Delph for a reported £8mil what’s everyone’s thoughts.

1.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 20:35:21
Take that all day long.

2.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 20:59:38
For 8m take that, not statement signing by any means but shrewd signing.

3.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:17:23
Not if he’s a replacement for Gueyre.

4.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:17:39
8m for an England international, bargain.

5.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:20:25
Good signing as long as he isn’t a replacement for Gueye.

6.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:33:54
Not happy myself, at 29 does not fit the age range Brands said he was looking for and if we give him a three year contract we will have another over 30 player soon. Also he hasn't played all that much as far as I can see, would rather play Davies and he is definitely not a replacement for Gueye.

7.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:38:35
£8m to sit on our bench instead of City's, weird signing I've got faith in what Silva and Brands are doing will of course divide some fans.

8.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:48:55
With you there mate.

9.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 21:57:11
Excellent business.

10.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 22:10:57
Correct. its happening.

11.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 22:55:02
Great price for a good player.

12.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 23:05:27
At that price a good buy although does pick up a few injuries.

13.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 23:12:50
Think he is going to be the short term replacement for Gueye sadly.

14.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 22:55:33
Sensible signing, regardless of the price.

15.) 12 Jul 2019
12 Jul 2019 23:24:53
Pepe, Malcolm, Costa, kean, . delph A player who had a good season 7 yrs ago Seriously. this club absolutely dumbfounds me at times.
Costa was too old and didn't fit into Marco and marcels "team ethics" yet Fabian delph does?!

A man who has had about 3 games in the last 4 yrs and we are going to accept his signing as "great business for 8 mil" and slate an attempt at Costa?

16.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 01:19:22
Paul 8 Million for Delph is a steal, he is the same age as Gaye, this guy will make a lot of people eat their words, you can quote me on that if we sign him.

It is looking like Gaye will be leaving, would prefer we kept him, but in the same breath, Delph will come in and do a job.

17.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 07:13:35
We do need more leaders in this squad and he is certainly a good leader so for 8 million I think it is shrewd business.
He played 11 games for the best team in Europe last season.

18.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 07:25:58
I think it's a terrible signing, must mean Gueye is going. Just shows that we're still a selling club and can't keep hold of our good players. Bad business.

19.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 07:53:34
Not for me backward step to old struggled to get in City team plenty better younger players out there for right price all players we linked with and we poss sign delph poor signing not good enough for us see it going be one of those poor windows for us again not happy at all.

20.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 07:55:04
Still a selling club! . did we sell when PSG came knocking last time? . no. does gueye want to leave? . yes. i'm sure if we offloaded all the deadwood you wouldn't be complaining. delph is a steal at 8 mill. jheez, some people need to get a grip.

21.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 07:59:54
A selling club really? It's a phrase I really hate. We are not a selling club, however like it or not there are much bigger clubs out there at this moment. If they come in for a player - and the player wants the move - why would we not sell? As for Delph for 8m, it isn't even a gamble at that price, so why wouldn't you take him?

22.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 08:03:48
I remember people saying the same thing about Gareth Barry and he was a great servant, its not a bad idea to sign experience once in a while. I think Delph could give us a coupke of years in the squad at least.

23.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 08:06:01
Do some of the people who post on here ever actually go to watch Everton?
Or live football at all for that matter.
Delph is not a statement signing. I don’t believe he will be the replacement for GG either, more an additional Centre mid for the squad.
Gomes, GG ( or replacement) , Tom D, Delph and maybe Morgan. We need that many.

Pep has chosen him for 33 EPL games in past 2 seasons. Granted a lot at LB but also in Centre mid.
Delph brings leadership, bite, a winning mentality and experience. All things our relatively young team is lacking.
It’s all about balance people and when Marcel and Marco start getting things wrong then we can complain - but everything has worked out so far so let’s trust them eh.

24.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 08:13:03
And I’m sorry but to compare Costa and Delph is embarrassing.
Marcel has never said he wouldn’t buy older players just that we wouldn’t spend fortunes on players with no resale value - I think Farhad can sleep easily for £8m!
Costa brings a whole load of issues - though part of me would love him IF he is still the player he was 2 seasons ago but Delph is a team player. Plays where he is asked and does a good professional job FOR THE TEAM.

Remember the moaning when Barry signed
And then the crying when he left

Or imagine Twitter when we signed Paul Power.

It’s about balance people.
It’s about knowing the character of people
And you don’t get that from 10 mins highlights on MOTD.

He’s a good solid signing.
There are plenty more to come so keep the moaning until the window closes.

25.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 08:20:07
Delph is a good signing at 8 mil he will add experience to are midfield I know at 29 some people say it's going against the age range brands and Silva said but they never said that they wouldn't sign older players just that the older player would have to be the right fit for club and at right price and I don't believe for a minute he will be signed as a replacement for gueye if he dose go to PSG witch I have my doubts about as I can't see PSG meeting are valuation of 35-40 million.

{Ed025's Note - i really like gueye david and he is very important to the team, but if a player wants out then thats just the way it is, we cant have a player who does not want to be here it just makes no sense mate, players will always come and go thats just the nature of the beast, we have to make sure that we get the best possible price for him and an adequate replacement

26.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 09:13:59
Excellent signing for that price. Better than Jimmy MC, Morgan and Besic - so immediately improves our squad. Adds valuable experience as well.

All accounts are that he is an excellent dressing room presence as well - from both Guardiola and Southgate. Look at how good Miller has been for Liverpool, and how good Barry was for us.

27.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 09:22:52
Solid signing for not a lot of money, no harm in having a couple of experienced heads in the squad. to say that if gueye goes we're a selling club is nonsense in my view - he won't be sold because we need the money but because he doesn't want to be here any more. And with all due respect FatChris I'd question your judgement of who our good players are to keep hold of anyway given that you think Kieran Dowell going leaves us light at centre half.

28.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 09:25:25
8 mil is a decent price. I just don't think he is a good player. Never seen him have good game for city. Maybe a few at villa but rather keep Jimmy mac than have delph. Just my opinion.

29.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 11:33:26
We are now using man city like we did man Utd. "Oh they'll bring a winning mentality and leadership"
Behave yourself!
It's a backward step yet again.
If gana wants to go then yes I agree let him go, but at least go and find a player that is either younger or if we insist on players at the end of their careers at least get one who isn't injury prone or a bit part player used to fill problem positions who never ever lived up to his expectations!

Sorry but, he's not going to be a Barry. Barry was and always has been a great player. What the ef has Fabian delph ever done to deserve this transfer?
Evertonians saying great business?
Basic and McCarthy are far better players. Davies and baningime are far better prospects.

30.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 13:00:51
Gana hasn't gone and Delph hasn't signed yet you are all going into melt down.
Crazy.

31.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 13:54:33
Toffee Davey if you actually read what I have written, I said that we 3 CBs isn't enough and we can't promote from the u23s. You make it sound as if I think it's a bad move allowing him to go out on season long loan. I was just making a point how much of a priority an additional CB comes in.

And if Gueye leaves we are still a selling club. The reason for selling your best players is irrelevant, whether for the club needing the money or because we can't match an offer from another club, it doesn't matter. If we mean to progress we shouldn't "sell" players from our starting 11.

If Gueye doesn't go or we bring in someone better then fine.

32.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 17:28:08
Like another has said, players like Power, then Harper, Sheedy, ex neighbours reserves, a crocked Reid, last pay Day Andy Gray, over the hill Gareth Barry, aging David Weir and Richard Gough, then you have the cannot get in their team so not good enough for Everton, how many said the same last season about Zouma, how many said Tierney and blasted when we got a Digni instead, me for one on that one.

If you look back in time, most of our players who have been a big success have either come from the lower leagues, or from a team they didn’t get a lot of game time for.

We had a few dodgy over the hill signings, but on a whole, the players we scratched our heads at would have been Cahill, Pienar, Baines, Jags, Arteta, Power, Harper, Southall, Richardson, list is endless.

But they all came in and did a job for Everton.

Delph is a team player and certainly a leader, something we need in this squad, for 8 Million, it is a no brainier for me.

33.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 17:56:31
He's had injury problems so I'm not over the moon with this one tbh. He's a utility player which is a bonus. He's not a player I want but we will see how it works out. It's certainly split the fans haha.

34.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 10:09:02
Ed I agree with a lot of what you said and gueye was such a great pro last year when PSG came in for him in January so wouldn't begrudge him his move to PSG but the price would have to right for us especially considering the price that some mediocre players are going for. Ed if geuye dose go who would like to see as a replacement me personally would go for Ibrahim sangare of Toulouse he's only 21 with bags of potential physically strong as well so makes signing of delph sound like a good piece if business and gives any replacement time to settle into the club and league.

{Ed025's Note - im still hoping that idrissa stays david so i wont speculate at this time mate..

35.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 21:00:56
Every club is a selling club, they all sell for the right price as does any business.
If we sell Gana so what, as long as it's for the right price.
Barca sold Neymar, nice sold Pogba, liverpool sold couthino, spurs sold Bale, Chelsea sold Hazard.
Clubs sell good players, it's all about selling them at the right time and at the right money, if you can't see that then you don't understand the modern day.

36.) 13 Jul 2019
13 Jul 2019 22:50:10
FatChris - no mate, my point was that Kieran Dowell is a creative midfielder and his departure has absolutely zero impact on our centre half situation.

37.) 14 Jul 2019
14 Jul 2019 22:21:22
imo delph for 8mil is a no brainer, the lad can play left back and do a job in the middle, all is good buying youthful players, but we neeed leaders too, people to get down and dirty when things get scrappy. have faith in brands marco and the backroom staff.
