So many posters are going on about how we can spend big in the summer because of the TV money. But won't every club in the EPL have big TV money also? We'll be competing with them for players. IMHO, players move clubs for one of four things: to win trophies, to play in the European completions (like the CL), for big wages, or to play regular first team football. The first two are not something - I hate to admit - that Everton have offered much in the past twenty years or more. The third is something that we can't do at the same level as other clubs at present. The fourth is our major selling point to players currently.
So why did so many players move to relegation-threatened NUFC or QPR during the recent window? Yes, those clubs' owners have taken a risk and paid biggish fees, but no doubt the players are on big wages. How will us being just one of the EPL clubs getting big money make us more likely to get quality players unless we secure European football and pay big wages? Likewise, if DM leaves, then the new manager will need something magical for us to compete with all of those other clubs that have similar income to us.

All valid points C. A. Jones and I understand where you are coming from. But it does look like we will, barring a major loss of form and losing the next 5 or 6 games, be in Europe next year. This should help in player recruitment come the summer. The only issue is the amount of wages we can pay. We'd all love to see the top players grace Goodison in our shirt but at what price? We can't jeopardise the stability of our club just to get in a top notch player. The tv deal next year will give us something to play with and I expect DM to sign a new contract at the end of the season.

We would only need to bring in players steadily.
1 big signing, like a Felli or Jelavic and a couple of unknowns/un-fancied, like peanuts or super Kev.
This is how Moyes has steadily increased squad numbers and quality. It's a good system that has been proven to work and can be done on a budget.
If you have the money to bring in 5 or 6 players at any one time, it can de-stabilise a team in the long run.

Benteke will cost us abt £15mill he will be worth double what villa paid for him. and aload of other clubs would go in for him could be worth a shout at a player plus cash for him. ryanfromleic.

Everton to go for three players in the summer fer, donavon and benteke

Why Donovan how old is he? He was good before but I think we have got to move on

15m for Benteke, 8m for Fer where do you think Bill will find this at the back of the couch

The ship has sailed for Donovan, if he was going to join he would have by now. Fer is touch and go, will he pass a stringent medical in the summer? If not then we are best to identify other targets for that position. Benteke will be expensive but worth it, a good old fashioned CF who knows where the net is. If we use the cash from next years tv deal then we could afford him, maybe the Belgian connection would go in our favour? He's the one I would like to see in the Royal blue kit

Not until the directors get a percentage of their investments back from the increased tv money. Don't hold your breath on a transfer budget it will be sell first before buy

Benteke will without doubt be a one season wonder. Mark my word he is pants. He unfortunately reminds me of Jelavic who I was never fully convinced me last season when he was scoring all the time and this season has proved why I was unconvinced. Everyone remember Jo too. All the same to me, looked good for a while then got found out

Benteke might not cost as much once Villa go down, but probably richer clubs would beat us, need to get a better option. Fer, big risk, could be better options than him as well. Donovan, if he still wants it, cheap squad player wouldn't be bad.
