Watching that game tonight we were a totally different Everton in this match as one poster said we were scared, continual back and side passes with Carlo going ape on the touchline, he will have seen enough to see what is required we had far too many average and below out there, get ready for some incomings in this window.

It's our midfield which is poor. Too old, too slow both in mind and legs, just not good enough. The build up is ponderous, back-passing or side-passing at best. When we have the ball we repeatedly give it away. We will constantly come up short against class teams unless we either get some of the injured back or recruit someone in the January window.

Spot on Mike, midfield to slow with no creativity.

To be honest. The timing of this game was perfect. It exposed our poor midfield right in time for the start of the January window.

And the only plus point is we now have a manager who can see this a mile off and will act on it.

Difficult to watch that wasnt it! Dreadful in possession and lacklustre without. Delph Davies and sigurdsson is never going to be good enough as a midfield 3 obviously but at least we have the window now open if there's a good signing available and if not we sit tight until summer when can reassess hopefully with gomes and Gbamin available.

{Ed025's Note - it was pretty dire davey, as you say the midfield needs an overhaul mate..

That performance was always coming. Once we're outclassed we resort to our default setting of panicking.
This will be overcome by training and discipline. We haven't just become a bad or good team in a game or so.
Carlo will hopefully iron it out of us. Yes as a squad we are not city but we're not a million miles away and the 2-1 reflects that.
Good training, coaching and discipline and this squad can mix it with anyone, we showed that even under Silva.

The loss of Bernard before the match must’ve scuppered the original plan and taken away some attacking threat!
Still an improvement on what would’ve happened earlier in the season under Silva.

Glad to see a couple of positive posts at the end of this thread. Come on guys, it was city away with our reserve midfield on. We were never going to boss it. I get the frustration though, I think Sig is just past it now. He's great when he has time in the ball but when he is closed down just panics and his movement on and off the ball is terrible.

When we have Gomes back his dribbling/ turns and passing should hopefully get the attack flowing more.

Come on Chris, we don't expect to Boss it but our midfield was pathetic by any standards. Any one of Davies, Delph or Sig would be OK with some creative midfielder but together they are crap. Of course we have Schneiderlin to come back which will make it worse. We have a lot of rebuilding to do in midfield and yes it will be better when the injured return but we need reinforcements in January.

Delph is okay. Davies is okay with the potential to get better. Gomez is decent but injured. Gbamin could be a good player for us but injured. Sneiderlin is a waste of space. Sigurdson has become a waste of talent. I don't think Delph a d Davies particularly works well as a combination and adding Sigurdson makes it worse. The midfield as a unit is scared and severely lacks creative values. A gutless midfield imo. We desperately need an overhaul of the midfield.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that mate..

I would agree the midfield needs an overhaul but Ancellotti can only utilise the hand he’s been dealt at the moment and I feel he made good with a tough situation!
Previously earlier in the season Silva would not have had a clue how to deal with the situation we have with injuries players have some belief and moving in the right direction and that game against City would’ve been a hammering!

Delph seemed to be the only one trying to pass forward last night. He also saved us when Pickford kept giving him hospital passes trying to play out from the back when City were pressing so high.

Siggy is definitely done though. Offers nothing and slows the play down.
