People getting all worried over McCarthy; I do not want him and I will be very annoyed if we get him, but I can tell you one thing, he is far better than Fellaini.

The man is undoubtedly the WORST defensive midfielder I have ever seen. People constantly call his work rate into question, which is unfair, because he almost always works hard, but he has no idea what he's doing. He runs around a lot, getting completely out of position. Is far too complacent on the ball and so gives it away all the time and is so inept at tackling it is cringeworthy. He just clatters into people. If we had actually bought Capoue (I don't care if he was a 'moyes target' or if we were never actually interested in him, he would have been perfect) we would probably have won at least two games. We could go forward and attack, knowing that he could mop it up if we gave it away, rather than being tentative and hesitant, scared we will concede if we shoot. If they offer anything over £20m for him, we should take it and make sure negotiations are quick so we have time to bring in a new midfielder and a real striker.

Would like to say that I said Fellaini was not worth the price tag being put on him a few weeks ago and AB1878 shot me down claiming (falsely) that I didn't go to the games so this is fairly contradictory. He's still a talented midfielder and we're a much better side with him so your comment was fairly harsh. i'd also like to know how many times you've seen capoue play to know we would've won at least two games.

Stef, he is better as a defensive midfielder, but that doesn't make him a good one. The toffee lady would probably be a better defensive mid. As a normal central midfielder, as he is, he is a good player, but we can't keep buying Wigan players. We'll become a laughing stock if we get another one.

Haz, I'm a big enough man to admit when I'm wrong. I still maintain that as an attacking midfielder/ second striker, he is worth the money, but in the role we're employing him, he is worth far less than we want, as you said. I genuinely believe we would be better without.

And It's impossible to put a precise number of games, but I've seen quite a lot of Toulouse games over the last two seasons and read countless reports and articles about him, as well as seeing his performances for Tottenham so far and can confidently say he has what we need, or at least one of the many things we need.
