Was Fellaini a £15.9m player when we signed him? Bluenose Will.

How do you mean? £15.9m purchase or £15.9m worth player?

He cost £15m but, at the time, was certainly not worth it. But times have changed since 2008.

The official club website reported on 2nd September 2008 "Club officials confirmed the deal in the early hours of Tuesday morning and Fellaini joins the Blues for an initial fee of 18.5 million euros (£15 million) that will rise throughout the deal, putting pen to paper on a five year deal at Goodison Park. "
Anyone know how much the fee has risen throughout the deal? I imagine it eats into the release clause fee being spoken about now. Anyone know how the renewed contract signed back in November 2011 might have affected any arrangements? I also imagine any sell on percentage with Standard Liege - if there is any such arrangement - would reduce the resulting funds for a replacement. Again, anyone know the details?

Just £15m I thought?

4.) 20 Jul 2013
It was about 15m, and your point is?

5.) 20 Jul 2013
Release clause is quite low. The one play like Felli suppose to be 40m.

I think his point was that when Fellaini came in, he probably wasnt worth the price we paid for him, but he's now worth a lot more therefore McCarthy probably is worth the price tag due to his potential to be a player worth 20m plus. But to be honest I don't really think fellaini's worth 15m even now and McCarthy seems to be very similar to Gibson. We need a pacey, attacking minded playmaker to play with Gibson instead IMO

I think the OP is saying was he worth it at the time of purchase or has he got better

8.) 20 Jul 2013
Blue Haz; 'But to be honest I don't really think fellaini's worth 15m even now'. Are you serious? someone doesn't go to many games.

AB1878- season ticket holder actually. And obviously an exaggeration as regards to price but if you look at how much he slows play down and his short passing when he plays that deep role is sometimes pretty poor. Also when we do play him behind the striker we're susceptible to the long ball too often without a plan B and were found out last season by a number of teams

10.) 21 Jul 2013
He's also prone to sulking in matches he's not fussed about where he's clearly not giving what he should. Not Everton for me and the money being said (23m) is above my valuation of the player. That was what I was trying to say but should've phrased it better:)

All this negative play was under moyes remember, give felli 6 months under roberto before chatting this crap

If felli was sold last christmas it would be 25mil all day, but the guy who assaulted shawcross, and moped around a bit like somebody had stole his toy after that is prob the reason nobody has been in for him. the reason martinez is looking at mc carthy is a combination on felli possibily leaving and gibsons (whos looked great) not being able to play a full season threw injury
