Eds, Fellow blues

what’s peoples your take on Gomes?

I get that he has had a bad injury but he seems miles away from the player we bought

Is it that the league has got quicker?

is he scared of getting clattered?

has the pressure got to him like it did in Barcelona?

Has the injury basically ended his career at the top level?

Seems really odd that a player can be this far away from form on the pitch but is clearly doing something right in training to get selected.

Yesterday in the first half he passed it 15 times either out of play or to the opposing player.

One thing that might be worth investing in at Everton is a decent sports physiologist that way we can work out if half the squad are are actually pants and just here for the cash.

{Ed025's Note - for me he has lost a yard of pace yorkie, add to that the fact that he needs decent players around him to be at his best and others to do his running means his effectiveness is stymied, especially as the ones we have at the moment just stroll around the gaff mate..

i feel he is getting uncalled slack for yesterday as he was played as a winger yes his form has not been great but you don't become a poor player over night and he will get back to where he was.

He actually wasn't that great in his first season, just that our existing weren't as good. As for the sports physiologist, it is a sports phsycologist that is required, most sides have one.

simple no pace. The only way he stops a player going passed him is to foul him. And that's if he can get near enough.

This is what continues to irritate me Ed25. Why the likes of Siggy, Iwobi and Gomes all play beats me. A squad may be able to accommodate one but not all three. With all their faults and youth I would play Gordon and Davies over any of these pitifully slow players.

{Ed025's Note - they certainlty cant do any worse mate..

Lost a yard of pace ED where their was none to lose in the first place.

{Ed025's Note - if he got any slower DFS he would come to a full stop mate.. :)

He was always deceptively quick, like Ozil. Watch him at Valencia and against Liverpool pre injury, he could run when he needed to. He’s a confidence player, he’s been quite open about how much the Barcelona move affected him and I think the injury has ruined him physically and mentally. He wasn’t doing too great before the injury either but it is what it is.

He’s a lovely fella and unlike other players, you do get the sense he tries his best every game but is too worried about losing the ball. No one can deny that the left side of our central midfield is a weak point, Doucoure and Allan have been great, Gomes, Sigurdsson and Delph have been below par this season, hopefully Gbamin comes back strong and sits in Allan’s position and Allan can drive forward a bit more.

I like Gomes but he should be unstoppable, he’s big, strong, really good on the ball when he’s confident. But he isn’t, so he’s just a passenger, seen a stat yesterday that he hasn’t had a shot on target since early 2019, that is insane.

{Ed0666's Note - i was in Budapest when you signed Gomes. In the hotel I was staying in I bumped into a guy associated with Barcelona and he told me that Barca were overjoyed to get rid of him because Gomes wasn’t any good. Every time I see Gomes play i remember that conversation and I’m sad to say the guy was right.

Has Gomes had a proper pre-season since he suffered that serious injury? Not sure if it would make too much difference but he's definitely not the same player he was when he first signed.

{Ed025's Note - he had definitely regressed BP, not having a pre season will not account for looking as though he is playing in divers boots mate.. :)

I'd give him a couple of weeks off when Gbamin is back, see if a rest sorts him out, Ed025. Maybe the comment above is nearer the mark, he might need some type of therapy as he's not come close to the player he was since returning from injury. Shame if his EFC career just peters out.

{Ed025's Note - i thought he was great for us before that injury BP, but im afraid with the current lot we have in our squad we cant afford passengers mate, i dont think he deserves his place to be honest but what are the alternatives?..

Me too, ed025 and I live in hope that he can rediscover that kind of form. He doesn't deserve a place but not much to choose from right now as you say mate but I don't think we should write him off completely just yet.
