Tuchel and Ancelotti would probably not come and neither would be good for Everton. Please please please look for a manager who has a track record of doing what we need, i. e. getting a team into the top places in a good league over and above richer clubs: Nagelsmann, Gasperini, Fonseca, Favre. There is nobody working in this country who fits that bill. You'd have to worry about Marco Silva if he walked out of a club weeks after joining them, good manager though he is. Dyche has done a great job, but we need someone with more tactical nous. The other names being touted either have no experience of top level management at all or just do not have that track record. We got suckered with Martinez and again with Koeman because we didn't focus on this point. Nobody looked beyond the end of their nose and everyone was looking at the same old names, insisting on 'prem experience'. Look at the managers' actual CVs or it will happen again.

{Ed002's Note - So you don't thonk listing potential mangers where at least one doesn't speak English a problem. You need to be realistic.}

Point taken, Ed, but I believe a language is easier to learn than are the skills needed to be an excellent football manager and there are examples of managers who have been successful while learning a new language. I'm not saying any of these guys would come to Everton, but I think these are the types we should be going for rather than (a) even more unrealistic targets like Ancelotti and Tuchel or (b) managers who don't have a CV that demonstrates the qualities and skills we need.

{Ed002's Note - I wonder how Sean Dyche would look in an Everton tracksuit?}

I would be quite happy with Sean Dyche actually, Ed, but I would just like to see the club be more imaginative. I know we're not the most attractive club, but if Nice can get Favre and Leipzig can get Hasenhuttl, surely Everton can attract a very capable manager who could bring some longer-term vision to the club and get the team playing good football?

{Ed025's Note - why not mate..

The thing is, Ed, with the resources we've got, we should finish 7th. Who is in with a chance of getting us finishing higher than that? Coleman, Moyes, Allardyce, Howe - no. Benitez - no evidence to suggest he would. Dyche - possibly but doubt it. We need someone different to break that ceiling.

{Ed002's Note - What resources are these? The £200M the Everton fans expect Mr Moshiri to be pouring in to each window?}

Don't know why you guys on here are so dismissive of Dyche. People questioning his tactical ability. He's got some great results away from home already this season, and was giving City a game of it until a disputed penalty. I don't think people truly appreciate the job he's done at Burnley.

This is why English/ British managers struggle to get good jobs in the EPL - because people have a snobby view about their tactical acumen.

If he was called Dychez, and had just taken Sporting Gijon into a top half finish in La Liga, people would be salivating at the thought of getting him in, even over someone with extensive EPL experience.
