I know I previously stated that we should all know by now that we don't have the money for all these players that we are being linked with but do any of the Ed's know what kind of budget we do have without moving any players on? In other words could we buy Doucoure, Allan or Maksimovic 1,2 or all 3 of them without the need to sell?

Wages are the problem, we know we’re not going to be raising much money from sales certainly not to fund new players, I don’t know how serious we are regarding Allan and Dacoure are but that’s going to cost 50-60m now if you think of players we want to off load, we ain’t going to bring that in to fund it, so it’s getting wage bill down reducing squad size and taking a hit with losses on these players.

I think we will make 1 first team signing max or none at all. A bit depressing really. I've just accepted that most of our terrible over paid players will see out their contracts, after all they came here for the big pay day, not to play football. Will be a few years until they are all out.

It’s not their fault they’re overpaid. Would you reject a new contract that tripled your wages? We need to direct our frustrations at previous managers and scouts.
I seem to be in the minority of fans who think we’ll sign several players. We’ve already sold/ released Baines, Martina, Niasse, Schneiderlin, Stekelenburg - that’s a good chunk off the wage bill. Others will follow. We’re not the only team who need to be careful with finances.

Thanks Ed002. Like your thoughts Trueblue, I suppose I feel I’m in the same boat as you FatChris. I just can’t see any takers for the mercenaries that came to us. I’m ever optimistic we’ll do well under Carlos guidance with whatever we’ve got and if we can keep him in a few years we could do something special.

If you were Carlo and the window slams shut with zero signings, what would you think? Hasn't he always stated loud and clear that when he signed on he would be backed in the transfer market.
He didn't spend at Xmas and said that the market wasn't right and he was happy to wait to this summers window.
Surely a man like that (regardless of his wages) packs his bags and takes the next big job to come up in the coming weeks. He walks out claiming promises were broken and he was sold a pup.

I don't think for a second our club would make that mistake. I think we will get 2 loans and 1 buy. If we did screw up the opportunity of this coach, we really have the wrong people upstairs.

{Ed0666's Note - yes but when Carlo signed no one expected a worldwide health pandemic which is severely restricting expenditure.

Probably 1/4 of the salaries we will pay Ancelotti and his merry men over the next 4.5 yrs it’s just a great excuse for all the I told you so’s
Ancelotti didn’t join a team 2 days before Christmas in the relegation zone on a promise of sell to buy. When Italian and some English journalists said he would never come to Everton.

He’s also always talked about ambition and in recent interviews said we don’t have to sell to buy.
Yes FFP is an issue, but we must have already shifted 20mil of the wage, with probably more to come.

I've just read that Everton will make Doucoure one of their highest paid players. Sounds like we've learnt our lesson.
