I also highly doubt it. He won't come cheap and they have far more financial muscle than us.

This was actually in the Sunday people yesterday, how accurate it is I don't know because it WAS the the Sunday people. I'd like it to be true though, fee of around 8-9 million being reported which I'd like to think we could afford!.

Agree3 Disagree0

AB1878, they actually have debts that dwarf ours

But that doesn't stop them from spending more than we do! Everywhere is reporting that the deal for him to go there is practically done, anyway. Shame, he's an excellent player

Agree2 Disagree0

Hope so just checked him out as I knew nowt about him and looks a class act.

Agree2 Disagree0

Not sure if this means anything but they are reporting the same thing on the southampton site as well.

The rags are now reporting that Gareth Barry isn't signing I told yours and picking up on the rodwell and cleverley you heard it here first

Believable10 Unbelievable17

Didnt hear it first though, these names have been circling around since January!

Agree1 Disagree0

Just what I was thinking

Agree0 Disagree0

You know what if he doesn't I think he will offend E.F.C fans giving a 33 year old a chance to play in a top team on good money, Have also heard Barry is very money orientated which is a shame as he had a cracking season for us. Let's just hope this is just a rumour.

Surely Everton could get a lower league club to take Barry and them buy him for a very small fee.

Gael Kakuta is staying in a hotel in liverpool telling everyone he is here to sign for Everton

Believable5 Unbelievable16

Perhaps everyone he is telling should tell him not to bother

According to the Rags, Barry deal is up in the air because we are holding out on paying the Fee and neither City nor us are backing down. This could see him return to Villa or go to West Ham. We have offered the best deal but are baulking at the 2m fee when he is a free agent.

Believable11 Unbelievable7

I don't blame Everton for that he's 33 and not going to get any better, so to pay £2.5m fee and wages on top would be crazy.

Agree2 Disagree0

Also agree, don't think we should pay fee and wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

I posted about this situation a month ago and people were saying that I shouldn't talk rubbish. Well there you go. I think there we should just do what we have to and sign him. Ignore the fact we agreed on a fee after his contract was up. surely it cannot be enforceable? If he is a free agent. he is a free agent.

Agree0 Disagree0

People who don't wsnt to pay 2.5 for him wouldn't no footballing quallity if it smacked them in the face he is wort that all day long

Agree1 Disagree0

If the 2 million was in the contract when we got him on loan then we should pay. 2M if he has a season like last is not too bad.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm struggling to understand how man city can ask for money for a player who is no longer on there books! If Barry is a free agent what's to stop him just agreeing to out terms and signing? How can City stop him if he is a fee agent?

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely no-one outside the interested parties (the clubs, the players, the agents/representatives) knows what the agreement really was when the loan was made, so any stories in the media are either being leaked by them or are mere speculation. However, it does seem weird that a fee for a permanent signing might be part of the original loan arrangement even though the player is now actually out of contract with his former parent club. I'd have thought that sort of fee would have been if we'd permanently signed the player during the loan period - not afterwards.
I have two other thoughts:
(1) His family might want to move back down south; or
(2) He might want to do a "Tim Cahill" and play in the MLS for a few years - and his family might be happy to spend a few years over there.

Perhaps this 2 million is the percentage of his wages that City paid last year and a deal was put in place that if he went on to sign for us we would refund them the amount they contributed over the season?

I m struggling with people struggling to understand this! Man City agreed with Everton that we could have him on a season long loan last season with a view to us signing him this season, where if we do they are entitled to a back payment of 2 million. Simple if we signed a contract we have to pay the 2 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Everton may have paid a loan fee to citte this sounds more like a signing on fee don't be surprised if there are lumpy agents fees thrown in
