Anyone else think we need to remove Unsworth from the Under 23's?

He is more focused on winning the league than actually developing young players. He was regularly using out of contract players just because they were more developed, as opposed to players actually still at the club. He’s also likely the reason Broadhead has been given a new contract.

He’s using the Under 23’s to boost his chances of getting a managerial position somewhere else, not to develop our young players.

I don’t follow the under 23s but thought we had a decent set up particularly with the likes of Onyango, Tyrer and Simms.
Also it usually gets widely reported that brands follows them closely so surprised he let's that happen.
I will admit I’ve been disappointed that the under 23s have not been given a chance when many of our first team have been so poor.

Couldn't agree more. Lauded the fact we won the league rather than getting the team playing like the 1st team.

{Ed0666's Note - what’s the barometer for any job? Success right? So you can’t blame Unsworth for wanting to win the league ahead of anything else.

I can’t blame him for wanting to win things, I can blame him for not using our players. Instead using players like Harry Charsley and Matthew Pennington, one wasn’t even signed to us anymore and the other was 25 and had no future. Instead of actually playing and developing the players who we want to bring through.

Success at top level is trophies. Success at youth level should be based on how many players make it from the academy to the first team, or at least to be sold for decent money to then have decent careers.

Not sure it’s that straight forward as players get sent out on loan for experience, Simms being a good example. Currently have a few U18s playing in U23s as well so their is development.
However I do agree that there do not appear to be to many making it to the first team. I also believe that it is important for the U23 players to be lplaying to a formation that mirrors the first team, so that they could step up if and when needed.
