DCL playing well tonight, well done lad.

Shame Everton can't play San Marino every week isn't it! Then we could just be delighted with him bagging a couple of sitters and not worry about the ones he missed!

England don’t bother me but they need a better manager.

Honestly ToffeeDavey the criticism DCL has started to get on this page is astonishing. All strikers miss chances, Salah couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo at the moment. We have the striker with the most goals from Open play in the entire league, yet he still gets grief - despite the fact he is clearly still improving.

He is one of ours for goodness sake, chill out, can’t understand some of this negativity this young lad gets.

The fact that he's our player doesn't mean we can't have an opinion on him 🤣. My opinion is that at this stage he is overrated. He is a mid table striker in a mid table team.

Also "this young lad"? He's a 24 year old man.

You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, but like I said, more goals from Open play than anyone else while playing for a 'mid table' side doesn't sound that terrible to me. That's my opinion. I'm sure you have a list of preferred Strikers we could have too?

Also worth noting only Cottee, Yakubu, Kanchelskis and Lukaku have ever score more goals in a league season than DCL has this season. If he gets 2 more that list becomes just Lukaku.

Very good point Efcone. Also had that greedy bugger Sterling crossed a few more when he had the opportunity instead of tip toeing into the box, then DCL could of had his hatrick.

Don't think I've said he's terrible EFCONE but please do correct me if I'm wrong? Find your comparisons quite strange to be honest - for the majority of the Premier league era we have been average at best (and well below average in the 90s) . I thought the idea now was that we wanted to push to a position of challenging for Europe? If that is the case I'm not sure what the relevance is of him scoring more goals in a season than Tony Cottee or Kanchelskis did in very poor sides?

On the subject of progress, I am one that is on the fence with that at the moment but it is still very early days for ancelotti so hopefully it will be a success. Last season was a disaster, in the 3 years prior to that we finished 8th twice and 7th (with 61 points) . I think that is roughly where we will end up this year - so certainly progress from the last, disjointed season. Its a tough one to weigh up. I agree with the post above about centre back not being a priority and at times we look well organised but then the fact is we have conceded more than anyone else in the top 10. We've also scored less goals than anyone else in the top 10 so guess from that point of view we can be really pleased about game management etc getting us as high up the table as we are!

TD DCL has only really been playing as striker for the last two seasons his return is 15 and so far 19 in all comps. I actually think he's done okay. There is still room for improvement with his finishing but I can only see the lad getting better. As for being a midtable striker in a mid table team then considering that he has currently scored more goals in the PL than any striker in the top 4 then I disagree with that statement. For £1.5m he is probably Everton's best buy next to Coleman. I certainly wouldn't be looking to replace him in the near to mid term.

Fair enough TD I may have been a little grumpy this morning and taken my argument to the extreme. You never said he was terrible. Just find myself a little frustrated when I see negativity around players who I think give their all the club and for the most part are playing well in a very inconsistent team.

The prem era may not be the best era to gauge success against, but if you go back through our entire history very few players have scored 20 plus in a season and that was with more games. DCL could potentially come very close to that mark, and despite a few glaring misses recently still has one of the better conversion rates in the prem.

Just think when the lad gets 2 for his country albeit against a rubbish team we should be supportive not knock him down.

Yea fair enough mate - probably wasn't the time for highlighting my thoughts on his weaknesses. I'm possibly harsh on him too in the sense that he doesn't control how we play - we set up to nick almost every game 1-0 so it makes it more obvious when a big chance is missed and has a bigger cost than it would if we played attacking football and created plenty of chances against rubbish opposition. Great news on the ground, hopefully one day we'll have a team fit to play in such a magnificent venue 🙏.
