I hate the saying a selling club, show me any team in the world who isn't a selling club, and to say u can't have success selling players from your starting 11 is nonsense just ask Porto or athletico Madrid they sell stars all the time and are both successful clubs.

It’s not a recipe for success though is it. Just ask Southampton.

I think we would have done better over last 15 years if we kept Lukaku, Rooney, Stones, Arteta, Barmby, Gravison, Speed, Barmby, Ferguson

Big problem with Lukaku was we should have bought replacement prior to selling - maybe this is why Delph has been brought in?

Maybe not Jeffers mind 🤪.

It has the be handled correctly but it can be successful if u buy cheap sell for big profits and as long as that money is reinvested in the club then over time u can afford to keep the top players u have and add to them.

Agree. The problem with Everton though is that we are selling players that we want to keep.
At the minute we find it difficult to attract the top quality players (Pepe and Kane for example in this window) .
Therefore the top players we have somehow we need to keep.
Make money on Dowell, Lookman, Robinson, Schniderlon, JMac - but not Lakaku, Richarlison, Gueye, Digne etc.

Otherwise the buy cheap sell high ends up in the NUFC model.

The key is that when we sell we don’t leave ourselves vulnerable or impotent. Liverpool sold Coutinio and are arguably no worse off. In fact better. Man United sold Beckham, Ronaldo and still dominated the league.

Everyone sells and everyone sells players they’d sooner like to keep. The real difference is the correct replacement or system to work in their absence.

Exactly ace, look at athletico Madrid look at the forwards they have sold over the years they would have wanted to keep torres aguero costa but they sold them all for profit reinvested it wisely and continue to be a successful team.

johny, he's a first, completely agree over Athletico Madrid and their reinvestment policy, just wish we had their scouting set up and sometimes they will take a gamble on young players ie Aguero, keep up the good work xxxxx.

{Ed002's Note - Atletico and Everton cannot be compared - Everton is unable to buy many of the players that Spanish clubs do.}

Ed002, understand that, meant the quality of their scouting set up, the ability to spot young talent, not comparing the two clubs.

{Ed002's Note - The thing is different rules apply in different countries and that limites the scouting rather - those clubs at the peak of the scouting (like Ajax and Benfica for example) apply very different models but get similar success.}
