30 or 40 million on every player we bought. I think, and hope, that we are learning from the mistakes of the last few seasons. Initially, getting rid of the dead wood and trimming the wage bill is the right approach, and this is going well. It will also free up budget for more signings. Nothing wrong with being cautious. No one’s expecting us to win the league, but we can be competitive with a balance of hard work, which should come with Rafa in charge, and quality on the ball. Think we forget that we already have some real quality in the squad, and focus on those who aren’t so great (Eg Iwobi) . I’m quietly confident that we’re heading in the right direction.

We weren't successful under Moyes. We didn't win anything, and the division was also less competitive. We also signed plenty of terrible players, just didn't cost us as much.

Have to agree with EFCONE, I don't think we were successful under DM because we never won a thing under him. He did quite well with some signings but he also bought some terrible players. Just treading water in the premier league isn't enough, for me at least, I want to see us aim a lot higher. It might take a while but we've been, by and large, patient since 1995 for silverware, another year or two while we regroup as a club isn't too much to ask for.

Qualifying for the champions league on a shoestring would be seen by most as a success. Moyes’ flops didn’t cost 30 million. We will have to build towards success in a very competitive league.

Maybe so, JB, but qualifying once out of 11 years doesn't sound as impressive mate.
He steadied the ship and competed above our weight, no doubting that, but it's a bit of a stretch to suggest we were successful.

We qualified for the qualifying stage of the CL. However, Moyes was as always too cautious. Moyes done a great job at steadying the ship. And there it stayed for 11 years.

Hes done a decent job at West ham and may have learnt from past mistakes. However, he's not a winner.

As for us, we need to become self sustaining, or UEFA and the EPL need to give their heads a wobble and let chairmen invest their money into clubs that is in line with today's prices for players.

Stop mortgaging the clubs to pay for it and have it as investment with a limited return or allow 0% loans from owners that is in line with their disposable expenditure. Or allow them to have inflated sponsorship with no financial return.

The point being, there is a very small amount of clubs that have gone to the wall because of investment. Let them invest.

How could we forget him, BM! Sadly enough, we signed plenty more that we're worse.

Moyes had 22 shots at winning a cup with at the time a decent team. His overcautious approach meant we were never even close to winning a cup.
Hardly successful.
